The Annunciation, where the Angel Gabriel appeared to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ was incarnated, is a prime example of how Mary knew to trust God and place her hope in him. Listen to Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C share more in this segment from the Son Rise Morning Show on Sacred Heart Radio, in his reflection on Pope Francis' Bull of Indiction for the Jubilee Year, Spes Non Confundit.24. Hope finds its supreme witness in the Mother of God. In the Blessed Virgin, we see that hope is not naive optimism but a gift of grace amid the realities of life. Like every mother, whenever Mary looked at her Son, she thought of his future. Surely she kept pondering in her heart the words spoken to her in the Temple by the elderly Simeon: “This child is destined for the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed, so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed – and a sword will pierce your own soul too” (Lk 2:34-35). At the foot of the cross, she witnessed the passion and death of Jesus, her innocent son. Overwhelmed with grief, she nonetheless renewed her “fiat”, never abandoning her hope and trust in God. In this way, Mary cooperated for our sake in the fulfilment of all that her Son had foretold in announcing that he would have to “undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again” (Mk 8:31). In the travail of that sorrow, offered in love, Mary became our Mother, the Mother of Hope. It is not by chance that popular piety continues to invoke the Blessed Virgin as Stella Maris, a title that bespeaks the sure hope that, amid the tempests of this life, the Mother of God comes to our aid, sustains us and encourages us to persevere in hope and trust. In this regard, I would note that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is preparing to celebrate, in 2031, the fifth centenary of Our Lady's first apparition. Through Juan Diego, the Mother of God brought a revolutionary message of hope that she continues to bring to every pilgrim and all the faithful: “Am I not here, who am your Mother?” [20] That message continues to touch hearts in the many Marian shrines throughout the world, where countless pilgrims commend to the holy Mother of God their cares, their sorrows and their hopes. During the Jubilee Year, may these shrines be sacred places of welcome and privileged spaces for the rebirth of hope. I encourage all pilgrims to Rome to spend time in prayer in the Marian shrines of the City, in order to venerate the Blessed Mother and to implore her protection. I am confident that everyone, especially the suffering and those most in need, will come to know the closeness of Mary, the most affectionate of mothers, who never abandons her children and who, for the holy people of God, is “a sign of certain hope and comfort”. This is episode 219 — a new Governor has sailed into Table Bay. Sir Philip Edmond Wodehouse, born in 1811, eldest child of Edmond Wodehouse who married his first cousin Lucy, daughter of Philip Wodehouse, uncle Philip to Sir Philip Edmond. How very Victorian. Queen Victoria herself, who married her first cousin Prince Albert—did allow and even encourage cousin marriage, particularly among royalty and the upper classes to consolidate power, property, and lineage. But it also increased the risk of birth defects by 2 percent, and if both parents carry a recessive gene mutation, their child has a 25 percent chance of expressing the disorder. Scientists have a well-worn phrase for this — its called inbreeding. Wodehouse junior entered the Ceylon Civil Service in 1828, and was installed as superintendent of British Honduras between 1851 to 1854. From there he sailed to British Guiana where he served as Governor between 1854 to 1861 — before heading to the Cape in 1862. It's illuminating to touch on Sir Philip Wodehouse's disastrous time in British Guiana. Two years after he took office in the South American country, the Angel Gabriel riots broke out. His implacable opponent was John Sayers Orr, whose nom de guerre was the Angel Gabriel, was half Scottish, half African. Edinburgh's Caledonian Newspaper of the time reported that his mother Mary Ann Orr was a respectable coloured woman and married to a respectable Scot — John Orr senior. Young John Sayer Orr was rabidly anti-papal, hated the Pope and had an anti-Catholic obsession. He took to the Guianese streets with bullhorn in hand, whereupon the distant Glasgow Herald noted he spoke “rampant anti-papist froth and lies..” Between 1850 and 1851 he popped up in Boston, then New York, Bath in Maine, and Manchester in New Hampshire. In 1854 he was hustled off by police in Boston. Apart from the usual racial insults levelled at him, the Boston police report says he had more impudence than brains .. “…who with a three cornered hat and a cockade on his head, and old brass horn .. took advantage of the political excitement .. travelled around the city …tooting his horn … collecting crowds in the streets, delivering what he called his political lectures and passing around the hat for contributions…” Sounds like a modern political influencer, the bullhorn, the disinformation, the extreme rhetoric, not to mention his hat which is literally crowd sourcing. He was arrested at least 20 times for what was called his international harangues tour — where he'd shout confusing messages like “Scorn be those who rob us of our rights — purgatory for popery and the Pope — Freedom to man be he black or white — Rule Britannia…!!” Bizarrely, the resonances to today's crazy politics continued, Orr was associated with the fantastically named Know Nothing Party in America. Wait to hear about this bunch, you'll recognise bits of modern USA. Members of the movement were required to say "I know nothing" whenever they were asked about its specifics by outsiders, and that providing the group with its colloquial name. Before you wonder aloud what relevance all this has, let me quickly point out that the so-called Know Nothing Party had 43 representatives in Congress at the height of its power in the late 1850s. In 1855 this strange 19th Century character pitched up in British Guiana, and Sir Philip Wodehouse had his work cut out. Soon Orr was up to his old tricks, walking about with his bull horn, carrying a flag and a British imperial badge, followed by a group of …. Well .. followers. They were not repeating they Knew Nothing, but attacking the British establishment. We'll also hear about the Angel Gabriel riots. By 1862 Wodehouse who survived a public stoning in Guiana, had arrived in the Cape as Governor. Here he was to face the implacable enemies - the Westerners and the Easterners. Two parts of the Cape that did not get along.

On Tuesday, March 25, we marked one of most important feast days of the Church, the Annunciation, the day when Mary said ‘Yes' to the Angel Gabriel – thus to God's plan for her life – and the Word was made flesh, and our Redeemer was conceived – the one whose passion, death and Resurrection we will commemorate in Holy Week and Easter Sunday. I mention this because this week, instead of an interview, I present a special on the Holy House of Loreto – a beautiful and historical shrine in Italy built to house the dwelling in which Mary received the Angel Gabriel, in which the Annunciation took place. How did that home come to Italy from the Holy Land? (Re-Air)

Lc 1,26-38: Celebramos hoy la Solemnidad del Angel Gabriel a María.
Read OnlineThe angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” Luke 1:26–28Imagine if the Angel Gabriel, the glorious Archangel who stands before the Most Holy Trinity, were to come to you and announce to you that you were “full of grace” and that “The Lord is with you.” What an indescribable and awe-inspiring experience that would be! And yet this is exactly what happened to this young teenager, the Blessed Virgin Mary.We celebrate today this amazing event that took place, marking the moment when God took on human flesh within her blessed womb. Note that today is nine months before Christmas. The Church gives us this Solemnity today to invite us to walk with Mary over these coming nine months so as to join her in her rejoicing over the birth of her divine Son.Much could be said about this glorious Solemnity. We could ponder Mother Mary and her Immaculate Conception. We could ponder the very words spoken by the Archangel. We could ponder the mystery surrounding her pregnancy and the way in which God chose to set this gift into motion. And we could ponder so much more. Though all of these aspects are worth fully pondering and praying over, let's focus upon the reaction of this young woman to the angelic announcement.First, we read that Mary was “greatly troubled” and “pondered” these words spoken by the Archangel. Being troubled reveals that Mary did not have full knowledge of what the Archangel was revealing. But the fact that she pondered the words also reveals her openness to a fuller understanding. She then seeks a deeper gift of knowledge by asking, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” This response is first an assent of belief in faith followed by a request for a deeper understanding of this revelation. Faith is the ability to assent to that which we do not fully understand, but true faith always seeks a deeper understanding—and this is what Mary did. After being given some further revelation by the Archangel, Mary fully accepts what was revealed and trusts that what she was told was all she needed to know at that time. And then she offers what has come to be known as her “fiat.” She says, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” This fiat of Mary is her perfect prayer of surrender to the will of God, and it is also the perfect model for how we all must respond to the will of God. We must see ourselves as true servants of His will, and we must fully embrace whatsoever God asks of us, completely uniting our wills to His.Reflect, today, upon these words of our Blessed Mother: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” How is God asking you to make this your prayer also? How is God calling you to serve His most holy will? Are you willing to fully assent to anything and everything God asks of you? As you prayerfully reflect upon this fiat of our Blessed Mother, seek to unite her response to yours so that you, too, will be a servant of the most high God.Father in Heaven, You sent Your Son to become incarnate in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Your glorious Archangel Gabriel brought forth this Good News. May I always be attentive to the messages You send forth to me as You invite me to join in Your divine mission of bringing Your Son into the world. I say “Yes'' this day, dear Lord, to serve Your most holy will. La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak in the Diocese of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Isaiah 7: 10-14; 8: 10; Rs psalm 40: 7-8a.8b-9.10.11; Hebrews 10: 4-10; Luke 1: 26-38TODAY'S GOOD NEWS The theme for our meditation today, the Solemnity ofthe Annunciation of the Lord is: Today's Good News. In the current trendysocial media-based short videos, we are always given the answer to thequestion: "What are today's words?" The person being questionedalways gives answers in the form of nice words to hear, expressions offriendship, motivational statements, and inspiring exclamations. For example, when you watch and hear a motivationalstatement in this manner, "Stedfast in your faith, never give up, becausea day's hardship is enough for a day," and at that very moment you aredepressed and disappointed by a certain problem, you will be comforted andcalm. You will restart your day by being excited and joyful again. In our time, audio-visual and digital-based socialmedia is running hand in hand with the creativity of the human generation ofmedia users who are increasingly expanding and advanced. The preaching anddissemination of the good news can be done by as many people as possible withtheir own abilities and creativity. In this connection, the event of the Annuncitationof the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary of Nazareth who was appointed as theMother of God and Jesus the Savior of the world born through the womb of Mary, should be the main motivation for us to always share the good news, the joyful words, and the wonderful story of salvation among us. Basically, God Himself is the giver and sharer of thejoyful news of the mysteries of His glory to us. This Solemnity of theAnnunciation is one of the God's revelations of His glory. It is this act ofGod that we must continue in our daily lives, when we are the ones who conceivethe good news and bring them to the world or our own presence that becomes goodnews for the people around us. The question would this: what is the content ofgood news can we share? For us the people belong to Jesus Christ who are sentas His witnesses in the world, the content of today's good news that we bringis of course the Lord Jesus Himself. Words, expressions, and statements thatcontain goodness to comfort and strengthen must be acknowledged as inspirationfrom God, and not from Satan or any particular evil spirit. Ghosts do not haveauthority to spread the good news of God. We, as individuals and as a community, should bringthe name of Jesus, His actions and teachings as the glad tidings that weproclaim to others. As the scriptures say, we are indeed salt and light for theworld today. God is the glad tidings, we are the bearers.Let us pray. In the name of the Father... O Almighty God,enable us to be true bearers of joyful news in today's world. Our Father who artin heaven... In the name of the Father ...
Day 1: Mary, Full of Grace From the Gospel according to Luke 1:28 In the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David: and the virgin's name was Mary. The Angel came to her and said, Rejoice, Full of Grace! Let us pray: Almighty Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we thank You for bestowing upon Your highly favored daughter all the graces to be Your Son's Mother and to be the Mother of all. We thank You for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to be our redeemer and savior. Thank You for giving us the breath of life and the splendor of Your creations. We thank You, Father, our Lord, and our God, for Your infinite kindness and mercy. How good You are to us, your children. We praise you and worship you, with Your Son, Jesus Christ, and his Mother Mary, our intercessor. To You, we owe everything. We acknowledge humbly that without You, we are nothing. Receive our gratitude and our undying adoration and devotion. We will try to reciprocate Your loving kindness by obeying Your commandments, by loving our neighbors and by earnestly endeavoring to become more like Your Son. We shall continuously affirm Your lordship and celebrate Your goodness and kindness all the days of our life. Amen. Do you get bored or distracted while praying the Rosary? Do friends try to convince you that you're praying meaningless prayers? In this podcast episode, Patrick Madrid explained how the Rosary is basically a Bible study on beads. The Rosary = A Deep Dive into the Life of Jesus The Rosary is not just repetitive prayers: it's a meditation on the entire life of Christ, straight from the Gospels! The Joyful Mysteries? (Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity) → Luke 1-2, Matthew 1 The Sorrowful Mysteries? (Agony in the Garden, Crucifixion) → Matthew 26, John 19 The Glorious Mysteries? (Resurrection, Ascension) → Acts 2, Revelation 12 Even the Luminous Mysteries (Baptism of Jesus, Wedding at Cana) come straight from Scripture! Hail Mary? Straight Out Of Luke! Ever wonder where the Hail Mary comes from? It's word-for-word from the Gospel of Luke: "Hail, full of grace" (Luke 1:28): Angel Gabriel’s greeting "Blessed are you among women..." (Luke 1:42): Elizabeth’s words when Mary visits The second half? A reflection of Mary's intercessory role and the reality that, yeah, we all need prayers now and at the hour of our death. Is Repetition... Bad? Some people say the Rosary is vain repetition, but Patrick claps back with some solid biblical truth: Jesus prayed the same prayer three times in Gethsemane. (Matthew 26) The Psalms? FULL of repetition. (Ever read Psalm 136? "His mercy endures forever" on repeat!) Repetition isn't the issue: empty repetition is. The Rosary is focused, intentional prayer that helps you stay locked on Jesus. Mary: The Ultimate Prayer Partner Why go to Mary? God chose her from eternity to be the Mother of Jesus. She was created without sin (Immaculate Conception: check out Genesis 3:15 and Luke 1). When we ask Mary to pray for us, we’re asking the one who was closest to Jesus on earth and is now crowned in heaven (Revelation 12). Why Pray the Rosary? Patrick explains that if you're struggling with sin or feeling distant from God, the Rosary can you help you to overcome this temptation! It’s a defensive weapon to guard your soul, not some outdated ritual. Think of it as suiting up in the armor of God (Ephesians 6). Bottom Line? The Rosary comes straight from Scripture. It’s a powerhouse prayer that keeps you focused on Jesus while letting His mother intercede for you. So next time you pick up those beads, remember: you're literally praying the Bible.

Christ's birth, though humble, was the arrival of the long-awaited Davidic King promised in Scripture. The angel Gabriel told Mary her son would be called the Son of the Most High and receive the throne of his father, David, to reign forever. His birth fulfilled Old Testament prophecies of a coming eternal King. The birth of the King inaugurated the kingdom he would establish through his death and resurrection. ★ Support this podcast ★

Movie Workshop, Mosteiro Itaici, Sao Paulo, Brazil, with David HoffmeisterThe movie used in this workshop focuses on Jesus's Mother, Mary, and portrays a series of unpredictable events, with the Angel Gabriel serving as a guiding light. These events, though firm, hint at a purpose beyond this world. The ego created the world as a closed system of darkness with no hope of escape. The world was dark before Christ, with Jewish prophecies about the Messiah seeming forgotten. Salvation is seen as a way to escape this darkness, fulfilling the prophecy. The New Testament underscores the importance of Jesus's birth and liberation from a bleak and dismal world. Without a bright ray of light, no contrast or sign of something greater exists. If you want to know more about David Hoffmeister and the Living Miracles events, here is more information: https://www.the-christ.net/eventsRecorded, Afternoon December 14, 2024, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Friends of the Rosary, During Advent, the example of Mary and Joseph shows us how to listen with an open heart and discern the will of God. In the act of listening to the Angel Gabriel — as we are reading this week in the Gospel — Mary and Joseph became a model of humility and obedience to the Divinity. Therefore, we are invited to reflect on the profound meaning of listening in a world full of noise, distraction, and confusion. We are called to cultivate a receptive and open attitude to the Word of God through the intercession of Mary and the example of Saint Joseph. This is the opposite of the sin of pride, characterized by self-sufficiency and not recognizing the need to learn or receive from others. Advent is a providential time to heal this weakness of the human heart. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New York • December 20, 2024, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET
Angels help care for, protect, and guide God's people. When we die, we can expect to see the hosts of angels before God's throne. In this message, Pastor Lutzer makes two observations about the purpose of angels related to believers and our salvation. Like the angels, do we rejoice in our own salvation?
Angels delight in the salvation in which they play no part—except to see God's grace upon us. God gave the angel Gabriel specific tasks, and he obediently carried them out. In this message from Luke 1, Pastor Lutzer teaches practical lessons from the angel Gabriel's career. In what ways should we be like angels? The Angel Gabriel comes to a young girl who is to be betrothed. she is living a very normal and common life. unbeknownst to her God has chosen her to be the recipient of the most precious gift of all. but the Holy Spirit will overshadow her and she will become pregnant and bear child in his name will be Jesus. but we will be looking at is her brief interaction with the angel and how her words and inform us of where her heart is. she sees obedience and receiving Jesus Christ as the jewel of greatest prize. she doesn't seem concerned about her marriage, or about her parents, or about the culture or about anything anybody else will think. she simply wants to understand how God is going to do this impossible thing. And after the angel Gabriel explains it to her she is fully submitted and a willing handmaiden of God. We might consider receiving Christ fully into our life as to costly, but Mary tells us that there is no greater price nothing that's not worth giving up in order to receive Christ.

The world is fascinated by angels, seeing them as more accessible, or even less demanding, than God. But why did God create angels? In this message, Pastor Lutzer discusses three assumptions people make when seeking contact with angels. Angels serve God's people, but we shouldn't ever elevate them to a place of worship. From Sunday 8 December 2024 Pastor Jason Clark continues the Sermon Series, "The Coming of the Son of Man" from the book of Luke. Today's message is “In the Sixth Month the Angel Gabriel was Sent to a Virgin” Luke 1:26-38fbcmw.org

The Angel Gabriel's next stop is an obscure town in Northern Judea to announce the birth of the messiah to a young Jewish Virgin. This scene has shaped the imagination and liturgy of the Church in profoundly positive and harmful ways. Mary, the God-bearer, is a picture of Mother Church and the true Christian; favored of God, thoughtful, obedient, believing, worshipful and a faithful follower of God's word. As we begin reading the Gospel of Luke, Fr. Mike draws our attention to Mary. He clarifies the difference between Zechariah's response and Mary's response to the angel Gabriel, and also explains why Mary is the Ark of the new Covenant. We learn that through Mary, God begins to fulfill his promises to the people of Israel. Today's readings are Luke 1-2, and Proverbs 25:24-26. Questions Covered: 01:12 – Did fetal microchimerism have a part to play in Mary's assumption? 06:10 – There is a practice where people fast during lent from one thing (food, vice.) Some people say that when you pray Sunday evening prayer 1 on Saturday, it is now Sunday where you feast and you don't have to fast from your Lenten fast anymore. Is this a sound practice or should one only stop their Lenten fast on Sunday? 09:55 – Is it true that the ends never justify the means? It seems that this belief would prohibit things like war. A popular moral question is; If the nazis asked you where a Jewish family is hiding, isn't it best to lie? How else can you respond? I haven't heard you speak on this and I'm interested in your perspective 13:22 – Why do priests not get to marry? Doesn’t this lead some into sexual sin anyways when they harm children in the worst cases? God gave us a holy marriage between men and women for this purpose. Why? 19:14 – If the West believes in original sin, and the Eastern Orthodox believe in ancestral sin, where does that put Eastern Catholics? I spoke with one Eastern Catholic priest who said they affirm ancestral sin, but I thought in order to be Catholic you had to believe in original sin? 21:08 – Both are good, but is it better to know history or philosophy? Concerning Catholicism or life in general (your opinion). 23:15 – I have a question concerning canon 285.2 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. It states: “Clerics are to avoid those things which, although not unbecoming, are nevertheless foreign to the clerical state.” Is the law thinking of any special area here? Could you give an example of something that is totally fine to do for a layperson but not for a priest? 31:09 – Do you like tooled leather? 32:12 – Can you explain Vicarious Satisfaction as taught by Aquinas vs. Penal Substitutionary Atonement and is Penal Substitution the foundation for salvation by Faith Alone? 36:52 – Kinda a silly question, but when Moses, Elijah, and other old testament characters “saw God,” did they see Jesus before He was sent from heaven and born unto the world through the Blessed Virgin Mary? Or did they actually see “God the Father?” 40:41 – You have previously critiqued the philosophical version of the Kalam argument because you believe God is capable of actualizing a universe with an infinite past. Let’s take that for granted. It seems to me that an atheist cannot make such an appeal to support the possibility of an infinitely old universe. Therefore, could someone use the philosophical version of the Kalam as a sort of “internal critique” of the atheist worldview. One can say, “What you describe is impossible without divine omnipotence making it happen.” 44:39 – To what extent is the Catholic dogma of the Assumption of Mary a potential stumbling block to reunion with Eastern Orthodox churches? I have heard that they believe something similar, called the Dormition of Mary, but I don’t know if the belief is uniform among all Eastern Orthodox churches, or if it’s exactly the same as the Assumption. 47:59 – Why did God not give us a mortal sin (or Grace) detector so we can know with certitude what we did was deadly or venial or simply a vice? 51:00 – What if a person had no faith all its life, just refused to believe and then gets dementia or alzheimers is there still hope for them to get to heaven 52:32 – Can you please contrast the passage from Luke 1:28 where the Angel Gabriel addresses Mary with the greeting “Hail, full of grace,” with the passage from Acts 6:8 (also authored by Luke) where Stephen is described as “full of grace.” …
