Who are we? Why listen to another podcast? This is a Latino, Latina, Latinx, Spanish, English, Spanglish kinda vibe. Here you can feel at home and still learn more about YOU. We will inspire, empower, and nurture authentic leadership skills. Ali Cortes, Irene Kelly, and Rene Garcia Hernandez; we are breaking stigma chains and showing you how to break through and reach your authentic self with the help of our guests. This episode is in English :) More about Bienestar Latinx: During this time with the pandemic and the issues it brought up for our Latinx community, I had many epiphanies as I worked with youth and families. The burnout of each member in our community was devastating and we began to lose hope as the world was changing rapidly; rapidly and affecting our community in ways that were brutal. The inequality was magnified and trauma was amplified. The lack of Spanish resources made it clear that our Latin community had more barriers and had challenges as many of us have been on survival mode even before COVID. We. Could not let our people drown in despair and lose hope. The statistics of mental health diseases have been climbing and the awareness finally brought us to the place where we NEED to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and overall wellness. What better way to do this than to give it more attention. The more we can look at the wound, the more we will seek the help we need to heal it. Awareness is key and the first step. The time is now! This is more than a podcast, this is a movement to help our community thrive and go from generational trauma to generational wealth. All my work and observations, I know that our community needs more visual and culturally proficient hands-on resources. We need visual tools that our Latinx community can find familiarity with. The goal is to provide empowerment, wellness education, and inspiration to seek quality healthy ways of living through culture and evidence-based practices. The primary effect we want to achieve is awareness of stigmas that are perpetuating generational trauma. The secondary effect we want to have is that people will find the energy and capacity to step up as leaders by taking care of their wellbeing first (mental, physical, emotional). Encouraging our community to prioritize and promote their wellbeing and make wellness plans. It was noticed most Latinx mental health professionals are feeling alone advocating for resources and respectful treatment of our Latinx families. Even our bilingual nurses, lawyers, and teachers are experiencing similar burnout experiences. Across the board in all careers, professionals are experiencing burnout from the heavy load. Mostly due to having to carry a bigger case load and heaviness of our community needs, and wearing many hats that spread them thin. The issue is that people at the decision making tables are not hiring or better yet not prioritizing hiring bilingual staff stating there is not enough. Propelling tokenism. Many of these factors lead to our bilingual professionals to leave this community. Overall continuing the diversity gap and lack of representation. The main way to make a difference is to empower and build professionals to take leadership roles and be at these tables. Creating authentic leadership where our community leaders do not have to dilute who they are and truly represent their roots. For example, the simple fact of expressing our roots in a professional picture on Linked In is empowering for our community. Representation matters, not based on color only but on pride in their roots. This is a culturally holistic approach to overall health prevention and leadership development. We are doing this through a podcast, workshops, creating a network of Latinx professionals, hosting healing circles, and positive cultural media posts. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bienestarlatinx/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bienestarlatinx/support
