FIRED UP (on the Blockchain) with Travie | Web3, NFT's Blockchain, Tech, Music, Art
Travie chats with Yesod Williams, drummer of Pepper - one of the most successful and acclaimed bands in the "reggae-rock" genre. Pepper is a three-piece reggae-rock band originally from Kona, Hawaii, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Kaleo Wassman, vocalist/bassist Bret Bollinger, and drummer Yesod Williams. They discuss what it was like to carry the torch left by Sublime and continue to light the way for so many other musicians. They discuss how Pepper's album Kona Town, celebrating its 20th anniversary, may never have happened without a little help from some friends and the ability to keep working when nobody was watching. Yesod talks about the early days playing to empty crowds on Warped Tour, to starting their own record label (LAW Records), to now being known and respected by everyone who comes through the scene. They also touch on the emerging AI technology wave and how the Blockchain may actually be a saving grace for all musicians. All this and more as Travie and Yesod get FIRED UP! Drummer Yesod Williams of the reggae infused Kona-dub rock band Pepper comes on the show to share stories of his indestructible tank of a bulldog Mishka. He also introduces us to his newest member of the family Jerry Garcia, a Shih Tzu/Poodle/Chihuahua/Maltese/Pomeranian/Super Mutt mix with hypnotic human-like blue eyes, and salutes the spirit of his beloved border collie Ohana who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge this past April.
Propaganda, by definition, is "information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view". Before we lose off the Drug Wars Propaganda stage, we get a little more introspective and skeptical about propaganda and its inescapable nature. Plus, a special guest appearance from Yesod Williams of Pepper.
He MUST have this when playing @TheAmp Delayed Gratification. Last week The Amp, in Saint Augustine, hosted the popular bands, Pepper & Slighty Stoopid. After a wild and fun round of golf, Yesod williams sat down with Todd Juliano backstage at The Amp to discuss just how HARD and how much WORK goes into being a successful musician. Who doesn't want to be a rockstar, perform on stage in front of thousands of people and be PRAISED for your sound? Well when you hear how much DEDICATION & WORK goes into reaching the top, it might just be the line in the sand that some people won't cross to get there. Listen in as Yesod spills about playing the 2001 Warp Tour, his favorite MUST have when he's in Saint Augustine, and a REUNION TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT??? Thank you again to Yesod Williams, Miles Doughty, Oguer Ocon, and Andy Geib for playing a round of golf with us and giving us a peak behind the curtain at our very own, Saint Augustine Amphitheater. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/on-the-mic-tj/message

Yesod Williams (Pepper, LAW Records) & Kellie Nowell (The Nowell Family Foundation, Bradley's House) interviews. Yesod Williams shares his story and solutions on alcoholism and depression. Growing up seeing his mother's alcoholism and its consequences and his mother's eventual death due to the disease, Yesod Williams slides into alcoholism after her death. With 9 years of abuse, Yesod's drummer friend Adam O'Rourke of 2Cents gave him the direction and advice that started his detox from alcohol. Listen to how Yesod changed in lifestyle, nutrition, and exercise after he chose a healthier life, which has made him think more clearly, feel more bright, and be more motivated than ever before. Depression was part of his withdrawal from alcohol, but he kept moving forward to find a better life beyond the bottle. Yesod's LAW Record Label has dropped a new compilation CD entitled, "The House That Bradley Built" with a variety of artists singing acoustic versions of their favorite Sublime songs. The proceeds will go to building Bradley's House, a opioid rehab center, as a tribute to Bradley Nowell, lead singer of Sublime who died in 1996 of a heroin overdose. Next, we have featured guest Kellie Nowell, sister of Brad, who talks about family addictions and fond memories of brother Brad and Sublime. Our featured song is "Rivers of Babylon" sung by Jake and Jim "Papa" Nowell, a special duet by son and father of Bradley Nowell, a highlight on the new CD. "The House That Bradley Built" CD and Deluxe CD can be purchased at law-records.com. “Be brave, ask for help, and be persistent in finding the mental help that you need.” For free or affordable mental help, visit: http://checkyourheadpodcast.com/ Thank you for supporting us through our website at checkyourheadpodcast.com or on our patreon.com page. "You can take the band out of Hawaii, but you can't take the Hawaii out of the band..." Pepper drummer Yesod Williams from Pepper sat down with me at Riot Fest 2016 to talk about the band's long history. He was a gracious, kind and charming person to interview; despite the level of success Pepper's achieved, he approaches it with modesty: "My life is filled with 'pinch myself moments'" Another backstage interview from the Chicago date of Riot Fest 2016. This time around, it's Yesod Williams, drummer for Pepper, a band that's blissfully been bringing chill vibes for two decades. We started the interview with a discussion of the band's sound. Simply put, you can take the band out of Hawaii...but you can't take Hawaii
