The goodwill of other countries will mean New Zealand's vaccine stocks will not run short while we wait for the big promised deliveries from Pfizer next month. The Delta outbreak saw vaccination rates jump from the planned 350,000 a week to more than 500,000, putting pressure on NZ stocks. A deal has been negotiated with Spain and a quarter of a million Pfizer doses are en route and should arrive in New Zealand tomorrow morning. There are 13 new Delta cases in the community today - down from 15 yesterday. All of the new cases are in Auckland. The government's Covid-19 spokesperson Kris Faafoi talks to Lisa Owen. He defended Greens co-leader and Climate Minister James Shaw's planned trip to Glasgow, which will need MIQ rooms when he returns. Faafoi said it is important the business of government continues. He said it would be a small number of people going, but could not say exactly how many people would be going with Shaw. On MIQ bookings, Faafoi said there have been no group bookings consented since the Delta outbreak began. Regarding the freeze on MIQ group bookings, Faafoi could not say how long the freeze would continue. “We will keep assessing those on a relatively regular basis.” On MIQ bookings over January and February, Faafoi could not specifically say what group bookings have been approved. He also could not say if any existing bookings for those months have been assessed for deferral, in case extra capacity is needed.

Delta is changing the country's covid-19 response and tonight's move to Alert Level Two will be no exception. From 11.59pm every part of the country will move down alert levels except Auckland, which stays marooned in alert level 4. But there's new requirements to be aware of under "Level Two Delta". Most notably outdoor venues can have up to a hundred people, but indoor venues can have just 50 - that's half as many as before - and indoor social distancing has doubled to two metres. Masks must be worn in most public venues - while they are recommended, but not mandatory for children returning to school on Thursday. On top of that workers crossing the Auckland border will have to get tested once a week, a move that has frustrated those working in the road freight industry. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spoke to Corin Dann.
