OpenBIM: Paving the Way in Romania with Stefan Constantinescu In this video, I chat with Stefan Constantinescu, who is in charge of BuildingSMART Romania and co-founded the BIMtech Association. Stefan shares his experience, and talks about what buildingSMART Romania does, and how it's changing the way buildings are made. BuildingSMART Romania is trying to get more people to use open Building Information Modelling (BIM) standards in Romania. They talk a lot about open BIM, Open Standards, and different tools like IFC, aiming to help everyone understand how to use them better in their work. Stefan also talks about the yearly BIMcon conference. This event brings experts from all around the world to share their stories and advice. BuildingSMART Romania also works on translating technical guidelines, called ISO standards, into Romanian, so more people can use them. Special occasion as I'm writing this on my father's 70th birthday! I'm on holidays in the South of France, running around to post this episode of the podcast slightly in advance compared to the Wednesday publishing day because there's a high chance tomorrow would be too difficult to publish online after celebrations planned tonight - and that's of course due to the fact the house I'm staying at doesn't have an internet connection, rather than any consequences of a potentially inebriated evening. For those who follow I also skipped the online release of the previous week's Ice Cream Sundae newsletter, I'll publish it in a few days instead. For those who wish to be up to date, the best way is to subscribe to the list and get it directly in your inbox! Great episode today! I had a fantastic catch up with my friend James Whatley aka Whatleydude a few weeks ago, w.e had a fun conversation and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed having the conversation. James is the Digital Director for Ogilvy & Mather in London, one of the largest advertising agencies in the world. He also co-hosts a weekly audio podcast called The Voicemail with Stefan Constantinescu, where the latest mobile technology news, and write an excellent weekly newsletter called "5 Things on Friday". We talk about those and a lot of his other projects and activities in the episode including some travels, arts, comic books, gaming, advertising, digital marketing and more. The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin. You know it as "the ee-fa." Old-timers might still call it the Berlin Radio Show. Stephen Schenck for some reason refers to it only by its cumbersome designation "I-F-A." But however you refer to it, one of the world's biggest electronics trade shows is coming very soon. And it's bringing a lot of smartphone, tablet, and smartwatch news with it. On today's show, we run down the most interesting of IFA rumors, from Samsung's mammoth Galaxy Note 4 to Sony's more ... Compact offerings. We'll also discuss what we're expecting from the likes of HTC and Microsoft, Huawei and ASUS, and about a billion other brands – and we'll kick everything off with a no-doubt contentious debate on the merits of all these smartwatches that just came out of the woodwork. Joining us on the show today is special guest Stefan Constantinescu of TabDump, who we're relying on for just the right amount of world-weary cynicism to keep our youthful enthusiasm in check. Round smartwatches, roundly terrifying TOS agreements, and roundtable smartphone discussion: 'round here, it doesn't take much more than that to get a mobile podcast together, and –assuming the Hangouts gods will it– we'll be proving it to you in less than four hours. On today's episode, we're returning to a new favorite in the segments list, plumbing the depths of the podcast inbox to let you know what phone you should buy. We'll also tell you who won last week's smartphone giveaway and surprise you with a new one, and we'll pass the mic over to guest Stefan Constantinescu so he can take a shift on the newsdesk, sharing the hottest tabs of the week from TabDump. And somewhere in there, we'll find the time to answer your listener mail as well. Because a) ya'll write pretty letters, and b) we're courteous like that. The "flagship killer" that demands that you "NEVER SETTLE" breaks cover. The pioneer of the modern mobile browser shares his story. And at long last, Microsoft and Nokia finally consummate their love. We could have a feature segment, but with news this hot, do we really need one? Not with a guest like Stefan Constantinescu of TabDump to bring some flavor (and profanity) to the proceedings, that's for sure. A word on the language of this episode: we've recently ditched the "Clean" content rating that's been with us from the start of the Weekly, trading it in for Apple's ominous "Explicit" tag that makes us sound like the hardest podcasters ever to come out of Detroit. This change was made for a variety of reasons, which we may explain in depth at a later date. Rest assured that it's not our intent to turn the podcast into a sailor bar: we'll still be keeping a close eye on our tongues, but we'll no longer be bleeping the occasional cuss. Be sure to let us know what you think of this change in the comments! All this, plus six of your best reader mail submissions await you on episode 093 of the Pocketnow Weekly! So fire up your favorite podcast app and get to downloading: the Flagship Killer is coming, and you know what that means. (Actually, do you? Because we're pretty confused about it.) Music The Pocketnow Weekly's transition music (the track used between its News and Feature segments on some episodes) is a track called "Radiation" from the talented Ali Spagnola. You may recognize the tune as one of the preloaded ringtones from your Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, or Nexus 4 - but it's a real song, from a real album. You can download that album, along with many others, at Ali's website here, or visit her YouTube page here! • Thanks for listening! Tune in again next week!
Here at Pocketnow, we like other tech sites. We share the same news space, we share a lot of editorial opinions, and we trade jokes and barbs on the Twitters, the Facebooks, and even in the godforsaken comments section. We're even starting to interact face-to-face with our foreign contemporaries in on-air venues like the Pocketnow VIP, but here at the Weekly, we thought: why let the video jocks have all the fun? Pocketnow's tech podcast deserves some love too, doesn't it? It took us 45 episodes to get there, but we're finally welcoming our first guest from outside of the Pocketnow team to the podcast. Joining us to usher in this new era in Weekly history is Stefan Constantinescu, former Nokia and Helio employee, current founder of Android Beat and contributor at Engadget, and forever globe-trotter and snarky Twitter personality. Stefan joins us in part because we like him, and in part because he was at this week's Jolla event and has stories to share from Helsinki! All that, plus the inimitable segue-crashing abilities of Taylor Martin, after the break. We've broken out the fine china and good silver and put the dust cover on the couch; the Pocketnow Weekly podcast is ready for its first guest.
