Steve McClaren has lived the full arc of elite football, from the immense pressure of managing England to lifting trophies in Europe and standing alongside Sir Alex Ferguson during Manchester United's historic Treble campaign. In this episode, Steve takes us inside the uniquely brutal world of the England job and World Cup expectation, describing the psychological weight of carrying 70 million people on your shoulders and breaking down the volatile mix of camp chemistry, player fitness, and sheer luck required to win the 2026 World Cup.The conversation shifts to the blueprint of a modern rebuild, analysing the early signs of structural alignment at Manchester United under INEOS. Drawing from a lifetime of experience, Steve explains why tactics and staff are fundamentally useless unless the entire hierarchy of a football club is pulling in the exact same direction. He also shares what he learned inside Ferguson's machine, from total trust in his staff to a relentless hunger that reset the standard the morning after the Treble. This is a conversation about pressure, standards and what it really takes to build sustained success at the very top of the game.Steve McClaren has joined Rotherham FC as Head of Football https://www.themillers.co.uk/Postcode Lottery
Rio is joined by Ste Howson and Joel Beya to react to the end of the Premier League season - including why Bruno Fernandes deserves to be Player of the Year and why Rio believes his numbers alongside better attacking players next season could be “a madness”.The trio also discuss Michael Carrick's future at Manchester United, the scale of the rebuild still needed at Old Trafford and whether signing Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer would actually make sense for the club.Arsenal's title-winning season is another obvious talking point, with Rio insisting Mikel Arteta deserves enormous credit for surviving years of criticism and finally ending Manchester City's dominance. There's also a brilliant debate around Pep Guardiola's legacy and why Rio still believes Sir Alex Ferguson remains the greatest manager of all time.Plus the lads hand out their end-of-season awards, react to Aston Villa's guard of honour - Rio says why Mohamed Salah showed exactly how those moments should be handled and there's some hints about some huge plans for the summer and the World Cup. Fiery Fridays is back, and in today's episode, Adrian Durham explains why he believes Mikel Arteta should win a title by playing with style. Crooky makes the case that Pep Guardiola is not in Sir Alex Ferguson's league, while Angelina Kelly thinks Xabi Alonso's Chelsea will finish above Liverpool and Man City next season. As you know by now, every Friday, it's all about bold opinions, strong feelings, and arguments just waiting to happen. Because as the week winds down, we're turning the heat all the way up… that's another three HUGE opinions… no sitting on the fence… and absolutely no fear of things getting a little heated. It's another episode you do not want to miss! It was not done!
After the journey from the training ground where Casemiro discussed his career before joining Manchester United, on their arrival at Old Trafford, him and Rio discuss everything about his time in Manchester whilst sitting in the Stretford End and paying tribute to the supporters. From dealing with “disrespectful” comments from pundits to helping younger players like Kobbie Mainoo through difficult times, nothing is off limits here as Casemiro opens up and surprises Rio even more. The pair discuss the big moments like winning the Carabao Cup but also the difficult times Casemiro faced when he was out of the team - along with what's actually required from players to be able to cope in those scenarios. There is a huge amount of praise for Michael Carrick - how Casemiro describes the way he operates reminds the Brazilian of Ancelotti and Rio of Sir Alex Ferguson! This is an interview like no other - enjoy seeing a different side to the player that is worshipped from the seats they're sitting in. Tam McManus believes if Hearts win the Premiership, it will surpass the achievements of Sir Alex Ferguson's title-winning Dons side because of the financial disparity in today's game.
Carlos Bocanegra joins Jason Longshore to talk about Atlanta FC, his new boutique youth club built on a model American youth soccer rarely sees: one team per age group, one dedicated coach per team, and a family-first environment where parents get the training session plan after every practice and are welcome at team talks. Bocanegra talks about why he stopped playing soccer for nine months in high school because of a bad coaching experience, why the late bloomer is the player most at risk in the current system, and what he hopes Atlanta FC can do to start changing the culture of youth development nationally. Jason adds context on the staff: Liam Curran, nine years at Atlanta United and currently working with U.S. Youth National Teams, as Director of Goalkeeping, and Dr. Ryan Alexander, founding High Performance Director at Atlanta United, in the same role at Atlanta FC. Tryouts are May 18 through 20 at Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven. More at atlantafootballclub.com. Then it's What's On Tap, sponsored by Michelob Ultra, official beer sponsor of FIFA World Cup 26. Arsenal are going to Budapest for their first Champions League final in 20 years. Jason breaks down the most statistically dominant European campaign any English club has put together in the modern format, what Mikel Arteta has had to manage to get there, and why dismissing the PSG-Bayern first leg as poorly defended is the wrong take entirely. Preview of tomorrow's second leg in Munich, where Bayern need two goals and both managers have said neither team is coming to defend. The 3-4-3, brought to you by Ford, closes the show. Local stories cover the AU2 road win over Carolina Core, the full boys high school quarterfinal bracket with all four classifications, and the girls semifinal picture including Model's 6-0 win in Rome with Emily Gentry's first-half hat trick. Four headlines: Arsenal's Premier League title door opens wider after City drop points against Everton, the Neymar assault allegation at Santos involving Robinho Jr., Mourinho extension talks accelerating at Benfica with Real Madrid circling and a ten-day release clause window approaching, and Hearts three points clear of Celtic with three matches left chasing the first Scottish title by a club outside the Old Firm since Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen in 1985. Three smile stories: the Rosario Central dog who turned out to belong to a Newell's Old Boys family, Cooper Sanchez getting better every single match and deserving national attention he is not getting, and the crowd in Rome for Model's state quarterfinal win.

Anderson sits down with Rio Ferdinand for one of the most honest and unexpected Rio Meets yet — a story that goes far beyond football and one that's been requested by thousands of you for many years. From leaving home at 11 and living in a football stadium without any parents, to becoming a Golden Boy winner and signing for Manchester United via Jorge Mendes, Anderson opens up on the reality behind the journey - including why money, not passion, drove his early international career. He reveals what it was really like living with Cristiano Ronaldo - from brotherly support to full-blown arguments, mind games over ping pong matches and being sent to do the weekly Costco shop. Plus, why Ronaldo's obsession with winning left a lasting mark… and why Anderson believes just “5%” of that mentality would have changed his entire career. There are incredible stories from what he described as “the greatest dressing room in football” - including why Ryan Giggs pushed him to take a Champions League final penalty, the moment his life flashed before his eyes walking to the spot, and how legends like Paul Scholes and Sir Alex Ferguson shaped him (even if he couldn't understand a word the manager was saying).Anderson also lifts the lid on the personalities inside that iconic United squad - from naming his dog after Wes Brown, to clashes with Cesc Fàbregas, dressing room chaos with Nani, and why that team's togetherness made them the best he ever played in.Plus, his honest take on modern football - including why Bruno Fernandes has carried United in recent years, why Michael Carrick deserves more respect, and why Neymar is still Brazil's key to winning the World Cup.This is Anderson like you've never seen him before - raw, funny, emotional and completely unfiltered. In this episode of The Joy of Football Podcast, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett break down a huge week in football - from FA Cup semi-finals and Chelsea's ongoing struggles to the deeper issues shaping the modern game. The episode opens with a brand new segment, One Week, reflecting on a dramatic run of fixtures including Chelsea's turbulent performances against Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United. From a damaging defeat at Brighton to a much-improved display at Wembley, the conversation dives into the inconsistency at Chelsea - with players like Levi Colwill, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori referenced as part of a wider discussion around standards, effort, and identity at Stamford Bridge. There's also discussion around fan unrest at Chelsea, with chants referencing Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, and even Roman Abramovich, highlighting the growing disconnect between supporters and ownership during a difficult period for the club. In Letter from the Gantry, Martin reflects on FA Cup semi-final history - from Southampton's brave performance against Manchester City to unforgettable moments involving clubs like Coventry City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Oldham Athletic. Legendary names, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger, Ryan Giggs, Dennis Bergkamp, and Mark Robins, all feature in a rich look at football history and why semi-final losers should never be forgotten. The Voice of Passion segment delivers a powerful take on how modern football clubs are run, using Chelsea as the central example. Neil questions the current structure involving owners, sporting directors, and head coaches, arguing that the traditional manager, in the mould of Sir Alex Ferguson or José Mourinho, should still be the central figure. Pep Guardiola is also discussed, with his control at Manchester City highlighted as a model of how elite football leadership should function. In Three of the Best, attention turns to standout individuals across the game. Young goalkeeper Senne Lammens (linked with Manchester United) is highlighted alongside Sunderland's Anthony Patterson, while experienced players like Callum Wilson and Pascal Groß are praised for their quality and intelligence. There's also recognition for Ollie Pearce and Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina, whose performances continue to grow in importance. The episode also touches on major names across world football, including Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, and Ivan Toney, as well as discussions around international football, the World Cup, and elite-level performance. From Chelsea's identity crisis and Brighton's dominance to Pep Guardiola's influence, Manchester City's consistency, and the enduring magic of the FA Cup, this episode is packed with insight, debate, and storytelling from across the football world.
