Kurt Wilkinson (@kurt.wilkinson) has already graced our show on our second episode where he talked about his unique style of gardening– wild gardening with formal elements. In this episode, Kurt and Melissa talk more about pest infestations and how to deal with them naturally. Kurt has a fascinating approach to dealing with pests, so we're excited to talk about that and more. Do you have questions for Kurt? Leave them below in the comments! In the previous episode, Kurt and Melissa talked at length about worm teas and worm castings. This time, Kurt dives deeper into using fertilizers. His tip? Stay away from using artificial fertilizers, especially those that contain too much ammonia and nitrates. Using synthetic fertilizers plus ammonia may give you a green lush plant, BUT– it won't be a healthy plant. Speaking of organic fertilizers, they also talked about kelp and seaweed fertilizers and how amazing they are! Kelp and seaweed fertilizers are essentially effective biostimulants that encourage microbes to grow in your soil. Imagine, these biostimulants doing the work for you while giving your plants all the nutrients they need to thrive! The conversation also covered different types of organic fertilizers and how they can affect the soil ecosystem. Kurt's advice

Hey guys! Melissa is with Clint (@Theneighbordominator) on this week's episode. Clint has been a huge help in the Facebook group, (Lawncare 101 for Beginners & New Homeowners), where they constantly trade tips & tricks about lawns. He also has his own YouTube channel, the Neighbor Dominator, where he shares his best practices. We're thrilled to share with you how awesome Clint's lawn is, and it all started when he diverted his passion from golf to lawn care. You'll see how he brought the golf course to his house in this video! His stripes are superb, his greens are immaculate, and he's got a beautiful putting green in the front yard. He also has some great tips & tricks for you to get started on your own lawn care journey. One tip that he shared: Mowing. Mowing the lawn is kind of a pain for some. You have to go out there, get all sweaty and dirty, and—worst of all—you have to use a noisy machine that could make your neighbors hate you. But did you know mowing the lawn doesn't need to be such a dreaded activity? Clint has found a way to mow the lawn that makes it easier, faster, and less stressful. What is it? Watch the video and take a look at what he's doing!

Welcome to this week's episode of Art of Gardening. Every expert was once a beginner, which is evident in Meg's and her husband's homestead garden. From wanting to stop growing horrible tomatoes to having a marvelous garden near the Ninnescah River... Meg and her husband started with a traditional garden, growing tomatoes, while Meg, her natural artistic self, wanted it a bit more aesthetic, beautiful, and functional. Thus, began her raised garden beds journey. They didn't have a proper plan for their garden at first. But who knew that their now marvelous garden started literally from pieces of metal and wood scraps? This is an exciting topic, especially for gardening beginners. You'll surely learn a lot from Meg. They shared how they started having zero to little knowledge about gardening, doing raised beds, their natural way of battling these pesky pests and their cute farm animals. Tune in and gather for this fun and informative discussion here on the Art of Gardening! Fresh episodes every week!
Welcome to the second episode of Art of Gardening! We're glad to have Kurt Wilkinson talk about his unique gardening style in this episode. Kurt Wilkinson (@kurt.wilkinson.garden.design) introduced Melissa to wild gardening. He is a professional gardener and a phenomenal topiarist in Adelaide. His gardening style is a bit different from everyone else, which makes it unique. He was very much cocooned in Adelaide before experimenting with his own ideas and style in gardening, thanks to Piet Oudolf's massive influence on him. He changed his way of gardening from being very formal, controlled, and high-maintenance with many inputs to letting nature take its course. He tried several plans and plants before he came up with his style due to the harsh conditions in Adelaide – the climate, soil, etc. As time went by, he gradually transitioned, and the wild elements became more dominant. He found out that he needed the degree of chaos surrounding the formal structure; otherwise, it would only seem too harsh. How about you? Has your style developed or changed in the past years like Kurt's? And what influenced it to be what it is today? Listen as Melissa and Kurt delve more into nature and the art of gardening. New episode every other week!
