This week we're tying up some loose ends by discussing the world is still here and so are we, the reunion album by mclusky. This is a reunion neither of us saw coming, but is shaping up to be one of the most memorable musical moments of the year. If you're a mclusky fan, chances are you won't be disappointed by this album. It's as fun, wild, and unpredictable as we've come to expect from these guys. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patreon https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumever Merch https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/ Mike's EP: Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple, Mike on Instagram @pandermonkey Alex on Bluesky @octatron3030 Tom on Instagram @tomosmansounds History Tom's stuff: Music on Spotify, Apple Podcast on Spotify, YouTube Substack Website
andrew "falco" falkous discusses the reformation of his band mclusky after a nearly 20-year hiatus, their upcoming album on ipecac recordings, the rare catalogue of vinyl releases and more! Topics Include: falco confirms mclusky's new album "the world is still here and so are we." album will be released on may 9th on ipecac recordings. falco feels ipecac is the perfect label home for mclusky. he hopes this is just the end of "act one" for their reunion. falco approaches life expecting problems but finding humor in them. humor is essential to mclusky's songs without becoming a joke band. falco keeps files of potential song titles for future use. songs usually emerge from playing together in the same room. first takes often contain the magic that makes songs special. falco writes most lyrics but damien wrote lyrics for two songs. "your mother is a ballpoint pen thief" came naturally in writing process. falco describes songwriting as writing 1000 bad songs to get 10 good ones. performing gives falco confidence he doesn't have in other social settings. the current mclusky lineup consistently delivers intense live performances. "mclusky do dallas" remains their most popular album by far. steve albini recorded both "do dallas" and "the difference between me and you..." "lightsaber cocksucking blues" started as a throwaway whole lotta rosie parody. the line "flying is fearful of me" just emerged while performing. "she will only bring you happiness" had radio potential until "sex criminal" line. self-sabotage is part of mclusky's essence, even when unintentional. falco considers swearing an essential part of rock music. australia has been mclusky's strongest market since early in their career. melbourne, sydney and brisbane show strongest streaming numbers for mclusky. the band has toured australia approximately ten times since 2002. prescriptions music is falco's label for future of the left and christian fitness. falco considers mclusky "mostly my band" but credits all members' contributions. damien sayell (current bassist) recently recovered from a health scare. jack egglestone (drummer) has jazz training and remarkable listening skills. mclusky reunion began with charity shows for venues like le pub in newport. the current lineup feels like a distinct band, not future of the left playing mclusky songs. recording the new album was spread across three weekends over 18 months. bob weston remastered "mclusky do dallas" giving it a different sheen. future of the left albums and more christian fitness reissues are planned. their favorite songs on the new album are those recorded most recently. the name "mclusky" came from a character in british tv show "grange hill." order the new mclusky album here commercial free, high resolution version of this podcast is available at: www.patreon.com/VinylGuide listen on apple: https://apple.co/2Y6ORU0 listen on spotify: https://spoti.fi/36qhlc8
Welcome to a special collaborative episode of "Beyond the Thesis with Papa PhD" featuring Sarah McClusky, host of the Research Adjacent podcast. In this conversation, David Mendes sits down with Sarah to explore the often overlooked world of research-adjacent careers—the roles, paths, and opportunities for PhDs and researchers beyond traditional academic tracks. Sarah draws on her extensive experience as a freelance consultant, trainer, and facilitator, sharing her journey from plant pathology and biochemistry into the wide-ranging ecosystem of research support, management, and communication. She candidly discusses the challenges many graduate students face as they near the end of their degree, offering practical advice on how to identify and leverage transferable skills, tell compelling stories in job applications, and confidently step into new professional spaces. Together, David and Sarah shine a light on the diverse roles that make research successful—from grant managers to science communicators, policy advisors, and beyond—and discuss why these careers, though sometimes hidden, are valuable, fulfilling, and increasingly essential in the research landscape. Sarah McClusky is an editor and podcast contributor passionate about bridging the gap between academia and research-adjacent careers. On her podcast, Sarah empowers listeners with practical advice about navigating non-traditional roles, highlighting the importance of concrete examples over generic claims. Drawing from her own experience earning a PhD and leading outreach projects with local schoolchildren, she demonstrates how storytelling and real-life accomplishments can make candidates stand out. Sarah's approach guides job seekers to focus on teamwork, problem-solving, and tangible impacts—key qualities she believes matter most beyond degrees and qualifications.

Hugh Dillon is a man of many talents, including acting, writing and rocking -- the latter done with his band, Headstones. The acting writing and producing skills were put to the test this third season on the Paramount+ drama Mayor of Kingstown. Dillon and his series co-creator Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone; Tulsa King) made it their mission to put their lead, Jeremy Renner, firmly back on his feet again after the actor suffered a horrible accident in January of 2023. Renner's Mayor "Mike" McLusky spends most episodes racing from crisis to crisis as he tries to settle gang wars that are constantly errupting in his prison town. Viewers will see McLusky pick up right where he left off at the end of Season 2, with Renner showing no signs of the damage he suffered as a result of being crushed under a seven ton snow plow.On this episode, Dillon also references his former series, Flashpoint, his years growing up in his own prison town, Kingston, Ont., and his new album with the Headstones.
Sometimes there is no 'Plan B'.On this very special episode we get back into the TV of things as the 3rd Season of 'Mayor of Kingstown' is now rolling out on Paramount Plus. The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.Starring the one and only Jeremy Renner and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Canada's own Hugh Dillon, this is a character crime drama that is earning it's credibility in the genre along side some of the greats in TV lore.We had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with co-creator and co-star Hugh Dillon to talk about the challenges heading into Season 3, and appreciating the "fun" of being an actor and a storyteller.
On this episode of The Movie Podcast, Daniel and Anthony are joined by Special Guest Hugh Dillon, Co-Creator and Lead of MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN, a Paramount+ series also co-created by Taylor Sheridan. The series follows Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) and the McLusky family – power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Hugh plays Ian Ferguson, a seasoned, hard-nosed detective for the Kingstown Police Department. Hugh also starred in five seasons of the Canadian iconic series Flashpoint and went on to appear in Durham County, Wind River, as well as Yellowstone. Hugh also voiced the character Nick in Valve's Left 4 Dead 2. Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown airs on Paramount+ every Sunday beginning June 2, 2024. The legend of McLusky has grown greatly since the the group's initial breakup in 2005. The release of the three-disc Mcluskyism compilation is no doubt reasonable for much of that prolonged success. So, too, are the members' post-McLusky projects, including Future of the Left. Formed by ex-members Andrew Falkous and Jack Egglestone shortly after breakup, the group carried on its tradition of sardonic and melodic noise rock. Falkous and Egglestone reformed McLusky in 2014. The group's second stint is officially longer than its first as of 2024. The group is currently in the midst of an American tour, postponed by two years, due to Falkous' health issues. Here he discusses all of that and more. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've paired the frontmen for two gruff-sounding, kinda scary noise-rock bands, but who as it turns out are a couple of sweethearts: David Yow and Andrew Falkous. David Yow began his music life in the Texas band Scratch Acid, which built its own legend before burning out in the mid-1980s, and then took his maniacal presence to The Jesus Lizard. That band built a following in the next dozen years both for its confrontational music and for Yow's intensity in their live shows. You'd often find him drunk and half-naked, howling into the faces of stunned crowds. First you were scared, and then you loved it. The Jesus Lizard benefited from the grunge explosion in the mid-1990s, but they were always too weird and scary for the mainstream—even when they got an inexplicable major-label deal with Capitol. (You know, home of the Beatles.) The Jesus Lizard split in 1999, but have reunited a few times since then, with demand for Yow's insanity peaking every few years. There hasn't been a Jesus Lizard show in a few years, though—or a “reenactment” as he calls their reunion shows—but Yow has been out recently singing for the early noise-punk band Flipper. You may also have seen him in bit parts in a few movies; the guy has led a varied, full life so far. Andrew Falkous unfortunately just had to postpone his own US tour-slash-reenactment with his band Mclusky, which was originally active from the mid-90s until 2006. An illness has affected his Falkous' ability to sing, but he's planning to reschedule very soon. In the years after Mclusky, Falkous made similarly brutish-but-incredible records both as the frontman of a band called Future of the Left and as a sort-of-solo artist under the name Christian Fitness. But as the legend of Mclusky snowballed and the 20th anniversary of their absolute classic of a second album Mclusky Do Dallas approached, he was coaxed to relaunch the name and to play those old songs again. Here's hoping for a quick recovery and new dates soon. Here's a little taste of what was certainly Mclusky's biggest song, the charmingly titled “Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues.” In this spirited conversation, Yow and Falkous start by talking about Falkous' recent battles with his own voice. They get into the nervousness of playing your first-ever show as a singer: Yow dealt with the jitters by handing out tabs of acid to the crowd, while Falkous wore a yellow T-shirt. They talk about beer and whether Australian children should be forced to live in wells. Yow casually slaughters some sacred cows of the alterna-rock world. And lest you think they're too tough for their own good, you should know that I edited out 15 minutes where they talked about how much they love their cats. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Andrew Falkous and David Yow for chatting. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

Some bands make fans wait years between albums, and others have been very consistent with rolling out new releases. Early aughts groups Hot Chip and Silversun Pickups fall into the ladder category, dropping a new album like clockwork every two or three years. On this week's Indiecast episode, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen share their thoughts on Hot Chip's latest LP Freakout/Release (33:56) and Silversun Pickups' new project Physical Thrills (24:53), two albums which rely heavily on synths. The biggest indie news of this week came from a band no one has heard much from in over 15 years: McLusky. The Welsh group officially disbanded in 2005, but they just announced they're going on a North American tour this fall (41:45). Indiecast also discusses the 25th anniversary of Oasis' Be Here Now, partially reigniting the Blur vs. Oasis britpop discourse (47:39).In this week's Recommendation Corner (57:05), Ian tells listeners to check out Spielbergs' new album Vestli. Meanwhile, Steven endorses Cass McCombs' tenth studio album Heartmind.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 102 and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
