Joel Del Rosario enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005 because a girl asked him to. She left him with a Dear John letter while he was deployed to Iraq. Then an IED nearly killed him. His mother received an incorrect killed-in-action notification and believed her son was dead for 24 hours.   When Joel came to after the blast, shrapnel in his body and a traumatic brain injury that erased most of his memories, he was not relieved. He was angry that he survived. That disgust with his own reaction became the turning point. He chose ownership. Nobody forced him to enlist. That was his decision. I can't get away from it. The Camino de Santiago keeps tugging at me. I remember two truths from the Camino: you will get blisters and you will get unexpected kindness from strangers. I became intimately familiar with both. As to the blisters: wear proper boots, air out your feet every two hours, keep your socks dry, watch for hot spots. But, as careful as you are you'll likely get blisters - the badge of honor on long treks - so you can trade stories and  treatment solutions with other pilgrims, like liberal applications of Vick's Vapo-Rub. Who knew? As to the gifts of kindness, they show up when most needed and least expected: a cold bottle of water, a wooden bench with free fruit and juice, directions from a villager, or encouraging words offered in a time of uncertainty or doubt. Dann macht der Drummer einen Auftakt. Drei Akkorde. Bob Marley - Is this Love!? Und plötzlich ist die Straße voll.So fühlt sich Mindelo an.Die dritte Kapverden-Folge ist anders. Kein Wandern, keine Steilküste, keine Vulkankrater. São Vicente ist das genaue Gegenteil von Santo Antão - trocken, kompakt, urban. Und in Mindelo, der kleinen Hafenstadt, die mal als Kohletankstelle des Atlantiks die Welt versorgte, steckt so viel Musik und Geschichte, dass Michi kaum weiß, wo er anfangen soll.Der Flughafen trägt den Namen einer Sängerin, die barfuß auf Bühnen der Welt stand. Cesária Évora. Im Café Mindelo weht abends der Atlantik durch 20 offene Fenster und eine 18-jährige Gitarristin spielt Intoxication vom Kölner Reggae-Star Gentleman, den Michi persönlich kennt.Und wer einen Tag übrig hat, mietet sich ein kleines Auto und fährt einmal um die ganze Insel. Es dauert keine zwei Stunden. Dafürn gibt es den schönsten einsamen Strand der Kapverdischen Inseln. —

Also Leute, Realtalk: Ich, der arme Willi, hat diesmal so gar keine Zeit und Nerv für Podcast-Prosa, weshalb ich hier noch pflichtbewusst ein paar Zeilen Inhalt zusammenkleckse und dann gefälligst in Ruhe gelassen werden will. Die komplette Baywatch Crew war aus Versehen am Wochenende Boot fahren und natürlich war das alles wieder peinlich und chaotisch. Dann wurde sich wieder fürchterlich aufgeregt, weil Schmitt bei dem Thema Gesellschaftsspiele vollkommen frei dreht, seine Kollegen beschimpft und von seinen kriminellen Machenschaften im Bereich Warhammer und Magic erzählt.
