Jay takes us back to 1997 to revisit the album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. by Incubus. The album preceded their commercially successful 1999 album, Make Yourself. It's heavier and funkier and was the last album to include DJ Life. It is worth a listen, you should check it out.Songs:Incubus - “Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)”Incubus - “Deep Inside”This week on News with Nick, Snoop & Dre collab on a Nashville Gin bar, and we have a selection of music related films coming out soon to discuss.Song: Tortoise - “Organesson”Finally, can we talk about Greg Loman for a second? We close the show out with a very special Review the Review. It seems as though a write for SDShowz made it to the Beck's Bolero & Red Not Chili Peppers' gig in San Diego last week and, boy oh boy, were they impressed with Greg! We read the whole darn review, we bask in Greg's awesomeness and we celebrate his modesty. The Metal Maniacs Podcast – Episode 91: 5 Concerts That Changed Us Forever!Welcome to Episode 91 of The Metal Maniacs Podcast, hosted by *Jay Ingersoll and Nick Modd! This week, we're diving deep into the five concerts each that changed our lives forever—those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that left a permanent mark on our souls and solidified our love for heavy music. From the raw energy of death metal pioneers to the theatrical madness of shock rock legends, these are the shows that shaped us as metalheads. A few we talk about are### **Marilyn Manson – Dead to the World Tour (April 30, 1997 – Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo, MI)**One of the most controversial and unforgettable tours of the ‘90s, **Marilyn Manson's Dead to the World Tour** was a spectacle of chaos, aggression, and mind-bending theatrics. Supporting *Antichrist Superstar*, this show was packed with intense visuals, haunting performances, and a setlist that included tracks like *Angel With the Scabbed Wings* and *Antichrist Superstar*. The lineup was stacked with **Rasputina, Pist. On, and Helmet**, making for an eclectic and powerful night of music.### **Death – The Sound of Perseverance Tour (November 21, 1998 – I-Rock Night Club/Harpo's, Detroit, MI)**Seeing **Chuck Schuldiner and Death live** was nothing short of witnessing history in the making. Touring in support of *The Sound of Perseverance*, Death's performance was an absolute masterclass in technical death metal. This show featured some of Chuck's most intricate and emotionally charged compositions, and the energy in the crowd was off the charts. Death's legacy as one of the most innovative and influential bands in metal was solidified that night.### **Ozzfest 1998 – Pine Knob Music Theatre, Clarkston, MI (July 23, 1998)**Ozzfest ‘98 was an **era-defining** festival, boasting a killer lineup that included **Ozzy Osbourne, Tool, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth, Incubus, and more**. It was a whirlwind of moshing, scorching heat, and the sound of thousands of fans losing their minds to some of the biggest bands in metal history. This festival set the standard for modern metal tours and provided one of the most intense festival experiences we've ever had.### **Walls of Jericho – The Crofoot Ballroom, Pontiac, MI (August 19, 2023)**Fast-forwarding to a more recent gig, **Walls of Jericho** performed alongside **Bleeding Through, Dead to Fall, Let It Die, Through the Eyes of the Dead, and Too Pure to Die** for an unforgettable night of **metalcore brutality**. The energy at The Crofoot Ballroom was **explosive**, and it was incredible to see Walls of Jericho still bringing the same level of aggression and intensity that made them legends in the scene.### **Korn, Ozzy Osbourne & Deftones – Wings Event Center, Kalamazoo, MI (February 7, 1996)**A true **genre-defining moment**, this tour combined **nu-metal pioneers Korn and Deftones** with the Prince of Darkness himself, **Ozzy Osbourne**. This show was **a collision of worlds**, blending Ozzy's legendary metal status with the rising wave of nu-metal chaos. The atmosphere was electric, with mosh pits erupting and an unforgettable performance that left a lasting impression on us.Final ThoughtsConcerts are more than just performances—they're **rituals, shared experiences, and moments of pure catharsis**. These five shows (and the honorable mentions) helped shape our love for heavy music, and we know many of you have had similar experiences.Hit us up in the comments and let us know—what concerts changed YOUR life forever?Stay heavy,Jay & NickFollow us- https://linktr.ee/metalmaniacsmiThe Metal Maniacs Podcast
MUSIC Thirty Seconds to Mars and Billie Eilish have been targets in a Russian disinformation campaign that promised both acts would be playing in Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014. This could be seriously awesome: Lizzo is going to star in a biopic about Sister Rosetta Tharpe . . . also known as the Godmother of Rock and Roll. Your weekly Jelly Roll news: Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie Xo, are still trying to have a baby through IVF. Evanescence will release a new single called "Afterlife" on Friday that's taken from the new Netflix animated series Devil May Cry, which is out on April 3rd. Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd says they've finished their ninth album with a single due out in the summer and album in October. TV Jennifer Aniston and Pedro Pascal are NOT together ... despite tons of speculation that the two are an item. MOVING ON INTO MOVIE NEWS: George Clooney won't be a romantic interest in any more movies. Gene Hackman allegedly didn't name his three estranged children in his will, but they could still inherit his $80 million fortune. AND FINALLY "The Office" is 20 years old this week . . . so "Rolling Stone" put together a list of its 25 Best Moments. Here's the Top 10: 1. Kevin Spills the Chili: From "Casual Friday", Season 5. 2. Jim Kisses Pam: From "Casino Night", Season 2. 3. Prison Mike Scares Dunder Mifflin Straight: From "The Convict", Season 3. 4. ANGELA PETRILLI Interview (with Matt & Rob) Angela is an LA based guitarist who fronts her great band, "The Players" They most recently released a live version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" which will most certainly blow you away! We talked to Angela about the Netflix documentary "Norman's Rare Guitars". Angela is part of the documentary and she's a big part of Norman's Guitars with her "guitar of the week" videos and also instructional videos teaching guitar players some of the songs she absolutely loves. A new album is in the works from Angela Petrilli and the Players! In this interview we talk about Norman's, Zeparella, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Incubus, Martin Guitar and of course.. Guitars! ***** A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ANGELA PETRILLI Back in 2019 Angela lost her dear friend and bandmate Jennifer Pagliaro from stage 4 breast cancer. Angela was one half of the duo "Roses and Cigarettes" (with Jenny). That year they created some major buzz with their 3rd album "Echoes and Silence" and a tour in the works. On March 25th Rolling Stone named their song "Fast as I Can" as one of the 10 best country songs of the week. But in a heartbreaking and tragic turn of events, Pagliaro—who had been fighting off cancer for years—passed away the very next day. She was just 35. For the better part of a year, the grieving Petrilli put down her guitar, left L.A. behind and set out across the world. She traveled to Nashville, New York, Paris and Italy, eventually making it as far as Australia. Along the way, she spent a lot of time on the ocean, where she was able to find some peace and clarity. As she began to heal, she could feel her muse calling once again. Finally back home in L.A., she reached out to some musician friends and booked a bar gig under the name The Petrilli Players. The idea was to shake off the cobwebs, play some covers and have a good time—and that's exactly how it went down. With a reinvigorated sense of purpose, and a band of simpatico players—Brett Grossman on bass, Stephen Haaker on drums, Matt Lomeo on harmonica & backing vocals, Bobby Victor on keys, and Vic Vanacore III on percussion—Petrilli was inspired to start writing again. After several months playing shows around Los Angeles (including opening spots for Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters, The Immediate Family, and a performance at Joe Bonamassa's 3rd Annual Stream-a-thon concert), the new songs felt studio-ready, and Petrilli booked a session at Hollywood's legendary Sunset Sound—the same hallowed ground that has hosted sessions by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Van Halen, Ray LaMontagne and countless others. ************ You can find Angela on FB and Instagram. If you're intrigued by things like avant-garde animation, handicapped horror, frustrating patience experiments, shelved superhero epics, pretentious horror comedies, A-List auteurs, B-movie bombs, Star Search narrators, post-apocalyptic sitcom dogs, and more... this is the episode you've been waiting for. OH, AND FOR THIS EPISODE, WE'RE SANS GUESTS, IN AN ATTEMPT TO HIGHLIGHT WHAT WE LIKE TO CALL OUR "FRIENDSHIP ODDITIES."

MONSTER PARTY TAKES AN ESPERAN-TOUR INTO CINEMATIC OBSCURITY! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD explore the difficult history of a little-known genre film gem. Join us as we embark on... THE TWISTED JOURNEY OF INCUBUS!!! In 1966, members of the creative team behind the groundbreaking science fiction series, THE OUTER LIMITS, gave us an atmospheric horror film whose legacy is so troubled, it was considered by many to be cursed. Written and directed by OUTER LIMITS creator LESLIE STEVENS, shot by ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING cinematographer CONRAD HALL, and starring a pre-STAR TREK WILLIAM SHATNER, INCUBUS also has the distinction of being the first horror film in the language of Esperanto! For those unaware, Esperanto is an artificial language created by L.L. Zamenhof in 1887. But what would possess someone to make a horror film in this relatively unknown tongue? And would this decision jump-start the film's infamous "curse?" Get ready for a fascinating tale that must be heard to be believed. It features murder, suicide, kidnapping, adultery, unnecessary nudity, negligent film preservation, angry Esperantists, even angrier Frenchmen, and an arguably high-riding but amazing toupee. It is also an inspiring tale of the talent, ingenuity, and dedication it took to bring this remarkable work to the screen and the effort that went into the film's re-discovery and preservation. Joining us for this exciting examination of INCUBUS is a man who literally wrote the book on it. He's an award-winning author, screenwriter, and archivist who brought us the MONSTER PARTY "must have" books, THE OUTER LIMITS COMPANION and THE OUTER LIMITS AT 50. He's provided audio commentary for many TV shows and films, (including two for INCUBUS), and most recently penned the definitive history of our featured topic, INCUBUS: INSIDE LESLIE STEVENS' LOST HORROR CLASSIC! Please welcome back, our dear friend... DAVID J. SCHOW! We had the pleasure of interviewing Atlas Genius over Zoom video!Australian-based brothers, Atlas Genius are thrilled to release their new album End of the Tunnel. The band has put together a special recipe for the new collection of songs. Album ingredients: Lost love, guilt, passion, a dash of social commentary, existential crises, reckless abandon, and honest self-criticism. May contain traces of lust.2024 also marks the 11-year anniversary of the band's debut album When It Was Now, which features top charting songs including the certified platinum “Trojans” which hit #3 on the US Alternative charts and “If So” which peaked at #8. About Atlas Genius: Their Father was a self made man. He started as a miner, miles below the Australian earth before becoming a successful engineer. But his dreams fell apart following an incapacitating heart attack and a 2 year battle for his life. While their mother tended to their ailing father, the 3 teenage sons, Keith, Steven & Michael grew up quickly having to provide for the family. Eldest Keith's job at KFC wasn't enough, so the Jeffery brothers started playing gigs to pay the family's bills. Even the youngest, 14 year old drummer Michael, had to balance school work and early mornings with their late night cover band shows in the local Adelaide clubs. After a few years and the healing of their father, the band built a recording studio in their home's garage. Out of this home studio came the band's debut album and certified platinum hit single “Trojans.” Over their career, Atlas Genius has traveled the world supporting Weezer, Blink 182, Incubus, Silversun Pickups, The Neighborhood, Passion Pit, Imagine Dragons, The Kooks, and more. Atlas have performed at some of the most iconic and prestigious festivals including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Bottlerock, Shaky Knees, and Life is Beautiful and has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman and Jay Leno. On today's special year-end edition of the cast, we take a look back at the year that was 2024 and look back at all of my picks for the top albums of the year handcrafted by yours truly and what album stood out among the rest and really encapsulated the year as a whole. I also give some selections from my top songs over the past year and which ones stood out as anthems and received the most airplay throughout that contributed to some of the best moments from beginning to end. I also recap some of my favorite concerts that I attended over the past year including Joshua Bassett, Incubus, Vampire Weekend, and the epic pop-punk leaning When We Were Young festival out in Vegas featuring The Starting Line, Taking Back Sunday, and a whole host of others that wrapped up the year on a fine note. I also play some sections from my year-end songs list, including Henry Merit, Donna Drive, and Pretoria.

This isn't just a ghost story—it's a tale of demonic seduction, where the line between dreams and reality becomes terrifyingly blurred. In this episode, we explore the experience of a woman who finds herself entangled with an incubus, a demonic entity that thrives on lust and desire. At first, the encounters come through vivid, disturbingly intimate dreams that leave her feeling drained and disturbed upon waking. But soon, the visits stop being confined to sleep. The incubus starts appearing in her waking life, manifesting in shadowy forms and creating a dark, overwhelming presence in her home. As the entity grows stronger, it begins to invade her thoughts, her space, and even her relationships. This story doesn't just delve into the experience of a haunting but also into the psychological toll of being targeted by something so dark and intimate. Is this demonic entity feeding off her fears, or is it something she's unknowingly invited into her life? And most importantly, how do you fight something that knows you so well that it can seduce and torment you with the deepest corners of your mind?

Episode 355 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Ben Maitland-Lewis, Director of Startup Banking & Founder Success at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and yes, this episode is also sponsored by SVB. Ben and I go way back. His previous company, Pretty Instant, had a long-standing relationship with VentureFizz. This Y-Combinator company was an on-demand photography marketplace that did all of our office tour photoshoots on VentureFizz. It honestly was an amazing experience… such a great company. But even when you work with someone for a long time and you have a great professional relationship, there is so much about the person that you don't know and this is one of the reasons why I love this podcast. I learned that Ben's background story is very eclectic… from living abroad as a child, to being a street performer and being in the circus to playing music with an orchestra… and then being in a band playing the top clubs in LA to playing drums for other bands like Incubus, Dishwalla, and others… I could go on and on, so I'll stop here and let him tell his story in this interview. Today, Ben is still leveraging his experience as a founder but helping other entrepreneurs in lots of meaningful ways at SVB. In addition to Ben's background story, we also cover: * A discussion about making the transition from founder to employee. * Ben's journey into entrepreneurship and the story of PressKit. * All the details about Pretty Instant and how the company got started and scaled. * His current role at SVB and the different ways he is working with founders. * Some analysis and positive vibes from SVB's State of the Markets report. * And so much more. Episode Sponsor: As a longtime champion of the local startup ecosystem, Silicon Valley Bank supports innovative companies with the solutions and financing they need through every stage of growth. With more than 1,500 bankers and relationship advisors, and $42B in loans as of Q2 2024 – SVB delivers the right people, service and resources to support your entire financial journey.
