Q: What's a Pantera? A: 1) A class of jungle cat 2) A bitchin' Italian sports car 3) One of metal's most influential and kick-ass bands 4) All of the above. If you answered 4, you are correct! And we're talking about them all! But mostly that last one. This week we discuss; the hairspray and Disco Owl Demons involved in 'I Am The Night' (1985), smoking a honey-dip joint to 'Cowboys From Hell' (1990), Chris Pratt's favourite metal album - 'Vulgar Display Of Power' (1992), the at-least-heavier-than-Lionel-Richie 'Far Beyond Driven' (1994), and Phil Anselmo's Boomhauer-esque stage banter on 'Official Live: 101 Proof' (1997). We also touch on Devin's legit trypophobia, Fraz's love of Dunkaroos, and if getting punched in the face thirty times for $300 would be worth it (SPOILER: it would). It's an episode so full of southern flair and all-day aggression, you'll be positively pawing at yourself by the end! WHATIDJA SAY?!

You can't spell funeral without fun! And you can't spell Devin & Hell without Devin and Fraz. On this week's show, we take another deep dive into the world of black metal! We start off with a rundown of the stacks of books holding up our microphones, and believe it or not, things get even crazier from there. We talk Austria's Belphegor and what exactly constitutes a Bondage Goat Zombie; England's Cradle Of Filth and their hot take on Gothic Metal; Sweden's Dark Funeral and what it is to practice Rational Satanism; Norway's Enslaved and their amazing, planet-building progressive style; AND Norway's Satyricon - winners of multiple Eurammies! Plus, we sneak in a mini Wonder Woman review, Devin has pressing concerns about what his grandma would think of black metal, and Fraz breaks a glass like the classic klutz that he is. Remember, you get as much Satan as you give, so get a little more with Black Metal Part II! Jeff's here!!

Snuggle up with a cat called Angelripper and enjoy our Sodom episode! In this show, we talk 'renovictions', asbestos, and British Columbia's haunted McDonald's barge! Eventually we get around to covering German thrash legends Sodom and their killer discography, including: Persecution Mania (1987), Agent Orange (1989), 'Til Death Do Us Unite (1997), M-16 (2001), and Decision Day (2016)! But we don't just talk Sodom and how they're kind of all the great 80's metal bands in a blender. No sir! We also discuss Robocop versions of other characters from pop culture; nipples on bat-suits; Devin's passion for noodley guitar solos; Fraz's complete inability to remember the term 'provocative'; AND a quick breakdown of the lauded birdwatching festival, 'The Big Day'. There is also A LOT of mascot discussion, - even for us - so please join us for an episode that can only be described as relentlessly shredtastic! THE PODCAST. THAT DOESN'T. BURN!

Put on your red hats and khakis, it's time for our Nu-Metal episode! We discuss this ever-polarizing sub-genre/moment in time with our good pal Peter Carlone of award-winning comedy duo Peter n' Chris, just in time to pick his wedding music! The three of us travel all the way back to the year 2000 (or slightly earlier), where combining misspelled words to make your band name and dressing in weird pants was the order of the day. Discussion includes: the electronic scrapings and Seinfeld bass on Mudvayne's 'L.D.50'; how Limp Bizkit's 'Significant Other' makes Fred Durst seem whiter than the cast of Full House; Korn's 'Follow The Leader' and that time Peter went to a Korn show with a bunch of grandmas; how Linkin Park's 'Hybrid Theory' is as awesome as it is annoying; and Devin loves to hate how much Fraz loves Papa Roach's 'Infest'. We also go through a master list of nu-metal bands, go deep on the crossover between Nu-Metal and Christian metal, and unleash a virtual army of homing pigeons. It's one for the ages, y'all. LOOK INTO DEEZ EYEZ!

15 GWAR

Set those Home Alone traps and bleach those anuses, it's time for the GWAR episode! Devin and Fraz have a real swell time talking all things Scumdogs of the Universe, from their discography and origin story to their has-to-be-seen-to-be-believed live act to their appearance on the Joan Rivers Show. This episode's discussion also includes but is not limited to: the GWAR comic book, viking funerals, how the 90's were a decade of farts, which movie Devin saw nine times in the theatre, and just how sweet a GWAR/No Doubt collab would be. Devin spends most of the show under a dark metal cumulous cloud of airborne influenza, but Fraz makes up for it with cool action figure ideas. We make a Slipknot/GWAR comparison. We discuss how GWAR's costumes look like melting Disney mascots. AND we give shout-outs to classy Vancouver musicians Devin Townsend and Woolworm! In short, this one has it all. Why are you my mom? GWAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR.

Well, we kick off our first proper episode in too long by gathering around ye olde youtube machine and watching a lizard squirt blood from its own eye, so you know we've got a real corker on our hands. Eventually we get around to talking about Incantation and their logo of questionable substance, Autopsy and their hidden-baby cover art, Cryptopsy and their penchant for taking the Nestea plunge, Vomitory and their namesake's theatrical roots, and how Bloodbath are the Travelling Wilburys of death metal! All of this, plus Devin scares some construction workers, Fraz sings some Miley, and we get down to the bottom of a few fathomless mysteries. It's a mixed bag of death in an episode heavy enough to scare ghosts! BRUTAL.

It's the second part of our EPIC Black Sabbath episode, and it's a doozy! Devin drops some major car knowledge (Triumph Spitfires, Disco Cars, Ozzy-Mobiles, et al) AND describes his latest run-in with a post-apocalyptic desert space cowboy! Then Fraz sneezes out brain! Eventually, we get around to talking about: Bill Ward's wife's sweet red tights on the cover of Sabotage (1975); how 'It's Alright' from Technical Ecstasy (1976) should have been called 'Invasion of the Flower People'; the fact that Heaven and Hell (1980) would have been EVEN better with a guest appearance from Tom Sizemore; Born Again (1983)'s definitely-not-shocking cover; and how the band that put out 13 (2013) should have been called Sabbath Against The Machine. Plus, 1992's Dehumanizer is hidden gem you should consider thinking about listening to eventually. And further discussion on becoming a professional Ozzy-wrangler, as well as on our potential spin-off show, 'Dentures and Hell'. It's part two of our first-ever two-parter! We're all out of parts! There are 666 reasons why this is a milestone Devin and Hell episode. Here are just a few: It's our first two-parter, because we're finally talking Sabbath! Specifically, their first five untouchable albums (Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath)! Devin gets rid of his weird old curtain! Fraz does is Sega impression! The lads witness a real-life car accident during the show! And Devin tries to keep the episode on the rails while Fraz polishes off a peanut butter cookie! Plus; we use an unreasonable amount of movie analogies, discuss Tony Iommi's role as metal's 'Riff Santa', unpack Devin's dislike of cymbals, make fun of Ozzy Osbourne being scared in a castle, and Fraz likes the song 'Changes' so much, it will likely make you uncomfortable! Finally, a podcast you can grow a beard to! It's Black Sabbath! Part 1!

Holy Moly! What an extra-special treat this week, as Devin and Fraz are joined by Winnipeg sketch troupe, HUNKS!!! This episode was recorded with Fraz and HUNKS in a swank hotel room in Edmonton, while Devin chimed in from Vancouver via the internet! New School Death meets new school technology! Bitchin'! On this week's show: Tim Gray's molecules are reassembled by Disma's 'Towards The Megalith'; Dana Smith describes Rings Of Saturn's 'Lugal Ki En' as phone-droppingly awful; Matt Nightingale thinks Fallujah's 'Dreamless' is very good; Rory Fallis recommends Pissgrave's 'Suicide Euphoria' as a lovely soundtrack for a day trip to the Field of Scattered Bones; and Quinn Greene gets totally stoked on Gruesome's 'Savage Land' and its awesome tribute to Death! All of this, plus: Is Seinfeld a conduit for Satan? Would Cookie Monster tripping balls make for good metal vocals? And documented proof that Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt is the funniest man in metal. Cooooool times!!!

Our Metallica episode is finally here! And to celebrate, we brought aboard our good pal and old-school metalhead, Ken Lawson! Not only do the three of us talk pretty much Metallica's entire discography, we also make a plethora of bizarre allusions to other bands, including but not limited to: Gary Glitter, The Postal Service, Blink-182, Chris Isaac, and the Misfits! We also talk about that time Metallica should have broken up, vans with barbarian ladies air-brushed on the side, Bob Rock's silky-soft hair, creatures with wah-wah pedal voices, and how 'Lulu' is the clamato juice of records. Between the heaps of praise for 'Ride The Lightning' and major disses for 'St. Anger', we find the time to dish out a couple linguini high-fives and get real about Napster. All this, and Ken gets a charley horse! It's the Metallica show! (The producers of this podcast do not endorse the placement of metal into any bodily orifice.)

In this episode we: Roll up some jazz cabbage and talk about Weedeater's cool carny vocals; Blaze some Devil's lettuce and talk about how Sleep makes you want to put out burning pillows with wet blankets; Puff on a left-handed cigarette and talk about the Melvins creating a visceral, two-drummer-induced dreamlike state; Dole out some dank-ass nugs and talk about how Kylesa's worth a road trip to Georgia; AND become total weed-heads talking about Mastodon leggings and how much the book Moby Dick totally, totally sucks. Plus we discuss Fraz's famous Napalm Death hoodie, Devin's famous Maui shirt, and answer Twitter questions! It's the Stoner/Sludge episode! Congrats, Julian!

We run down the band's entire discography, as well as partake in some big-time mask talk (which members' masks need daily uncorking, anyway?), pitch a Slipknot cartoon, and discuss how the band was the exact metal gateway drug the early-00's needed. Fraz celebrates Devin's tastes getting heavier, and finds the time to have a complete breakdown and make up a few words again. All this, and Devin gets a parcel delivered! So fun! We also try to pronounce 'anthropocene', watch a video of a cow taking a dump on a guy's head, and make references to Launchpad McQuack AND Roch Voisine - all in one show!! More uncomfortable than falling asleep on pile of lock boxes, more terrifying than Kelowna: Land of the Stilt-Walkers, it's the grindcore episode! (Spoiler: the drums are fast.) We also talk about which kind of covers album Slayer should tackle next, metal bands consisting solely of Disney villains, and how, at the end of the day, Slayer is as beautiful as nature. Also, Devin gets Fraz into Mclusky, we define the term 'break-neck', and invent the term 'over-orcing'. We talk Entombed, Cannibal Corpse, At The Gates, Death, Carcass, and so much more! We come up with some sweet ideas for Cannibal Corpse merch (don't steal them), and wonder which death metal band is the richest (monetarily, not in grotesque imagery; that would really be splitting hairs). Plus Devin does his best impression of an owl laughing, and Fraz dishes out a gold star (or is it a pentagram?)! EPIC.
