We're bringing you an exclusive, unedited interview from our CityStories series, only on City+. We're going back to 1991 when a red card for goalkeeper Tony Coton meant striker Niall Quinn was forced to take his place. Up against Derby County who were on the brink of relegation, fan favourite Quinn had already scored an exquisite left-footed volley to give us the lead. However, Derby's Dean Saunders was soon through on goal before Coton was deemed to have brought him down. With our No.1 given his marching orders and no substitute goalkeeper, Quinn took Coton's shirt and gloves. The Ireland international's first duty between the sticks was to face up to the resulting penalty. Incredibly, he saved the shot at full stretch to turn it behind for a corner. It inspired us to a victory on the day and even went some way to earning Quinn the Player of the Year award for that season! We sat with Niall to look back at this incredible moment, his time at The Club and hear his goalkeeping experience before going between the sticks for City. Learn more about your ad choices.
