Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas on October 14, 1890, the third of seven sons of David and Ida Eisenhower. Not long after Dwight's birth, the family moved to Abilene, Kansas where he grew up. Dwight later attended West Point Military Academy, graduating in 1915 and soon after met Mamie Doud, who would become the love of his life. The two would be married for over fifty years. Eisenhower rose to fame during World War II as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, leading the successful D-Day invasion that played a significant role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. In 1952, he was elected the 34th President of the United States. Eisenhower's presidency focused on improving the nation's infrastructure and was also marked by efforts to contain the spread of communism during the Cold War while maintaining peace and stability on the international stage. One of his initiatives, was the creation of the People to People International program, which he established in 1956 to improve understanding and friendship between citizens of different countries through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities. In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with Mary Jean Eisenhower, youngest grandchild of Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower. Mary Jean will share her memories of playing as a child in the White House, spending personal moments with her grandparents and meeting World leaders such as French President, Charles de Gaulle and Premier of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev. Lieutenant Colonel Ali W. Palmer was an Army Engineer officer with a professional career that spans 25 years in a variety of experiences to include military, government, private, non-profit and higher education. A 1997 graduate of West Point Military Academy, he soon after completed Airborne and Ranger training and was stationed in Germany where he deployed to the Balkan region three times. Ali spent the next nine years in multiple command and staff responsibilities in the Army including: basic training company command, battalion operations officer, and General's Aide for the Army Corps of Engineers division in Baghdad, IRAQ – earning Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for life-saving actions under fire. Ali left military service in 2006 to pursue an MBA from Harvard Business School and spent the next six years in healthcare, finance, leadership development and facilities engineering. During that time, he was active in his Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and served as a Congressional Nomination Committee Member. In 2013, he started his first company – LIFECON, LLC where he designs and delivers executive leadership coaching to corporate, nonprofit and university senior leaders. In 2014, Ali re-entered the military in the Army Reserves, was promoted to Major in 2016 and recently to Lieutenant Colonel – a full year ahead of schedule. He most recently served as Operations Officer for the Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic COVID and Hurricane Response Teams. In 2019, he launched another startup – Royal Technology & Agriculture, a cutting-edge agriculture technology firm providing quality assurance & consulting solutions to a myriad of farmers, brands, retailers and agribusinesses nationwide. Ali is also adjunct faculty at Battlefield Leadership and the Intrepid Leadership Group – two premier corporate leader development companies. He's a member of the US Army Ranger Association, sits on multiple boards, speaks three languages, and is a Certified Engineer in the State of NY.

In May 1962, an intimidating figure delivered a final public speech at West Point Military Academy. Douglas MacArthur, who led America to victory in the Pacific during World War 2, addressed cadets. He told them simple truths, ones that define honor and glory. The hall was completely still as the old general spoke in hushed tones. Everyone heard him speak of the honorable soldier who must rely on “those divine attributes which his Maker gave when He created man in His own image.” Here was perhaps the most legendary military man in the country in the 20th century, and despite his personal awards and recognition, he humbled himself to acknowledge the One who deserves all our honor and glory. Psalm 115:1 tells us, “Not to us, LORD, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” The name of Christ is the one that leads us to final victory. MacArthur spoke to those cadets of the American tradition of seeing things through to complete and decisive victory. The Bible tells us we are soldiers in Christ's army. We are standing on the most important battlefield in all of history. Our mandate is to share the Good News of Jesus, so that individuals live for eternity with their Creator. Let us glory in that. Let's pray. Lord, you are our deliverer and the victor. We honor you with our worship, and with our eternal thanks. In Jesus' name, amen.

Kyle Vowinkel dedicated 33 years of service to his country as an FBI Special Agent, U.S. Army officer, and West Point graduate. He has significant leadership experience as an FBI senior executive who served at multiple FBI offices and retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) in Miami.Prior to ASAC, he served on two unique U.S. national assets – the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and the U.S. government's negotiation arm, the Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU). The FBI sent him to over twenty countries, including China, Qatar, Kenya, South Korea, and Peru. He deployed as a tactical operator on HRT on hundreds of high-risk missions domestically as well as overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. At CNU he negotiated with kidnappers, pirates, and terrorists. He has deployed to several high-profile situations, including the Boston Marathon bomber, where he convinced him to give up peacefully. Laurie Carter, Dean of the School of the Arts and School of Humanities at Susquehanna University, shared the story behind her title with us on December 21, 2023.Laurie is a nationally recognized author. In this episode of Bourbon With Friends. The BWF team sits down with Country Music Artist and Veteran Ryan Weaver. Ryan's personal story is like no other artist in country music today. Growing up with a family of eleven in a small town in Floral City, Florida, he joined the Army right after high school. After several years of working as a Military Intelligence Analyst, Ryan followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers, Steve and Aaron, by attending Warrant Officer Candidate School and flight school. He graduated top of his class in flight school, becoming a Black Hawk Aviator. In April 2003, he deployed to Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. Shortly after, one of his brothers, Aaron, was deployed just west of him in Fallujah.On January 8, 2004, Aaron was killed in action when the Medivac helicopter he was a passenger in was shot down by enemy fire. Ryan certainly understood mortality and the risks of combat… After all, Aaron had survived the bloody 1993 battle in Mogadishu, Somalia – the same battle that became the basis for the movie, Black Hawk Down. When Aaron died, however, something changed for Ryan. He returned from combat, taking a new position training the next generation of Army aviators and officers at Fort Rucker, Alabama and has not piloted a Black Hawk since that fateful day. On December 17, 2013 Ryan's brother-in-law, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Randy Billings, was killed in action in Afghanistan when the Black Hawk helicopter he was piloting was shot down by an enemy ground-detonated explosive device. This second heartbreaking loss made the Weaver family a two-time Gold Star family. Both of his brothers' ultimate sacrifices continue to fuel Ryan's fire to accomplish his dreams in music.In late 2016, Ryan released the music video for his single “Burn,” featuring Kris “Tanto” Paranto and John “Tig” Tiegen from the movie 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. “Burn” aired nationwide on The Country Network and Heartland, and internationally at over 5,000 retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues throughout the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017. Ryan's first music video “Crank It” played nationally on ZUUS Country TV and TNN/Heartland Network and spent 8 weeks on their Top 10 Video Countdown – a network record. In 2017, Ryan was named the Patriotic Voice of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) for their Celebrate America Campaign. The World Finals is the biggest global stage in professional bull riding – a booming sport now seen in more than 400 million homes worldwide. The Celebrate America Campaign is a season-long initiative that honors America's heroes, inspires youth, and brings communities together. Weaver made his debut in the primetime performance slot, which was previously held by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler in 2016. At that time, the PBR officially launched Ryan as a PBR artist and debuted his new EP entitled Celebrate America. Ryan worked closely with hit songwriter Wynn Varble on the Celebrate America EP, co-writing three of the four songs. He has toured the U.S. and internationally to Australia with the PBR in 2018 and 2019, performing his songs and singing the “National Anthem” at US events. He has several performances scheduled in Australia this year. Ryan performed on the first single from the West Point Military Academy's Benny Havens Band's debut album Songs That Save Our Lives. The song was short-listed for GRAMMY Award consideration in the American Roots category. The album also featured Charlie Daniels.
