He starts with the twelve men chosen to go and spy out the land to bring back a report, among whom were Joshua and Caleb. Instead of one report there were two. Ten of the men brought back an bad report of distress, fear and hopelessness. They declared emphatically that they "were not able." It caused all the people to become upset. While Joshua and Caleb strongly stated another report saying, "We are well able." The story culminates into decades of warring, fighting and taking the land. Until a day of appointment came for Caleb in his old age. Fred brings to glowing light, the beautiful heart of Caleb. Adding deeper-than-the-surface, thoughts that make us to see something deeper. That Caleb knew he had a destiny from when he stood on the shores of the brook Eschol. Thirty eight years later, it came into Caleb's heart that it was time to take part in a portion of that promised land. He powerfully stated that he wholly followed the Lord His God, and remembered the words spoken to them by Moses. He asked for the mountain that his heart desired, and it was granted unto him. Perhaps this word will cause you to see that though the way has been long, and you have been tempted to fall down. Though your environment may war against you, and opposition is fierce, as long as your heart has kept His word of promise, the mountain will be yours after all. You have a destiny in your journey and a purpose in God. I was immensely blessed personally by this message still resonating in my heart. It will resonate in yours as well. While Joshua was wondering how the Lord was directing him in to conquer Jericho, he suddenly encountered the Commander of the Lord's army. This being was the voice of YHWH. We refer to Him as a Christophany. That is to say Jesus before His incarnation. The battle plan was odd, to say the least, but Joshua did what we should do. He obeyed. The pattern is to get God's direction and do it regardless of how impracticable it seems.

He Has a Name 5 HEALED RECAP What Jesus calls us defines our purpose, what we call God defines our worship! Romans 12:1-2 Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Call on the name of the lord = worship Definition: “actual release of power so that the accomplishment is assured.” He is the only God that has the ability to BE and it IS. ___________________________________________ We can’t worship a God we don’t know! ___________________________________________ Yahweh Nissi and Rapha Yahweh Nissi means “The Lord Is My Banner” Under whose name and reputation I choose to live. Whose character and principles I will align my life. This is the name of God that proclaims His protection, leadership, and deliverance for His people. Just as God brought divine protection for the Israelites against their enemy, the Amalekites, He offers us protection and deliverance today from the enemies we may face in this life. While Joshua and the people fought against their enemy, Moses stood on top of a hill with God’s staff in his hands. The Bible tells the story that even though Moses grew weary, when his hands were lifted by those who supported him, the Israelites were winning, and when his hands lowered the Amalekites were winning. It was clear to all who gave them victory that day. Sometimes we spin our wheels trying to battle through our hard days in our own strength. We get weary, we get upset, we get angry, and we end up losing it. God’s reminder is to all Him to be our banner, our protector, that One that is able to lead us and give us supernatural victory against forces and obstacles that come against us. If we allow Him to be in control, He will do more on our behalf, than would ever be possible on our own. “Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.” Exodus 17:15 [1] HEALING - BRINGS DELIVERANCE FROM… LIVING UNDER HIS BANNER (NISSI), BY HIS PRINCIPALS BRINGS HEALING (RAPHA) Jehovah Rapha Jehovah Rapha means "Healer, the Lord who heals you” This name brings so much comfort and hope to many of us who have prayed for healing and deliverance from disease, illness, brokenness, or painful circumstances. It reminds us that God knows we’re in need of help, He understands we’re in need of healing, and He promises to redeem every broken place in our lives.  He never leaves us on our own to fend for ourselves. Without Him we couldn’t have hope for true freedom and healing, but just as God brought miraculous deliverance from all types diseases and difficulties throughout His word, He promises to act on behalf of His people still today. Sometimes the healing doesn’t come in the timetable or way that we would choose, and that can be hard. But as believers we still have this hope and assurance: we will live forever free in heaven, far away from the burdens we’ve carried here in this life. Jesus promises to make all things new, and God will wipe away every tear. He said, "If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you." - Exodus 15:26 [2] God is a global healer. His touch is thorough, deep and complete and leaves no part of us unaffected. Our worship of Him and obedience to His ways exposes us to a cause and effect on a Divine scale. A single act of obedience sets off a chain reaction of supernatural interventions in multiple areas of our lives. Proximity to God is what calls who he is into our moment. While Joshua had the promise of God’s deliverance, he had not been given detailed instructions on just how God would accomplish his plans and defeat the enemies they would face. What resources has God given you as you wait and trust in Him moving forward – join us to find out!

Full Circle - a journey into the unfolding Bible story

Now the people have seasons of war and seasons of peace. While Joshua was alive he sorted disputes among the people. Before he dies he gathers the people to remind them of God's laws, he warns that the people will turn to other gods and loose their inheritance. But, like previous generations, the people promise not to serve other Gods. 5 warlords remain in the land along with their altars and places of worship to idols.

Joshua and his wife Joanna grew up in families of mixed religious expressions. After serving in mission hospitals in West Africa, they then moved into international leadership of Serving in Mission. Joshua is Serving in Mission’s first non-western international leader. At Joshua’s induction into the role, Gideon Para-Mallam, who is the IFES Regional Secretary, said: "Just about 120 years after three pioneer SIM missionaries set foot on African soil, God has chosen a Nigerian to be the first non-Western International Director to lead Serving in Mission. This is to be highly commended for its bold statement of the future direction of the global mission movement."

Season 2, Episode 43 - In Memory of Joshua Casteel (Dec. 1979-Aug. 2012) Tommy and I are honored to present this special episode in memory of the life of Joshua Casteel. Joshua was a classmate of ours at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We're honored to have Joshua's mother, Kristi Casteel, join us on The Curiosity Hour Podcast to talk to us about her son's life. Joshua Casteel was a United States Army soldier, conscientious objector, writer, playwright, and divinity student. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in a Christian Evangelical family to parents Rick and Kristi Casteel. While Joshua displayed early interest and skills in various arenas, including sports, music, theater, writing, and academics he chose to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father by attending West Point Military Academy. From his first experience with military life, questions began to surface as to whether he was ‘a fit' for military life and philosophy. After much deliberation, he realized he decided he needed to leave West Point. He enrolled at the University of Iowa and graduated with honors with a multidisciplinary major in Literature and the Arts with an emphasis in Philosophy. After 9-11, he felt he was constrained to fulfill his initial military commitment. He served with the Army's 202nd Defense Battalion as an interrogator at the Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq, arriving six weeks after revelation of prisoner abuses by US personnel at the prison. After spending six months in Iraq and experiencing the realities of war and violence first hand, all the while struggling with the ethical and theological questions pertaining to his job and identity as a Christian soldier his military career finally came to an end. Years of study, counsel, prayer, and first hand experience ultimately led him to apply for conscientious objector. The Army approved his application and granted him an honorable discharge in 2005. Joshua went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 2008 with a dual Master of Fine Arts Degree in playwriting and non-fiction writing. He was an active member of Iraq Veterans Against the War and the author of several plays performed in the US and abroad, including Returns and The Interrogation Room. His play will be performed as an opera in the UK in 2018. During the seven years between his return from Iraq and his death, he was featured writer for several magazines and a public speaker on religious and political matters around the world. He was featured in the documentary films Iraq For Sale: War Profiteers and Soldiers of Conscience. Excerpts of Casteel's emails from Iraq were published in Harper's Magazine and in book form by Essay Press, entitled Letters From Abu Ghraib. A second edition was published by Wipf and Stock Publishing in July, 2017. Prior to his death Joshua was at work on his memoir entitled, No Graven Image. He was attending the Divinity School at the University of Chicago at the time of his diagnosis. Before he died he was honored for his work towards justice and peace. Joshua died of lung cancer in New York City in New York Presbyterian Hospital on August 25, 2012. The Joshua Casteel Foundation was formed to carry on his legacy of nonviolence, working towards peace, justice and reconciliation in the world in ways that respect and honor the value of human life. Often, when new leaders take over, they seek to make an immediate impact, demonstrating their leadership and their control. Joshua has no need to worry about such things; as God’s chosen leader, God will make his impact for him. While Joshua 1 demonstrated to Joshua that God was with him, God will make it obvious to everyone in Joshua 2-5:12. In these chapters we see God prove that he will be with both Israel and Joshua just as he was with Moses (3:7).

Part 5. Ahead of the Israelites lay Jericho. It wasn't the only fortified city in the Promised Land, but it was the first they had to face. While Joshua was making battle plans, the Commander of the Army of the LORD appeared and gave him God's battle plan. Though it sounded strange, the battle was won. The plan for Jericho, though, was for single use only. It was never used again. Sometimes we get distracted by the makings of the miracle victory at Jericho that we forget the true key to victory. The Jericho Method is not what we often make it to be.
