We're bringing you an exclusive, unedited interview from our CityStories series, only on City+. We're going back to 1991 when a red card for goalkeeper Tony Coton meant striker Niall Quinn was forced to take his place. Up against Derby County who were on the brink of relegation, fan favourite Quinn had already scored an exquisite left-footed volley to give us the lead. However, Derby's Dean Saunders was soon through on goal before Coton was deemed to have brought him down. With our No.1 given his marching orders and no substitute goalkeeper, Quinn took Coton's shirt and gloves. The Ireland international's first duty between the sticks was to face up to the resulting penalty. Incredibly, he saved the shot at full stretch to turn it behind for a corner. It inspired us to a victory on the day and even went some way to earning Quinn the Player of the Year award for that season! We sat with Niall to look back at this incredible moment, his time at The Club and hear his goalkeeping experience before going between the sticks for City. Learn more about your ad choices. 'I hated playing on the wing. I absolutely hated it' – David BardsleyGraham Taylor's gradual evolution produced arguably the finest team of his ten year reign in 1986-87. Tony Coton was the best uncapped goalkeeper in the country. John McClelland led the defence with an understated sense of calm. Kevin Richardson added silk in midfield. John Barnes had developed into an international-class winger and Mark Falco and Luther Blissett formed a subtle version of the little-and-large strikeforces the manager liked so much. The team had a solid league campaign and made their way through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they faced Arsenal at Highbury. It was a fiery game that ended in controversy and left the Hornets just ninety minutes from a return trip to Wembley.Enjoy the game by Lionel Birnie. Read by Colin Mace. Produced by Jon Moonie. BE LUCKY. A PODCAST TRIBUTE TO OLIVER PHILLIPS. Welcome to a very special edition of From the Rookery End. In February, Watford Football Club lost one of the most important men in it's history. Oli Phillips covered more than 2,000 Hornets fixtures in his role at the Watford Observer, a career that spanned more than 40 years. This podcast is a tribute to Oli; a bona fide Watford legend. We hear from friends and colleagues of Oli, as well as two of the players that he'd regularly write about in such a memorable fashion; Tony Coton and John McClelland. As you'll hear, Oli was extremely well respected, both by those that knew him well, and those that pored over his very word, devouring his weekly work in the Watford Observer every Friday. Oliver Phillips will forever be a name synonymous with Watford Football Club. This is our small way of marking his quite extraordinary contribution to the club and the town. Be lucky. Current Manchester United Scout and former club goalkeeper Tony Coton joins the UTD Podcast this week. TC shared some great stories from his spells at Birmingham City and Watford - including a pre-season tour with Elton John! We breezed through his time at Manchester City to get to his stories of working with Sir Alex Ferguson as his goalkeeper and, later, as the club's first full-time goalkeeping coach. Tony worked with Peter Schmeichel before being tasked with finding his replacement. That eventually led to the arrival of Edwin van der Sar from Fulham and we heard all about how that transfer came about, climaxing in the Dutchman's heroics in Moscow to lift the 2008 Champions League trophy. Helen, Sam and Maysie also read out your emails at the end of the episode.
