The East London district of West Ham might be best known globally for the football team of the same name, but in the late 19th century, the area became famous for something much darker. West Ham, and in particular, a single road within the district, became the scene for a series of unusual disappearances that took place over more than a decade, as young girls were vanished away from the streets, never to be seen again. At least until one was found dead and stuffed into a cupboard in an empty house.SOURCES Bondeson, Jan (2016) Rivals of The Ripper: Unsolved Murders of Women in Late Victorian London. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jonathan Liew, Martin Samuel and Jack Pitt-Brooke to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We kick off with Manchester City's win over Leeds United at Elland Road; and while the sporting headline was Antoine Semenyo's goal pulling Arsenal back to within two points with games level, we also address the City fans booing the Ramadan break and discuss the possible consequences. Then it's over to Arsenal. With 15 goals so far in his debut season, we ask whether Viktor Gyökeres can be the striker to fire them to the title. Jack isn't convinced, arguing that a more mobile profile like Hugo Ekitike might have been the better fit for Mikel Arteta's side.We also turn to Chelsea and ask whether Liam Rosenior's side are slipping further behind Arsenal. Jonathan argues that Arsenal have pulled ahead, widening the gap between the two London rivals. Then, we break down Liverpool's 5-2 win at Anfield against a struggling West Ham. With seven of their last nine league goals coming from corners, could Liverpool be the new kings of set-piece attacks? Finally, Tottenham face a crucial run with two London derbies and a tough trip to Atlético on the horizon. Could this be the moment when Igor Tudor's real business begins?Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Lewis Aspinall returns with your Daily Red as attention turns to the trip to West Ham and another crucial Premier League test. Arne Slot's recent comments on Ngumoha have raised eyebrows, offering a glimpse into how the head coach views Liverpool's next generation and what it takes to break into the senior squad. Lewis breaks down what those remarks really mean, whether opportunities are genuinely there for young talent, and how that fits into the bigger picture at the club. There is also discussion around the young players who have moved on in recent windows. Are Liverpool sharpening the pathway or cashing in too soon. What does it say about the club's recruitment and development model, and could any departures come back to haunt them. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Host Richard Garnett is joined by Ian Doyle to digest a massive day for Liverpool's European ambitions. Following the UEFA Champions League draw in Nyon, the Reds have been paired with Turkish champions Galatasaray in the Round of 16—a tie that carries plenty of history and a trip to the intimidating atmosphere of Istanbul. But the path doesn't get any easier; should Arne Slot's men progress, they are on a collision course with Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. The lads break down the "nightmare" side of the bracket and discuss whether this is the toughest possible route to the final in Budapest. Also on the agenda is a look ahead to Saturday's 3pm kick-off at Anfield against West Ham United. Can Liverpool keep the pressure on the top four against a Hammers side fighting for survival? Les and Dave discuss whether David Moyes' habit of choosing his most "trusted" players is damaging team performances and results, before asking whether the manager needs time to build a squad as he has done previously at Everton and, more recently and more successfully, at West Ham.A look at his West Ham record feels very familiar to this version of Everton:2017–18: 13th place (first spell, took over in November and kept them up)2019–20: 16th place (returned mid-season, again stabilised them)2020–21: 6th place (record 65 points, qualified for Europa League).2021–22: 7th place (back‑to‑back top‑seven finishes, Europa League semi‑finals).2022–23: 14th place (struggled in league but won Europa Conference League).2023–24: 9th place (top half again in his final season in charge). We then look ahead to two important games against Newcastle and West Ham. Will Moyes be forced to utilise his squad more? Is defeat against Burnley unthinkable, even if Everton get a result at Newcastle?Let us know your thoughts... Learn more about your ad choices. In the latest Scouser Tommies episode, Jim Boardman and Jay Reid look back at Liverpool's lucky 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest and ahead to both the Champions League draw and a run of crucial, supposedly winnable fixtures. But with LFC 25-26, how winnable will they really be? Jim and Jay dissect the narrow (and let's be honest, fortunate) victory, voicing concerns over a “dysfunctional” display lacking spark and creativity. Jim questions the wisdom of giving players time off when tactical work feels overdue, while Jay criticizes Arne Slot's limited rotation and reliance on a tight core of players, suggesting Liverpool still lack a clear identity. The duo discuss Slot's reluctance to trust youth, praising 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha for his fearless cameos that bring the directness missing from the regular starters. They also vent about “traffic warden-level” refereeing and dubious VAR calls, wondering if Slot's patience-based tactics, which seem to consist of letting opponents tire, are a risky break from the club's proactive traditions. Looking ahead, they ask if the FA Cup is Liverpool's best shot at silverware, remain skeptical about Champions League progress, and stress that the coming League run against West Ham, Wolves and Spurs is a must-win stretch to secure a top-five finish. Can Liverpool finally deliver a performance as convincing as their ambitions? As always, there's a look across the park to the docks and plenty to laugh about from the old neighbours, with Jay pointing out one thing they are definitely the masters of. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord and West Ham fan Chris Stone to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Saturday's meeting at Anfield which could have big implications at both ends of the table. Liverpool are hoping to secure Champions League qualification for next season and consecutive 1-0 away wins has them in contention to do so, but could they be distracted by other Cup commitments? West Ham remain 18th, but have lost one in six and have Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in their sights, there's discussion on the battle to stay up and what The Hammers may need to escape - and there is reason from both perspectives to suggest in the immediate West Ham could cause a surprise on Saturday. Plus, all the key FPL assets covered, with Liverpool very much on mind with a great immediate run of fixtures. There's coverage on Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz, Mo Salah and Hugo Ekitike. But FPL managers would be well advised to keep Hammers assets on mind, with Mads Hermansen, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Matheus Fernandes, Crysensio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen all giving reason to monitor. Get more from Analytics United: https://www.patreon.com/AnalyticsUnited With West Ham United battling to maintain Premier League status, is a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bournemouth enough? Is it a point gained or two points dropped? This week on The West Ham Breakdown, Cal and Jack dive deep into the tactical nuances of a game that was more than just a bore draw. They discuss why this performance was a symbol of West Ham's evolution from leaky to resolute and explore how the Hammers managed to completely neutralise one of the league's most aggressive pressing sides, limiting Bournemouth to the fewest high regains they've achieved so far in 2026. Cal and Jack break down how West Ham's rotations affected Bournemouth, highlighting Mads Hermansen's role in disrupting Bournemouth's man-to-man press, and how the midfield flexibility of Mateus Fernandes, Soungoutou Magassa and Tomáš Souček left the Cherries looking lost. They also discuss West Ham's relegation rivals, including a look at Spurs' recent struggles and why the underdog narrative might just be the catalyst Nuno needs to carry the Hammers to safety. Suj and James fared very differently again in FPL in GW27 as clean sheets were bust, well owned players flopped but one hauler for James in Nico O'Reilly made the difference; but there is no doubt as James even concedes, that there was big slice of luck that he even still owned him. That was the highlight of a weekend for James, which ended with another North London Derby humbling as Tottenham continue to look nervously over their shoulder at West Ham and Nottingham Forest, who both failed to score but were unlucky to do so. There's a much promised look at Rayan and comparison to other midfielders in a similiar price bracket. Bournemouth along with Brentford, Fulham and Liverpool assets are likely to be popular this week, should Arsenal players be binned despite Sunday's comfortable win, Chelsea's brilliant fixture run is over and they slipped up against Burnley, should their assets including the in-form Joao Pedro be moved on too? All the games covered, the OOP not called O'Reilly catching the eye despite a blank and lots more...
