After getting a couple of negative things—Bo Bichette's injury, Orelvis Martinez's release—out of the way up front, we spend the rest of this week's episode vibing out on a Jays team that has won six straight, keeps hitting, keeps showing incredible resilience, has had its bullpen bounce back, has Kevin Gausman pitching like it's 2022, and has added a new playoff weapon in the form of Trey Yesavage—who, if he keeps pitching the way he did in his debut, may even wind up in the rotation come October.FOR AN AD-FREE VERSION OF THIS EPISODE AND WEEKLY BONUS SHOWS, SUPPORT US AT patreon.com/BJHH Hosted on Acast. Chuck Granata's book Wouldn't It Be Nice: Brian Wilson And The Making Of The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds is the ultimate dissection of Brian Wilson's 1966 masterpiece. Chuck and I wound up diving so deep into the record, we unfortunately had to seek treatment for the bends…thankfully it was a risk worth taking, as Discograffiti's Pet Sounds Deep-Dive Series stands as a unique combination of factual obsession and personal connection. Episode 3 is an examination of everything you'll ever need to know about the remainder of Pet Sounds' Side 1: “Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder),” “I'm Waiting For The Day,” “Let's Go Away For Awhile,” and “Sloop John B.”Here's just a few of the many things that Chuck discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast:Brian Wilson's studio preparation for the production of “Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)”;What Brian feels is “the one cut off the album I didn't really like that much”;The Burt Bacharach song on which Brian had felt he'd subconsciously based “Let's Go Away For Awhile”;The stunning original intention for the final planned Pet Sounds session, before that date was used to knock out the entire mix of the LP;Brian's Great Bahamian Folk Song Swindle;A full half-hour interview with Sid Sharp, whose string section played on virtually all of Brian's string dates, including both Pet Sounds and "Good Vibrations” (in The Director's Cut only); And how both Chuck and I connect with “Don't Talk,” “I'm Waiting For The Day,” “Let's Go Away For Awhile,” and “Sloop John B” in a laid-bare, explicitly personal way.Listen: linktr.ee/discograffitiI support a wife and a six-year-old son with Discograffiti as my sole source of income. Don Randi is a keyboard player, songwriter, arranger, bandleader and one of the most prolific session musicians in history. Don was born in New York City but raised in the Catskill Mountains where he studied classical music. He moved to Los Angeles in 1954 and, by the early 60s, Don was leading his own groups and working with a who's who of now legendary artists. Don is also the founder and owner of the long-standing L.A. nightclub the Baked Potato which he opened way back in 1970. Denny Tedesco is a film producer known for the documentaries "Immediate Family" and "The Wrecking Crew" although Mr. Tedesco has worked on films over the years as a set director, lighting technician, grip and location producer.Maggie, Don & Denny discuss the revolving cast of musical characters we now know as The Wrecking Crew and later we discuss the extraordinary musical legacy of Brian Wilson who passed away June 11, 2025 at the age of 82. Brian Douglas Wilson was an American musician, songwriter, singer, and record producer who co-founded the Beach Boys. He was born on June 20, 1942, at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, California and passed away on June 11, 2025 at the age of 82 in Beverly Hills. Brian Wilson has been frequently called a genius for his compositions and recording techniques and is regarded as one of the most significant songwriters in popular music. His best-known work is distinguished by high production values, complex harmonies, orchestrations and vocal layering. In 1961, Brian began his professional career as a member of the Beach Boys, serving as the band's songwriter, producer, co-lead vocalist, bassist, keyboardist, and de facto leader. After signing with Capitol Records in 1962, he became the first pop musician credited for writing, arranging, producing, and performing his own material.By the mid-1960s he had written or co-written more than two dozen American Top 40 hits, including the #1 hits "Surf City" (1963), "I Get Around" (1964), "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), and "Good Vibrations" (1966). He is considered among the first music producer auteurs and one of the first rock producers to use the studio as an instrument. We dedicate the show to Brian Wilson, there will never be another so bright and so brilliant! Sly Stone's passing. The leader of the fun and funky 1960s/70s group Sly & the Family Stone died from lung disease and left behind him some extraordinary music as well as an enigmatic legacy. Today it was announced by his family that Brian Wilson, founder of the Beach Boys and the musical brains behind beloved hits like “Good Vibrations,” “God Only Knows,” “California Girls” and many others, has died. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but he was placed under a conservatorship in May 2024 due to his declining health. Music historian Scott Shea states that, “These were two California visionaries who both came from musical families and their individual musical heritages helped shape a movement in the 1960s. We may never anything like this again. They will be missed.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
In light of the passing of Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, we feature some extraordinary audio of Brian from the mid '60s. Wilson is exuberant as he talks about listening to the radio and dissecting his favourite songs. He also explains why he decided to retire from touring with the Beach Boys in the mid '60s. We will also hear highlights from Christopher's late '80s interview with Carl Wilson, who pulls no punches when he speaks of Eugene Landy, Brian's guru who held an inordinate amount of control and power over Brian's life and career. In a 1995 interview, Mike Love talks about Brian's prowess in the studio, particularly his creation of the "pocket symphony", "Good Vibrations". In this thought-provoking episode of Mark and Pete, we explore three very different but equally fascinating stories shaping headlines in 2025. First, Britain has officially scrapped the 200-year-old Vagrancy Act, sparking a national debate: will this compassionate move address homelessness or simply lead to an explosion of tent cities in UK towns and cities? We unpack the political, social, and biblical implications of this controversial decision. Next, we pay tribute to Brian Wilson, the legendary co-founder of The Beach Boys, who passed away at 82. From Good Vibrations to God Only Knows, Wilson redefined pop music with his innovative harmonies and studio wizardry while battling personal demons. We reflect on his extraordinary musical legacy and enduring spiritual themes found in his work. Finally, we lighten the mood with the wonderfully eccentric Lambeth Country Show, where British humour is on full display. This year's viral vegetable carvings — including “Papal Corn Clave” and “Mo Salad” — offer a welcome dose of joyful absurdity. As always, Mark and Pete bring Scripture, wit, and common sense to the week's news — offering a unique Christian perspective on the stories behind the headlines.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.
Brian Wilson gave us Good Vibrations, Surfin' U.S.A., and the soundtrack to summer itself. But behind the Beach Boys legend was a man fighting demons most of us can't imagine—hallucinations, trauma, addiction, and mental illness. He didn't quit. He turned pain into purpose, and failure into brilliance. This is The Real Story of Brian Wilson.
On The Other Side of Midnight, Lionel ridicules cable TV channels like MSNBC and personalities like Stephen A. Smith. He also talks about accents getting people into and out of trouble as well as the life and legacy of Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson. Lionel spends the next hour talking about Golden Throats covers of iconic songs from Sebastian Cabot's wacky cover of "It Ain't Me, Babe" and William Shatner's performance of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Lionel in the third hour highlights comedy greats from the 70s, Depend adult undergarments and who Mrs. Calabash was, the woman Jimmy Durante always referenced in his radio sign-off. Lionel wraps up the show talking about psychology behind comedy, remembering Brian Wilson and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Special Free Bonus Episode! Original Broadcast date: May 11, 2023GOOD VIBRATIONS PODCAST with Mark DevlinSo these three Brits and three Yanks walk into a bar… When we accept that popular culture is all controlled and used to push agendas and programming - particularly when we may have been hardcore fans of music or movies previously - what meaningful/ higher-minded replacements can we adopt to fill the void if we decide to let all that go? Considering these points in this roundtable discussion are Mark Devlin of Good Vibrations podcast, Crow and Jason of Crrow777 Radio, Dom & Chris of Sheep Farm Studios, and Wayne McRoy of the Alchemical Tech Revolution podcast. Along the way we focus on the dynamics of social engineering, culture-creation and societal mind-control, but also suggest ways of breaking free of their spells, and passing the baton of truth on to the next generation. Episode 94 — Frank Pagano: From Glen Rock to the Broadway PitIn this must-hear episode of the Broadway Drumming 101 Podcast, I sit down with legendary drummer and percussionist Frank Pagano — a true veteran of both the concert stage and the Broadway scene.Frank's career reads like a who's who of the music industry. He's played with icons like Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Al Green, and Phoebe Snow. On Broadway, his credits span from Leader of the Pack and The Who's Tommy to Smokey Joe's Cafe, Cry-Baby, The Pirate Queen, Good Vibrations, Fosse, Big River, Saturday Night Fever, and more. What you'll hear in this episode:* How a 4th-grade music demo sparked Frank's lifelong love of drums.* Growing up and gigging with the Vivino brothers (yes — that Jimmy Vivino).* What it was like studying percussion at Manhattan School of Music and later with Joe Morello and Justin DiCioccio.* His unusual path to Broadway — having a chair before ever subbing.* The real reason he pivoted to Broadway full-time: marriage, fatherhood, and health insurance.* Wisdom on subbing: play their show, not yours.* Lessons from playing percussion alongside killer drummers like Brian Brake.* Touring vs. pit life — the physical grind of the road versus the stability of Broadway.* How working with artists like Laura Nyro and Bruce Springsteen shaped his perspective on artistry and professionalism.* Advice for drummers who want to make it in New York: “Play with everyone. Play everything. Be early. Be likable. Be ready.”Frank's reflections on time, groove, and what it really means to be musical are some of the best insights I've heard on this show. The male European fiddler crab attracts his mate by performing a courtship dance. New research published in the Journal of Experimental Biology says that dance isn't just notable for its visuals — it's notable for its vibrations, too.Researchers observed four different stages of the crab's courtship dance, each stage escalating the amount of seismic vibrational output. "It's 'come and find me in my underground house, ladies,'" says Beth Mortimer, a study author and biologist at the University of Oxford. Interested in more seismic vibration communication?
