Ian Pearson-Brown was brought up with Newcastle United in his blood. He was there for the club's remarkable rise up through the leagues - and has followed them, home and away, from the heyday of Kevin Keegan's time in charge to the turbulence of the Mike Ashley era. Like many LGBTQ+ people, he struggled with his sexuality – and in his own words, he became ‘the most homophobic gay man you'd ever meet', as he hid the fact he was gay while sometimes even joining in with discriminatory chants on the terraces. So, to say that a young Ian would have been surprised to see himself as co-chair of United with Pride – Newcastle United's LGBTQ+ supporters group – would be a massive understatement! And speaking of understatements, it's fair to say that neither Ian nor United with Pride have had the easiest of times since the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover of Newcastle United was confirmed last month. So, there's plenty for us to get into in this episode – from United with Pride's decision to welcome and work with the new owners; what might make them reconsider that decision; the social media abuse they've received over the past few weeks; Ian's own love of Newcastle United; his own personal journey; some of his most memorable moments as a fan; and so much more. It's all in an episode that's sure to get people talking – and we're grateful that Ian has taken the time to join us for it. Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Alex Churchill to look ahead to Saturday's match against Newcastle. In part one, Adam Newson from Football.London joins us to look back at Chelsea's Carabao Cup victory over Southampton in midweek where despite imjury related changes, a make shift Chelsa side got the job done. We ask who impressed and who didn't and does the win prove that Chelsea has a good enough and big enough squad to cope with the fixture congestion in December and beyond? We also report back on today's Press Conference, talk Chelsea's injuries, the title challenge and the Rudiger and Christensen contract situation. In part two, we preview Newcastle v Chelsea match. What's the likely team selection; we look at two Newcastle myths - that they are a bogey side for us when we play up there and that now they have money, they can be considered a big club. Also will the euphoria cuased by the arrival of Saudi money and the deprture of Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce produce a bounce against us on Saturday. We wrap up with how we see it going and give our predictions. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Fanoušci Newcastlu slaví konec Ashleyho éry, ale i noví majitelé budí vášně

Potečou do Premier League další petrodolary, navíc poněkud zbarvené krví odpůrců režimu? Tito movití arabští investoři mají chuť a prostředky ji zvelebit,“ dodává Martin Vait. Martin Vait doporučuje ambicióznímu vedení Magpies do klubu urychleně přivést kvalitní krajní obránce a posílit střed zálohy. Nejnovější epizoda podcastu Angličan rozebírá i nepřesvědčivý výkon české fotbalové reprezentace s Walesem. Poslechněte si celou epizodu!

A lot has changed in just seven days in the world of Newcastle United. We weigh up the consequences of it all on this week's podcast! Part 1 (00:42) It was an international break, but there was still a pretty huge story in club football unfolding over the last week. Newcastle United has been sold, Mike Ashley is out and in has come, well… it's the Saudi state let's face it Part 2 (32:51) We have discussed, at length, the merits and faults of the big four teams in the Premier League this season. But what about the other 16 teams that make up this season? Where does their quality lie, and how strong of a league is this? Part 3 (1:09:24) The Premier League returns with a relatively tame set of fixtures. The biggest one is arguably between Leicester City and Man United. I get the impression both sides could do with a win here… Closing Contact us: @thetfpod on Twitter or email us at theTFpod@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter: Declan @CheesyHartePun & Andrew @Conbon27 For more, subscribe to Declan's writing over at cheesyhartepun.medium.com Remember to rate/review the show on your podcast provider of choice and do tell friends and family about the show.
