Steve Kean was a professional footballer, who know has more than two decades coaching experience including being assistant coach at Fulham and manager at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League. He's also coached/managed in Brunei, Singapore and Australia and currently is working training coaches for the Scottish Football Association.
Amidst record low attendances and waning interest among the Vuck fanbase, Dave is joined by returning guest and Melbourne Victory co-founder Tony Ising for a 'State of the Club' - and indeed 'State of the Game' - address. Dave reviews the unintentional comedy of the draw with CCM, and Tony outlines how the game ended up here, from Frank Lowy's demise to the Covid pandemic. Inevitably, the pair are drawn into an extended discussion on Australian football's favourite slanging match: promotion and relegation. Plus, there's Steve Kean's row with Popa, the return of the FVS confessional, and a preview of Victory's first encounter with Macarthur.
Melbourne Victory made swift changes to their coaching staff after their 7-0 drubbing at the hands of cross-town rivals Melbourne City. Grant Brebner has been replaced by his assistant Steve Kean for the interim while the club goes in search of a new manager
"We're finding new ways to lower the bar." Steve Kean is the new Melbourne Victory manager. Let that sink in for a moment. After a cumulative 13-0 defeat across two Melbourne derbies this season, Dave and Buds pick through the wreckage of the Grant Brebner era, and the condescending, insulting press conference he was forced to sit through while the head fruiterer announced his "removal". What on earth is going on at this club? And what should fans do to voice their anger? Thankfully, the Victory women have given us something to celebrate since the last pod. Plus, there's our first edition of the FVS confessional, an Alou Kuol update, and Dave bristles at comparisons between the A-League and the European Super League.
Another week, another capitulation for the Vuck. Dave and Buds are back to run the rule over a listless 2-0 loss away in Parramatta - a game marred by strange refereeing, facial lacerations, and botched overhead kicks. Does Brebs' new formation have potential? What is Steve Kean doing behind the scenes? And is it time to declare Rudy Gestede a bust? Plus, the pair look ahead to a run of home games, and what it might augur for Brebner's future in charge.

While chaos has unfolded around us Chelsea have quietly gone about getting some impressive business done, with Timo Werner seemingly on the way, leading us to ask the question; just how handsome is he?As the Premier League nears a return Southampton have looked at Ralph Hasenhuttl and decided “more of that please”, Roy Hodgson has been praising modern footballers and their responses to the current political situation, while Mike Ashley continues to be a silly sausage. Away from all that serious nonsense Marcus introduces us to his Fulham hooligan firm and a trip down the Time Tunnel reminds us of Steve Kean’s not-actually-that-brief reign of terror at Blackburn Rovers. Simpler, if still very weird times.
Gary Owen and Mark Pearson trudge through the snow for this week's predictions. And if a week's a long time in politics, it's an age in football. Big Sam gets sacked; Arsenal get Barca again in Europe; Man City go top; but then Tevez wants out; Man United replace City; and the World Cup may get played during the winter. That's before we've even got to this weeks fixtures! Will Man United Chelsea be fireworks or snoring? What will Spurs make of Blackpool and what about Blackburn v West Ham - will Steve Kean get off to a winner or will Grant be on his way out?
