Held at The Country Club of the South, the event honored supporter Noah Levy for his contributions, including the Ike Levy Memorial Fund and a successful $6 million capital campaign. The winning team included Tom Bevan, Chris Lyons, Paris Montgomery, and Angela Pittman. Proceeds will enhance Annandale’s care programs. Their next event, the Extra Mile 5K Walk/Run, is set for August 23 at Suwanee Town Center Park. Registration opens in June. STORY 2: Budget Cuts Close 20 Lake Lanier Recreational Sites Ahead Of Memorial Day Weekend A federal staffing shortage has forced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to close 31 recreational sites across Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, including 20 at Lake Lanier, just before Memorial Day weekend. The closures sparked political blame, with Rep. Rich McCormick criticizing Democrats for blocking funding, while Senators Warnock and Ossoff pointed to cuts under the Trump administration. The Corps cited staffing issues and said closures will remain until resolved, urging visitors to check for updates. The closures impact popular areas like Lake Lanier, which draws over 10 million visitors annually. STORY 3: Georgia Tech’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership Opens Regional Office at Gwinnett Chamber The Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP) at Georgia Tech has opened a new office in Duluth, located within the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce building. This is an Encore Presentation of my May 2024 SAXOPHONE SUMMIT featuring four of the world's best saxophone players.John Helliwell, former member of Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. They dominated the charts in the 1970s with their album “Breakfast In America” which sold over 20 million copies. Fred Lipsius, the saxophonist and an arranger for Blood Sweat & Tears, another one of the greatest bands of the modern era, which introduced the horn section into Rock ‘n Roll. Their self-titled second album won the Grammy for Record Of The Year in 1970. Fred arranged several of their biggest hits including “Spinning Wheel” and “Hi De Ho”. Bob Reynolds, the saxophonist for Snarky Puppy, one of the great bands of this era They are a Jazz Fusion band that's won 5 Grammys. And Ada Rovatti, an Italian born saxophonist who has performed with Aretha Franklin, Joe Bonamassa, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock and The Brecker Brothers Reunion Band.My featured song is “Metro Shuffle”, featuring Mindi Abair, from the album The PGS Experience by my band Project Grand Slam. Paul Muldoon is a Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet. He's won several other awards too including the Shakespeare Prize. He's the author of 15 collections of poetry. He's the Editor of the 2021 two-volume treatise called “The Lyrics: 1956 To The Present”, that he wrote together with Sir Paul McCartney. It covers 154 of Paul's songs with the Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist. Mona Golabek is an author, actress and Grammy Nominated concert pianist. She has an important and touching Holocaust related story. It's about her mother, Lisa Jura, at the time a 14 year old pianist living with her family in Vienna, who escaped from the Nazis to England via the Kindertransport program. Mona has written a book about this called “The Children of Willesden Lane”. She subsequently adapted it into a stage version which played in New York, London and elsewhere, starring Mona and for which she received several Best Actress nominations. Later still Mona created a foundation which has brought her mother's story to over 10 million students and communities around the world.
