Nalo A. K. Zidan is a Queer Black writer, organizer, and Trans-Masculinist whose work pushes at the normative boundaries of gender and sexuality. While completing her degree in Women's & Gender Studies at Louisiana State University, Zidan founded BlackGirlMasculine, a non-profit organization created to reimagine and complicate conversations around nuanced masculinities. For over six years, Zidan has been a noteworthy contributor to the academic and corporate dialogue on shaping safety in the workplace, LGBTQ+ rights, and building accountable masculinities. Along with being a 2019 TEDxLSU speaker, Zidan was a 2020 Masse/Remillard Gender & Sexuality Award recipient for her groundbreaking work on de-gendering masculinities in the human body. When she isn't expanding scholarship, Zidan shares most of her time with her partner and baby turtle Nalito in Detroit, Michigan. Zidan (all pronouns) is a Queer Black writer, organizer and Trans-Masculinist whose work pushes at the normative boundaries of gender and sexuality in Black experiences. Nalo is the Founder and Creative Director of BlackGirlMasculine, a nonprofit organization and media space for Queer, Black masculine-identified women, Trans and Non-Binary people. Founded in 2016, the organization serves a global audience with a mission to expand and archive non-normative masculine experiences. Born in Maryland and raised between New York and D.C., Nalo is currently completing a degree in Women, Gender and Sexuality studies at Louisiana State University, and is a 2019 TedxLSU speaker. Annemarie Galeucia runs operations for TEDxLSU. As an educator, she focuses on communications coaching and loves giving students the experience of running a TEDx. Her experience in high-stakes communications helps her mentor and prepare students for real jobs. TEDxLSU celebrates the ideas from Southern Louisiana, and she coaches students and speakers to translate these local ideas for a global audience. Their event in the LSU Union Theater peaks out at 1,200 people. She mentions that the people of Louisiana love to throw parties and TEDx is a great excuse to throw a big one. To improve communications, she strongly recommends that teams use SLACK to stay connected. She's a big fan of the TEDx Hub and has found many resources there that she shares with the larger team.
