Howdy folks of the interwebs! Welcome back for another shenanigan infused journey into the mind of this particular Garbage Can Dood!Tonight's discussion is on the Zizian transpocalypse, Silicon Valley based, AI focused, vegan, homicidal death cult! And the attorney who represented the cult leader Jack "Zithlord" Lasota in criminal charges that Lasota would fake his death in 2022 to avoid those charges!!The Zithlord's attorney has some interest'n friends...some interest'n "Best Friends"! Notably, Process Church characters such as John Waters (infamous film director) & Boyd Rice! That same attorney has some interest'n political backers, such as National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter & other "Best Friends" in the Los Angeles region. One "Best Friend" that is at least tertiarily connected to the same agency as another political backer of that same attorney - was recently sentenced in unrelated charges in Ohio, described as a "serial killer of dogs".That "serial killer of dogs" was a poster child for the Process Church/"Best Friends Animal Society" in their pitbull lobby. Not only was his "no kill" animal shelters in both Ohio and later in California funded by "Best Friends" and his pitbulls were routinely provided by "Best Friends"/Process - even whilst ol boy was on the run from charges in Ohio for merc'n dogs - his "Best Friends" set him up with a new pitbull operation in Southern California! That is until the US Marshal's sting operation in LA in 2021 to arrest Steffan Baldwin/Finkelstein for Ohio charges, upon Baldwin's arrival back in Ohio for "serial killer of dogs" charges - his fingerprints were input into the national database. Baldwin's prints would me a match for the "#1 suspect" in a cold case disappearance of Maura Murray in New Hampshire in 2004. Murray just happened to be Baldwin/Finkelstein's exgirlfriend from West Point Academy, allegedly last seeing her in 2001.Anyhow, folks of the interwebs thank for join'n me to get a lil GCD! In this riveting episode with Juliette Watt, we get detailed about why every one of us needs to become more aware of compassion fatigue. This debilitating syndrome has spread as more and more of us are being asked to care for parents and children while maintaining demanding careers and trying to run a home. Compassion fatigue can be hard to recognize, and it's imperative we do, because it has a high correlation with both physical illness and suicidal ideation. In this episode you will learn: Signs you or someone you know may be experiencing compassion fatigue. The most dangerous point in the timeline of compassion fatigue. The differences between trauma and grief and how they co-occur with this syndrome. Steps you can take to reduce compassion fatigue. Tips for folks who aren't into meditation. Juliette Watt has been an ATP airplane pilot and Master Flight Instructor; a Playboy Bunny; a soap opera writer for ABC Television and a theater writer/performer. She has won two Writers Guild Awards and has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy. She also is an animal rights advocate who worked for Best Friends Animal Society for almost a decade. Juliette most recently added TEDx Fargo speaker to her extensive resume. Her current mission is twofold; to help people who are struggling with the debilitating and potentially lethal symptoms of Compassion Fatigue; the emotional and physical burden created by caring for others in distress or neglecting your own life-stress and guiding people to create the true life of their dreams. Peter Shankman is a serial entrepreneur, author, speaker, podcaster, and thought leader in marketing and public relations. Ever wanted to be quoted in a major news outlet as an authority or an expert in your space? Now, you can get valuable PR placements for free. In this conversation, we talked about Peter's free new online service, Source of Sources. Launched earlier this summer, SOS is already making waves in the world of public relations with over 22,000 subscribers. Much like its better-known earlier incarnation, HARO – which stands for Help a Reporter Out – Source of Sources is an email listserv designed to make it easier for journalists to find the sources they need, and for sources, such as brands, business owners, and thought leaders to get the publicity they seek. Up to three times a day, subscribers get an email with queries by journalists from various media outlets. If a journalist asks about a topic you know a lot about, simply reply directly with helpful information or feedback for a chance to be featured or quoted in the story. The only rule? Only reply to a journalist's query, or SOS, if you have something productive and relevant to add. If you respond with something unhelpful, you will be permanently removed from the list! No exceptions; no appeals. This is serious business. He's not messing around here! Peter Shankman is perhaps best known as the founder of HARO (Help a Reporter Out), an online service that worked the same ways as Source of Sources. Groundbreaking at the time and user-friendly, HARO bridged the gap between journalists and public brands seeking media coverage by allowing journalists to connect with industry experts and the public for feedback on issues related to their reporting. In 2010, HARO was sold to Vocus, which was subsequently acquired by Cision in 2014. Earlier this year, Cision folded the classic HARO into Connectively, a web-based tool. Shortly after, our guest, Peter Shankman revived HARO as Source of Sources, an incredible resource he provides to subscribers free of charge. A lifelong Manhattanite, marketing expert, and futurist, the New York Times called Peter Shankman “a rock star who knows everything about social media and then some.” He is a 5X best-selling author, and the author of Faster Than Normal: Turbocharge Your Focus, Productivity, and Success with the Secrets of the ADHD Brain. He also has a fantastic podcast about ADHD called The Faster than Normal podcast where he interviews psychologists and successful people from all fields who have ADHD. I highly recommend the book and the podcast is one of my favorites! In this episode, Peter Shankman and I spoke about Source of Sources, the current state of PR and news media in general, and how to become savvier consumers of information. We also discussed Mental Capital Consulting, a consultancy he co-founded with a psychologist in 2023 that helps companies attract, hire, and retain neurodiverse employees while helping companies to become neuro-inclusive. And, to top it all off we resolved a mysterious bone of contention about cold pizza. Peter assured us his new service, Source of Sources is free, but he says if you really feel like sending him a donation, you should send it to a charity such as Best Friends Animal Society or The NYC Mayor's Alliance for Animals. In part two of this episode of the Animal Control Report, hosts Ashley, Ashlee, and Daniel engage in a candid conversation with Temma Martin, a former Best Friends Animal Society employee, to discuss the "no kill" movement and its controversial impact on homeless pets. Temma brings her extensive experience to the table, offering her perspective on why "no kill" policies may not be the ultimate solution for animal welfare. The discussion breaks down the unintended consequences of the "no kill" philosophy, such as overcrowded shelters, compromised animal care, and the pressure placed on staff and resources. Temma and the hosts explore why this approach has created a significant divide in the animal welfare industry, highlighting the ethical and practical dilemmas faced by shelters striving to meet "no kill" standards. Tune in for a thought-provoking episode that challenges the idealistic view of "no kill" and prompts a reevaluation of what truly constitutes humane and effective animal welfare practices. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/animalcontrolreport/support
In this episode of the Animal Control Report, we discuss the intense and alarming situation surrounding the Danville Area Humane Society. Recently, the shelter had to close its doors due to security threats linked to its high euthanasia rates—80% for cats and 70% for dogs. Executive Director Paulette Dean explains that as an open admissions shelter, they accept all animals in need, which contributes to their high euthanasia rates. Despite an offer from Best Friends Animal Society to help them transition to a no-kill shelter, Dean and her team declined, prioritizing their mission to take in every animal. We'll explore the implications of this decision, the backlash from Best Friends Animal Society's "Danville Deserves Better" campaign, and the ensuing hate and threats directed at the shelter. We discuss the complexities of animal welfare, the challenges of managing open admissions shelters, and the ethical considerations in balancing animal care and community safety. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on the front lines of animal control. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/animalcontrolreport/support

Hymnson Chan talks his extensive stunt work, improvising with Larry David on "Curb Your Enthusiasm", and the time he threw himself in a wall during an audition! About Hymnson: Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Hymnson Chan's journey began in a city known for its rugged beauty and diverse culture. However, his formative years were spent in Quincy, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, where he navigated the challenges of growing up in a predominantly Irish-Catholic neighborhood. Raised by immigrant parents from Hong Kong, Hymnson inherited a rich tapestry of resilience and determination. Despite facing discrimination and hardship, Hymnson's parents instilled in him the values of empathy, humility, and faith, which he carried on into adulthood. Today, Hymnson is recognized as one of Hollywood's most sought-after stunt performers. His remarkable skills have been showcased in blockbuster hits, including Bullet Train, as well as Marvel's Avengers: Endgame, where his stunt work won him a SAG Award. No stranger to being on camera, Chan has been recognized for several appearances on the small screen, including I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Grey's Anatomy, Kidding, Shameless, Key & Peele, and Jane The Virgin, to name a few. He also recurred in Syfy's Underlings. Most recently, Chan had the pleasure of starring alongside Larry David as his latest nemesis on the final season of HBO's hit series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Beyond his work in front of the camera, Chan is a talented screenwriter and storyteller. He recently won the WeScreenplay TV Pilot Competition with his grounded Sci-Fi-Action pilot, “DAI LO,” inspired by his mother's immigrant experience and his own journey as a first-generation AAPI. His writing often delves into themes of identity, family, and social issues, aiming to empower marginalized communities and challenge stereotypes. In a world divided by differences, Chan hopes his work continues to break barriers, leaving a legacy of kindness, resilience, and boundless creativity behind. Outside his work in Hollywood, Chan actively supports charitable organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society, No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA), Angel City Pitbulls, and the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE). He believes in using his platform to amplify voices and create opportunities for underrepresented groups in the industry, a testament to his unwavering commitment to making a positive change. In his free time, Chan enjoys playing escape rooms with his wife, collecting sneakers, and cheering for Boston sports teams. He finds joy in exploring different cultures through travel and food, always seeking to broaden his horizons and connect with others on a deeper level. Learn more about your ad choices. We had a great conversation with comedian Mike GlazerOriginally from St. Louis, MO, Mike Glazer is an entertainment juggernaut with extensive credits including appearances at the 2023 NHL Awards, HBO's Night of Too Many Stars (earning an Emmy nomination), Comedy Central, and Food Network's Worst Cooks In America. Glazer's live shows, which consistently sell out, have been praised as "the most promising show in LA" by Rolling Stone and hailed as an "instant classic" by High Times magazine, who also recognized him as one of the "Most Influential People in Cannabis" in 2021. Mike Glazer's portfolio extends to high-profile events like the Outside Lands Festival, SXSW, and the immensely popular BuzzFeed series, High Guys, with over 100 million views. His comedic genius has shone on truTV's Billy on the Street and even at the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As if his impressive resume wasn't enough, Mike Glazer has shared a smoke session with the legendary Snoop Dogg, has cooked alongside Gordon Ramsay, attended culinary school, worked at Second City in Chicago, PA-ed for the Late Late Show upon arriving to LA, wore the Left Shark Super Bowl costume while being interviewed by John Mayer and clinched a gold medal as a roller hockey goalie with Team USA.Now, he's set to release his debut comedy special Life Rules! Mixtape Vol 1., alongside the release of his newest limited podcast series Life Rules! and a national tour to support (starting at SXSW's Sharpie event which he's hosting and making its way back to the Comedy Store in Los Angeles). With wild stories from all layers of his life (his grandfather worked for Al Capone!), Glazer is truly an enigma within the industry. His philanthropic passion is as strong as his devotion to comedy. Over the years he has raised money for the Missouri Wildlife Foundation, Best Friends Animal Society, the Downtown Women's Center in LA and helped coordinated a ‘letters to Santa' program with Second City Chicago which helped deliver the Christmas present requests of children less fortunate in the Chicago-area community. Most importantly, he is dedicated to normalizing the stigma behind mental health (especially in men), as he is a diagnosed Manic Bi-Polar and grew up with Schizophrenia in his immediate family. His additional hobbies include hockey, cooking, Al-Anon, sneakers, hip-hop, basketball, Eskrima (martial arts), bowling, weightlifting and hiking. He is currently Los Angeles-based.
Currently, shelters across the U.S. are overcrowded with dogs. But Holly Sizemore, the Chief Mission Officer for Best Friends Animal Society, says they are about to get inundated with cats and kittens as well. Now is the time to spay and neuter both indoor and all outdoor cats as females are currently in heat and will start producing offspring within the next couple of months. There are Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) programs across the country to help pay for the cost of these procedures. Sizemore says most pets in shelters are human causes, not because the animal is damaged in someway. Their adoption fees are much less expensive than buying from a breeder or pet store. In this conversation, Daniel and Ashlee discuss various topics related to animal welfare with Tawny Hammond, the director of No Kill Advancement at Best Friends Animal Society. They cover personal experiences with cruises, the goal of achieving no kill by 2025, the potential for language change in the industry, Tawny's role and the programs she oversees, the importance of access to care in underserved communities, and the challenges faced by animal shelters. The conversation highlights the need for collaboration and sustainable solutions to save more animal lives and improve the welfare of both animals and people. This conversation explores the challenges and shortcomings of the current animal shelter system and the need for a life-saving approach. The importance of communication, building relationships, and bridging the gap between different perspectives is emphasized. The conversation also delves into the need for change in the veterinary profession and the importance of advocating for better access to care. The discussion concludes with a call for continued dialogue and collaboration to create a better future for animals and humans alike.Takeaways The goal of achieving no kill by 2025 is an aspirational target set by Best Friends Animal Society to save more animal lives and reduce unnecessary euthanasia. Language in the animal welfare industry is a topic of discussion, with some advocating for a change in terminology to be more inclusive and less divisive. Access to care is a crucial aspect of animal welfare, particularly in underserved communities where there may be limited resources and veterinary services. Collaboration between government entities, nonprofits, and communities is essential in solving complex issues related to animal welfare and creating sustainable solutions. Animal shelters face challenges in managing the influx of animals and providing adequate care, highlighting the need for comprehensive programs and resources. The current animal shelter system is broken and in need of reform to ensure the well-being and safety of animals. Effective communication and relationship-building are crucial in creating a life-saving system for animals. The veterinary profession needs to undergo a transformation to provide better access to care and support for animals. Advocating for change in language and terminology can help create a more inclusive and supportive environment for animals and people.
