Dee Curran sits down with former Derry City manager Tony O'Doherty to relive the unforgettable 1993-94 season. Taking over from Roy Coyle amid financial chaos, director resignations, and a rocky start, Tony became the “yellow pack” boss who guided a depleted squad to a top-six finish, a Bord Gáis Cup win, and an FAI Cup Final. From holding his first training session in The Park Bar, to tales of securing Peter Reid for a friendly, keeping Liam Coyle at the club, and stories with cameos of Luther Blissett, Neil McNabb, Kevin "Crack" McKeever and Glasgow Celtic legend, Bobby Lennox. This episode is packed with character, crisis, and classic City resilience.
The Blissett family name.If your name is Blissett, you're a striker and you're trying to make a name for yourself in football, there is no doubt conversation will quickly turn to the great Luther Blissett and that is exactly how life turned out for Nathan.Every new club he joined, every person he met, the second question to him was always ‘are you related to Luther?' and the answer, ‘yes.'Nathan grew up not knowing about his uncle Luther until he saw the name on Soccer AM in the early 2000s. When Nathan then turned his attentions to football, having an icon as your uncle was no bad thing. It wasn't the usual story into the game for Nate, but the help uncle Luther was able to provide meant he was able to extract every ounce of his ability and have a 12-year professional career.12 months of that was spent at Home Park where, although never holding down a first team spot, Nathan was a member of a promotion winning side and a scorer in a Devon Derby. This is not your usual footballer's tale; it is the story of Nathan Blissett.

'I hated playing on the wing. I absolutely hated it' – David BardsleyGraham Taylor's gradual evolution produced arguably the finest team of his ten year reign in 1986-87. Tony Coton was the best uncapped goalkeeper in the country. John McClelland led the defence with an understated sense of calm. Kevin Richardson added silk in midfield. John Barnes had developed into an international-class winger and Mark Falco and Luther Blissett formed a subtle version of the little-and-large strikeforces the manager liked so much. The team had a solid league campaign and made their way through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they faced Arsenal at Highbury. It was a fiery game that ended in controversy and left the Hornets just ninety minutes from a return trip to Wembley.Enjoy the game by Lionel Birnie. Read by Colin Mace. Produced by Jon Moonie. 'I looked out there on the pitch. They were just kids.'In autumn 1982, Watford embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. First stop was West Germany and a UEFA Cup first round date with Kaiserslautern. The squad was entering a transitional period. Luther Blissett, Ross Jenkins and Gerry Armstrong had all moved on. Some of the players who'd helped the club to the First Division were coming to the end and, to make matters worse, the Hornets suffered a lengthy injury crisis. And, with all the club's new signings ineligible for Europe, it meant that the team that represented Watford as they made their debut in European competition could almost pass as a reserve and youth side. After defeat in West Germany, it looked as if Watford's adventure would be over early...Enjoy the game by Lionel Birnie. 'We've asked Milan for a million pounds, so that should be the end of that'In the summer of 1983, Watford prepared to say farewell to their favourite son, as Luther Blissett headed to Milan. Blissett had been with the team since the Fourth Division days and had just topped the First Division goalscoring charts ahead of Liverpool's Ian Rush as the Hornets finished runners-up in the league. An offer of a million pounds was too good to refuse. This is the story of how the deal came about...Enjoy the game by Lionel Birnie. Read by Colin Mace. Produced by Jon Moonie. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This episode is a special 75th Windrush celebration. In the 1940's Britain was just starting to recover from World War II and needed rebuilding. And so, after the war, lots of these people came over to Britain to live and work. They got on a ship - the Empire Windrush - which left the Caribbean to travel thousands of miles across the Atlantic ocean. It was 22 June 1948 when the Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Docks in Essex. This was the first time so many Caribbean people had come to live in Britain. Many more arrived in the following 20 years. So now, on the 75th anniversary of the Empire windrush arriving on our shores, An estimated 500,000 people now living in the UK who arrived between 1948 and 1971 from Caribbean countries have been called the Windrush generation. In this special episode, talkSPORT's Mya Graham explores three different football related windrush stories. Luther Blissett, Darren Moore and Viv Anderson. Unique in their own way but all binded by their shared windrush link. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Luther Blissett is an English footballing legend, and one of the greatest players this country has ever produced, but the beautiful game isn't his only true love. Luther's other lifelong passion is cars. From his early days growing up in Willesden, Northwest London when he and his brother used to buy cars on the cheap, take them apart and rebuild them, Luther is an unapologetic petrolhead, especially when the mention of an electric future is raised! He's owned an eclectic collection of classics over the years, and talking of classics, Luther finally tells the story of the day he had that now infamous accident in a Morgan at the Silverstone Classic!
In this inaugural episode of The Left is Dead book club, Tyler and Jim get bogged down in the confusing first chapters of Q, by Luther Blissett. Sorry for any substance this episode is lacking, but keep following to hear Jim's take on the Anabaptists.
We're proud to announce we've chosen our first book worthy of launching the Left is Dead Book Club, the only book club where everyone gets pussy. Now you may be saying "what kind of amazing book is this that made Jim do work" or "Hey, isn't Jim busy getting pussy?". Well everyone, the answer to these questions and more is that we will be reading 'Q' by Luther Blissett. This is the book written by a collective of Italian satirists, anarchists, or something that was recently discussed on the HBO documentary about the QAnon movement. What relation it has to the Q of the Trump regime we have no idea but we'd like to invite you to try to find out with us. The new show will be recorded as audio and video starting with the review of Part One of the book (pages 1 to 153 in the Harcourt edition). Even more exciting however, is we will also allow listeners and viewers to watch live on our Facebook and Twitch as well as participate even more in the discussions live on Discord. Facebook: https://bit.ly/3f32dHo Twitch: https://bit.ly/3b64HDM For an invite to our Discord the latest reading with us, message us on Facebook, email theleftisdead420@gmail.com, or via our Twitter @TheLeftisDead1. The first discussion of the book will be on April 21st (a specific time will be announced later) so you have time to order a copy or a downloadable copy can be found here: https://bit.ly/3nVRgeI About the book: In 1517, Martin Luther nails his ninety-five theses to the door of Wittenberg Cathedral, and a dance of death begins between a radical Anabaptist with many names and a loyal papal spy known mysteriously as "Q." In this brilliantly conceived literary thriller set in the chaos of the Reformation-an age devastated by wars of religion-a young theology student adopts the cause of heretics and the disinherited and finds himself pursued by a relentless papal informer and heretic hunter. What begins as a personal struggle to reveal each other's identity becomes a mission that can only end in death.

Shaka Hislop and Alexis Nunes speak with former Watford forward Luther Blissett about dealing with racial abuse as a footballer, his experience playing in Italy with AC Milan, and the impact of players taking a knee before games begin.
In the latest edition of the official club podcast Golden Tales, Danny Graham talks in great depth about those two campaigns when everything he touched turned to gold. He scored 14 in his first season and then 27 in his second, which was the most by anyone in a Hornets shirt since Luther Blissett took the old Division One by storm in 1982/83.In a near 40-minute conversation, Graham says how he left Vicarage Road with a heavy heart and reveals the two other managers he spoke to before joining Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City. And, of course, he talks table tennis and that vest. Danny Graham only spent two seasons at Vicarage Road and wasn't part of a trophy-winning side or any sort of promotion bid. So it speaks volumes for the impact he had between the summers of 2009 and 2011 that he is a Hornets Ambassador alongside some of the club greats.

"Watford was the perfect club for me, because Watford was then a very disciplined club. I think it was the perfect club for any youngster - not just me. He scored a hat trick on his full England debut at Wembley, played more than 500 games for Watford FC and is the club's all-time greatest goal scorer, but that didn't stop Luther Blissett regularly receiving racial abuse from the terraces as a young player in the seventies and eighties. As we celebrate black history month, Luther opens up to Mark Clemmit about how bad things were, and why it's so important to continue the conversation about racism in football now and in the future. Wimbledon director Ivor Heller has forfeited everything for his beloved club and looks forward to next week's triumphant return to Plough Lane, and Leyton Orient skipper Jobi McAnuff joins Clem to preview the key fixtures this weekend across all 3 divisions of the EFL.

Host Jon Marks is joined by club captain Troy Deeney, goalkeeping coach Graham Stack, WFC record goal scorer Luther Blissett and club media consultant and lifelong Hornets fan Kevin Affleck. On a day riddled with ridiculous weather, Cherries fans "hailed" Jefferson Lerma and Joshua King for giving Cherries a slim advantage at Dean Court before Chelsea's Marcus Alonso made the game all-square with a late sickener, giving both teams a share of the spoils - with each side believing that they possibly should have had more. In this podcast Sam Davis is joined by Jeff Hayward to dissect the match against Chelsea, one which feels like a point well made, but with other results going very much against us at the weekend, Eddie Howe's charges are sitting in the relegation zone on goal difference. Watford's astounding defeat of Liverpool means that we sit in 18th, but with winnable matches ahead, fans and management are still upbeat about our chances this season. That said, next we travel to Anfield, and the boys discuss the Reds recent dip, and wonder what kind of reaction we'll be faced with against Liverpool, in a fixture that will be incredibly difficult to earn anything from. We also remind you about the forthcoming Cherries Legends Live event at the Village Hotel in Bournemouth, as we look forward to an evening with Steve Jones, Paul Morrell and Luther Blissett!

Cherries went down 2-1 at home to Arsenal in the Cup on Monday night, evidently with half an eye on the more substantial "cup tie" at the weekend against Aston Villa in the Premier League. Six changes were made and it was a below par AFC Bournemouth who somehow flattered themselves by producing a scoreline which, to the naked eye, suggests the contest was closer than it was. Eddie will see the two most recent games as a learning curve, where we need to take the best out of the Brighton performance, leaving the worst of the Arsenal game behind, and in this podcast we cover both of our latest home fixtures in league and cup, with Neil Dawson covering the scenes against the Seagulls, and Jeff Hayward getting involved for the Gunners game. As well the comprehensive match chats, we also take in some of your thoughts from both games too, whilst including some rather raw match audio which contains the odd F bomb - the excitement of seeing Callum score was just way too much! Along with the usual Do You Remember trivia, we also preview the Aston Villa game on Saturday, where home fans will be hoping for and expecting nothing less than a win, in a crucial fixture which could once again be season-defining! Shoehorned into this bumper hour long pod is a chat with Scott Charlton and Dave Fitzgerald from Lashings, who are running a unique AFCB themed event on April 2nd 2020 at the Village Hotel in Bournemouth - featuring stars of Cherries past including Luther Blissett, Paul Morrell, and Steve Jones - who are all going to be sharing THEIR stories of their careers in football, especially at Bournemouth - as well as giving their thoughts on the latest goings on at Dean Court.
