In this special episode of Upon Further Review Podcast, Cody Kitchen and Dr. John Hall sit down with longtime Field Street Baptist Church member Tanner Tilton for one of the most heartfelt and entertaining conversations the podcast has had. From violin music and cattle work to prayer meetings, popcorn ministry, and baseball stories, Tanner's sincerity and joy shine through the entire episode.Along the way, listeners hear stories about Tanner's baptism, his attempt to baptize the family cat, his nightly violin practice sessions, his legendary collection of box fans, and the unforgettable church camp melatonin story that longtime listeners may already remember. More than anything, though, this episode is a reminder of the beauty of faithful church life and the joy that comes from loving people well.Tanner's love for Jesus, his church family, and his service to others is evident throughout the conversation. It's funny, wholesome, and deeply encouraging all at once.

A conversation with one of our farmer/writers on how immigration enforcement is playing out in Minneapolis and its effect on farms with Sam Oschwald Tilton

In this bonus episode of the Growing for Market Podcast, we hear from long-time GFM writer, farmer and Minneapolis resident Sam Oschwald Tilton about how immigration enforcement is playing out in Minneapolis. In an industry with an estimated 40% of workers undocumented, the way immigration laws are enforced probably has a bigger impact on farming than any other industry. Many farmworkers with legal status- for example those on H-2A, refugee, asylum or H-2B visas- have been detained in the current immigration enforcement.  The fact that even documented workers are being detained is disrupting both farms and families as workers wonder if their documentation can be relied upon and farm employers wonder if their employees will show up for work. We connected two articles from Growing for Market Magazine about the H-2A visa process below as both a resource for farmers and an example for how the expansion of the guestworker program could provide a framework for foreign-born workers to legally meet the demand for farmworkers in the United States.  Related articles: Article: Demystifying the H-2A program from Growing for Market Magazine Article: Navigating the H-2A guestworker visa program from Growing for Market Magazine

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Superfund Research Program (SRP) is hosting a Risk e-Learning webinar series focused on the use of innovative, human-relevant technologies to better characterize the biological effects of chemicals. New technologies, including advanced cell-based assays, organoids, and computational modeling approaches, are expanding the toolbox researchers use to answer previously difficult or unanswerable questions. Presenters will discuss how these emerging methodologies are being applied to uncover mechanistic insights, improve predictive accuracy for human health outcomes, and refine risk assessment frameworks. The second session, titled 3D Models and Technologies to Illuminate Biological Effects of Contaminants, will feature three speakers discussing 3D models and other technologies to better understand how contaminants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and endocrine-disrupting compounds affect DNA, placental function, and asthma. Speakers include: Stephen Ferguson, Ph.D., NIEHS Division of Translational Toxicology: This presentation will describe active NIEHS/DTT research to develop and innovatively apply microphysiological systems (MPS) to understand PFAS bioaccumulation and toxicity potential in context with human drugs. Research highlights from a recent publication in Environmental Science & Technology (PMID: 39893674) will be provided along with future considerations and strategies for modeling toxicological phenotypes and interindividual susceptibility with MPS. Susan Tilton, Ph.D., Oregon State University: Critical data gaps exist regarding toxicity of the broader class of structurally diverse, substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the ways in which PAHs contribute to toxicity of mixtures for effective evaluation of human health risk. Dr. Tilton will discuss how the development and application of 3D lung cell models can be used to understand risk for toxicity after inhalation exposure in susceptible individuals, as well as efforts to develop a dosimetry model to improve extrapolation and risk assessment from in vitro systems. Arum Han, Ph.D., Texas A&M University: Dr. Han will introduce microphysiological systems (MPS) of the feto-maternal interface that mimics the structure and functions of the multi-cellular layers in these fetal membrane and placental interfaces, and show how they can be used to provide better mechanistic understanding on how environmental toxicants may contribute to preterm birth risk. He will also discuss the latest engineering advancements in making these MPS models into higher throughput more automatically operated models to increase the usability and adoptability of these new approach methods (NAMs). To learn more about and register for the other sessions in this webinar series, please see the SRP site. George Washington Cable. “Café des Exiles.” An antiquated story-and-a-half Creole cottage sitting right down on the banquette, as do the Choctaw squaws who sell bay and sassafras and life-everlasting, with a high, close board-fence shutting out of view the diminutive garden on the southern side. An ancient willow droops over the roof of round tiles, and partly hides the discolored stucco, which keeps dropping off into the garden as though the old café was stripping for the plunge into oblivion — disrobing for its execution. I see, well up in the angle of the broad side gable, shaded by its rude awning of clapboards, as the eyes of an old dame are shaded by her wrinkled hand, the window of Pauline. Oh for the image of the maiden, were it but for one moment, leaning out of the casement to hang her mocking-bird and looking down into the garden, — where, above the barrier of old boards, I see the top of the fig-tree, the pale green clump of bananas, the tall palmetto with its jagged crown, Pauline's own two orange-trees holding up their hands toward the window, heavy with the promises of autumn; the broad, crimson mass of the many-stemmed oleander, and the crisp boughs of the pomegranate loaded with freckled apples, and with here and there a lingering scarlet blossom. Jean Étienne de Boré (December 27, 1741 – February 1, 1820) was the first Mayor of New Orleans. His wife, Marie Marguerite d'Estrehan, came from one of the most prominent families of colonial Louisiana; her father, Jean Baptiste d'Estrehan, was the Royal Treasurer of French Louisiana. Etienne owned a plantation a few miles above the City of New Orleans. There he had originally cultivated indigo. But when this product lost its market as a result of competition from Guatemala, he turned his attention to the manufacture of sugar. On his estate he set up a sugar mill and there, in 1795, had, with the aid of two Cubans, Mendez and Lopez, succeeded in producing the first granulated sugar ever known in the colony, with the result that agriculture was completely revolutionized. He was appointed mayor by Governor William C. C. Claiborne in 1803; he resigned to look after his personal affairs the following year. He died at around 80 years old, and is buried in New Orleans' Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1. One of his daughters was the mother of Louisiana historian Charles Gayarré. This week in Louisiana. If you're anything like us you always want to do everything possible to help your neuro patients recover and improve as much as possible. On today's show host Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS interviews Rose Tilton, OTR/L, OTD about an intervention that she took straight from the research to the clinic: spinal cord stimulation with transcutaneous stimulation. After learning about its applicability in the literature Rose was eager to use it with her patients but hit some road blocks. Finally she was in touch with the authors of a study who helped her and her colleagues become trained in using transcutaneous spinal stimulation on people with spinal cord injury. The clinicians found the intervention was not only simple to do but also very effective for maximizing outcomes in upper extremity rehab, lower extremity rehab, trunk control for balance, bowel and bladder and even sexual function. In today's episode Rose breaks down exactly what you need to know in order to start using this intervention with your patients today using equipment you already have!   Gain clinical insights that will spark your curiosity to learn more in this episode. While you'll learn exactly what to do, best practice dictates that you do additional research to ensure you have competency and clearance from your clinical state practice act to perform this intervention. Rose encourages therapists to stay curious, reach out to researchers, and be proactive in exploring new interventions that could transform patient outcomes.
