In our labours to extend the Kingdom of God, there are challenging times when it appears as though our best efforts are bearing little or no fruit, while others seem to spring up before our eyes and bear a mighty harvest. It is a wonderful and reassuring thought that, at any time, the Lord can intervene to water the seeds we sow and bring about a great blessing and release. Let us not give up on sowing, just because we cannot see any green shoots. Music: Colin Owen: Ayre Musicians: Julia, Thomas and Susanne Herzog, Peter Richards Some years ago, a friend told Robert how he had picked up a hitchhiker who he discovered was a Christian. When Robert's friend asked his passenger how he had come to know the Lord, he was surprised to hear that a certain Robert Weston had given him a lift years before, and had witnessed to him . . . Robert had forgotten all about it, but the Lord hadn't; He had gone on watering and nurturing the seed and now here it was bearing its own fruit. Praise God for the great life there is in the seeds that we sow. In Your resurrection body, Jesus, You gave Your friends and disciples a glimpse of the life-flow that belongs to Your children in the Heavenly Kingdom. And You instructed them in the way of the Kingdom, preparing them for their great mission. You meet with us, too, and send us out on many, many missions, many works and errands of mercy too. Thank You that even in these difficult times there is no cap or quota to the number of prayers that You are willing to respond to, no dam that brings the waters to a full-stop, because You answer when we call. I wonder if there are any obstacles and boulders, prejudices and unforgiveness that have been blocking the water flow in your life? God is a very present help in any kind of trouble – but we must keep pressing in and seeking Him. At any point the power of Heaven can intervene and break through.
Few, and certainly not the present writer, could have foreseen the emergence of President Zelensky onto the world stage in the starring central role that he has risen to. It takes an unusually gifted man to inspire and motivate American Congress and British Parliament alike to commit themselves to a distant campaign. Ever conscious of the need to win global support, Zelensky has also led the charge against swathes of corruption that had been plaguing the country. It is clearly both important and strategic to pray for this man and his family, who has mobilised the morale of his nation and brought about a release of armaments that would certainly not have otherwise come about. Pray for his protection and for good judgement and wise decision making concerning the many pressing matters he constantly has to deal with on all fronts. Oboe concerto, RV 447 (2nd movement) by Vivaldi Musicians led by Thomas and Susanne Herzog (oboe and violin)
Bach: Sinfonia from Cantata Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis (BWV 21) Musicians: Thomas Herzog (oboe) Susanne Herzog and Anne Seidel (violins) and Alex Koderisch (cello) Cleanse our inmost desires. Help us to love what You love and to hate the ways by which evil appeals to our senses. Straighten out our muddled longings, Lord, especially those which would make us quest after things which in reality would do us a great deal of harm. Lord, deliver us from evil. May humility, truth and love safeguard us from the evil one. When I see someone who is so much more obviously blessed and gifted than I am, help me not to feel rejected or passed over. Keep me from the sharp pangs of jealousy and envy. I hand these feelings to You now. Lord, deliver us from the power of envy and rejection. Release my heart to weep with those who weep and to rejoice with those who rejoice.
Join Ros, Grace, Sally and myself in this invitation to pray the Lord's covering over the span of our nation. Vivaldi: Concerto in D minor Op. 8:7 RV 242 2nd movt. Musicians: Shirley Richards, Helen Rees, Cathie Muncey, Chian Lewis Lim, Corinne Frost (strings) Fontane Liang (keyboard) Traditional: Greensleeves Musicians: Thomas Herzog (recorder) Susanne Herzog and Anne Seidel (violins) and Alex Koderisch (cello). Bless all who even now are waking up on the far side of the world and looking to You. Hold our nation in the palm of Your hand. As night falls and the workers of darkness bestir themselves, Protect our land from their malice and from acts of wanton destruction. Loose each victim from those who send out tormenting spells, from all snares of seduction and bewitching, from lust and depravity, from despondency and despair. May the outstretched hand of the Lord push back the frontiers of darkness, and grant such strength and succour that those who follow You may never tire of serving You. Lord, we follow Your leading now, as You prompt our spirits to pray, far beyond our place of work or neighbourhood, far beyond our Christian circles and connections, Holy Spirit of Prayer, set our hearts free to follow Your leading now.
At a folk dance on a village square in Majorca many years ago I heard this delightful piece being played, which we transcribed and arranged many years later for Julia Herzog (descant recorder) and Susanne Herzog (violin.) Having come across this piece in passing we obviously do not know who wrote it, but assume it to be a traditional Majorcan folk tune.

Pantete Chairete - Rejoice always (1 Thess. 5:16) I had long wanted to record this gloriously dynamic movement from Bach's magnificent 4th Brandenburg concerto, and was so grateful when the chance came along to do so. Massive thanks to the heroic musicians who played this challenging piece so beautifully for us - Julia and Thomas Herzog, (recorders), Susanne Herzog, Shirley Richards and Helen Rees (violins), Julian Chan (viola), Jo Garcia (cello) and Christiane von Albrecht (continuo). We hope the accompanying words will prove an inspiration too. People are concerned to go to great lengths to use PC (Politically Correct) language these days – but here's a radically different suggestion from the Greek New Testament. for how we might prefer to look on the abbreviation ‘PC': Pantete Chairete - Rejoice always. When Jesus first showed Himself alive from the dead to His disciples in Matthew 28:9, He used the word chairete ‘rejoice' as His greeting to them. Paul likewise closed his second letter to the Corinthians by urging them to rejoice. (2 Cor. 13:11). This phrase became a watchword for the Early Church – and it is surely one we can take deeply to heart and make the refrain of our hearts: all the way from greetings to partings: Pantete Chairete Rejoice (be glad) always in the Lord - at all times and 'every when'. Easier to say than to do at times, to be sure, but so worth the taking to heart. How lovely if, when we meet with fellow believers, instead of our usual ‘hellos!' we can respond with a vigorous cheerful Pantete Chairete – rejoice always!' no matter what outward circumstances we may be facing.
"Mein nächstes größeres Werk wird ein Cellokonzert sein", erklärte Dmitrij Schostakowitsch im Sommer 1959. Bereits im Oktober fand die Uraufführung dieses Ersten Cellokonzerts von Schostakowitsch statt: mit dem Widmungsträger Mstislaw Rostropowitsch als Solist und den Leningrader Philharmonikern unter Jewgenij Mrawinsky. Susanne Herzog stellt das Werk gemeinsam mit dem Cellisten Johannes Moser vor.
The words and music of this incredibly powerful Kyrie were written by Huw Humphries and are sung by Linda Entwistle. May it bless you as you listen and take its call to heart. Linda Entwistle (vocal and keyboard) Thomas Herzog (oboe) Anthony Thompson (trumpet) Nicola Gerrard (flute) Susanne Herzog, Catherine Muncie and Corinne Frost (strings).
We are releasing this exquisite viola theme in the summer of 2018, when devastating wildfires have claimed lives all around the world, most notably in Greece. May the music - which is timeless - minister, and continue to minister, into many situations where grief has struck ,and where people find themselves in utterly changed landscapes as the result of loss and setbacks. The music was inspired by an original improvisation at one of our prayer conferences, and played by Julian Chan(viola)with Julia and Susanne Herzog and James Horsfall.
