Hello and welcome listeners to Episode 339 of Journey with a Cinephile: A Horror Movie Podcast. In this episode, your tour guide, David Garrett Jr., continues Scouring through the Sixes for episode 3. The first featured review is The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936). I'm pairing this up with Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026). This double feature has the domestic monster as the theme with the violation of sanctuary. A barber is a service provider turned horror. The other is ancient forces invading the modern, lived-in space of home that is supposed to be safe. I also got to see these films for Mini-Reviews: Critters (1986), Souls Chapel (2026), Beyond Mamushi (2026) and Obex (2025). Plus two documentaries of This is GWAR (2021) and Terror in the Skies (2019). I hope you enjoy coming on this journey with me!Time Codes:Intro: 0:00 - 10:45Mini-Reviews: 13:15 - 38:15The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Trailer: 38:15 - 40:56The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Review: 40:56 - 51:58Lee Cronin's The Mummy Trailer: 51:58 - 54:25Lee Cronin's The Mummy Review: 54:25 - 1:06:08Outro: 1:07:38 - 1:10:09Social Media:Email: journeywithacinephile@gmail.comWritten Reviews: https://horrorreview.webnode.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dgarrettjrTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/buckeyefrommichLetterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/davidosu/Instagram: davidosu87Threads: davidosu87Journey with a Cinephile Instagram: journeywithacinephileThe Night Club Discord: Journey with a CinephileJoin Screamify: https://shorturl.at/Z6b9l

In this episode, Rex and Duff are tracking the pulse of modern metal. We start with a deep dive into the absolute best of the newest releases, breaking down the crushing weight of Immolation's Descent and the relentless thrash energy of Nervosa's Slave Machine. Then, the stakes get high as we kick off a new set of "King of the Mountain." We're putting our personal favorites on the line to see which tracks and live experiences can hold the peak. This leads us into a celebration of the masters of the stage: GWAR and Iron Maiden. We're discussing the chaos of GWAR's "Gor-Gor Strikes Back" tour and the massive, career-spanning energy of Maiden's "Run For Your Lives" world tour as well as why we love some of our favorite tracks by both bands.
Things Discussed: Best Michigan team ever? Seth: This team would destroy any previous Michigan team. The game gets better, the training gets better, the strategy gets better. They played together like they were together four years. Championships are not easy. This team vs Fab Five: Fabs had to score at the rim, and you can't do that against this team. 1989 team? The way Rice was shooting they could beat anybody, and they had more shooting. 2013 team? They were so good offensively but they'd need a ridiculous shooting day from the backcourt. Remember they didn't let Terry shoot threes, but perhaps he developed that in the NBA. The refs hated the Fabs so much more than this team too, and they didn't really have a developed post game until Juwan was a junior. But imagine if you could put college C-Webb on a modern team, making him a switchable five? Oh man he'd be so good now. This is the next evolution of hoops: consistent twos are better than threes, because threes will die on you. Hunter S. Thompson: Sports journalist. Loy = Morez? No. Program golden age? They're going to continue to be very good, but this year will be among the best. It took a lot of luck to have a guy like Mara going unused by Mick Cronin and have a guy like Yaxel who's the best player of last year who wasn't in the NBA this year. It gets harder to rebuild this team, because even Izzo is in the portal for rim protectors. The market at the rim has gone way up after they saw this team. JP Estrella will help them on ORebs: he was one of the best on that team of bears. Break: Our what-might-have-been team: Sam's is Kelly Baraka, Seth's is Antonio Bass as Rich Rod's 2008 QB. Football: Hiter hype is off the charts. Sam thinks he's going to be an amazing zone runner. Reliving Najee Harris: there were two flights; he was sitting next to Tua Tagovailoa on the other one, so you can't criticize him too much. Sounds like a really good OL: Sam takes his Frazier victory lap. Gwar and Sprague and Norton, LG is Link, Efobi or Gach. How much will they run the QB? 1) They flipped an Illinois commit, and 2) Whittingham's an Urban Meyer assistant.

Send us Fan MailA rainbow on the screen kicks off a chain reaction that turns into the kind of hangout only an unscripted podcast can pull off. We start by thanking the listeners who keep The Talkers Podcast Unscripted alive, then we slide straight into real-life talk that's oddly useful: haircuts, grooming routines, and why Suavecito pomade has become our go-to for hold and style. We even get into where to find it, what products are worth trying, and why small upgrades can make a normal workweek feel more put together. Then Remo jumps in and the conversation opens up into live entertainment and the modern cost of fun. We talk heavy metal shows, stage theatrics, and the sticker shock of concert tickets, touching on bands like Gwar, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Slayer, and Lamb of God. From there we nerd out on the idea of building our own internet radio station and what it really takes to play music legally, manage playlists, and create a talk-and-music format that feels like classic radio without the fake DJ voice. We also get into Disneyland planning, including California Adventure Food and Wine strategy, bringing snacks, and how to survive a day of rides without getting wrecked by overpriced food. And because life always interrupts, we vent about Wi-Fi outages, streaming problems, and why service bills keep climbing. The back half turns more serious with debates about protests, consequences, and the impossible job of knowing what's real online in the AI era, plus some thoughts on California politics and what LA28 Olympics preparation might mean for the city.If you like comedy banter, pop culture, real talk, and zero-script chaos, hit play, subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review so more people can find the show.Suavecito All hair types and textures. Hi and welcome to another episode of The Talk Music Podcast! What does it take to build a global rock career—from underground scenes to arena stages? This episode dives deep with WALLY VAN MIDDENDORP a powerhouse music executive whose fingerprints are all over the international rock and alternative landscape. Now based in London and working with In De Goot Management as Senior Vice President, International, with a roster that includes Shinedown, Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry, GWAR, and Canadians Theory of a Deadman, Wally shares insight into international strategy, bridging U.S. and European operations and the growing success of artists selling merch and physical goods. But his story goes far beyond management. Wally has held top roles across the industry—from SVP International at Roadrunner Records working closely with founder Cees Wessels to General Manager of Sony Music Netherlands, as well as GM of the prestigious PIAS label AKA Play It Again Sam in the Benelux where we actually met when I signed Voivod to the label for European distribution. Our chat includes his early beginnings—when, in his teenage years, he was president of the David Bowie fan club—and his time as an artist himself, fronting the pioneering Dutch post-punk band MINNY POPS who opened for Slash and Joy Division. We also touch on his time spent with Lars Ulrich and working with acts such as Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, Mötley Crüe, Alterbridge and many others. From leading European operations to shaping global marketing strategies, his career is a masterclass in how music moves across borders and audiences. If you're a fan of great music stories, this episode is packed with them.Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week on The Heavy Metal Hangover, Rex and Duff are taking a page out of the Airheads playbook. We're dissecting that classic line—"Maybe a gimmick would help"—and looking at the bands that actually pulled it off. We're peeling back the layers on the heavy hitters who bet big on their image, from the foam-covered chaos of GWAR and the evolving masks of Slipknot to the Satanic stagecraft of Ghost. We dive into the mechanics of the metal masquerade: Does a great gimmick build a legacy, or is it just a distraction from the riffs? We also explore "Theme Gimmicks," checking out the historical warfare of Sabaton and the pirate-plundering of Alestorm. We're debating if a band can ever truly "take off the mask" once they've hit it big, or if the gimmick eventually becomes the boss. Join us as we find out if a leather suit and a monster mask are really the keys to the kingdom!
We are back with Bud Light and KitKat Heists, a GWAR recap, and a kid governor. We have Can't Beat Cassiday, maple mysteries, fraud plans, and the Sticks and Balls Report. Cass gets us ready to eat with a round of real or fake stadium foods for MLB season. Support the show and follow us here Twitter, Insta, Apple, Amazon, Spotify and the Edge! We kick things off with a little history lesson from Rob from his past working at a record label with GWAR, Powerman 5000 and others. We learn of an interesting connection between Jessica Simpson, Chuck Norris and Barney the Dinosaur. We then discover a story about a quadruple amputee who murdered another person. There is a new local Brooklyn character going viral and we had to disseminate him. Plus, Vinnie Vincent wants HOW MUCH for his new album?LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL with feedback or any questions. For most of his career, Bonner Kramer has been known in underground music circles by only his surname, as his imprint has been deep and wide enough that only that sobriquet has been necessary. Starting in New York City in the late 70’s and into the 80’s, he was a member of several seminal bands of the era including New York Gong and Bongwater, and played in the Butthole Surfers, Ween, Half Japanese, The Fugs, and with John Zorn. As a producer, he has worked with Galaxie 500 (whose entire catalog he produced), Low, Half Japanese, Gwar, Will Oldham, Daniel Johnston, and Urge Overkill, and founded the Shimmy Disc label. He’ll perform at this year’s Big Ears Festival both by himself, as well as with Thurston Moore and Mark Nelson of Pan-American, respectively, in March of 2026. On this episode, hear how songs sung by Billie Holliday, Gavin Bryars, and Robert Wyatt informed his work.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What do you get when you combine two Canadian music lifers into one guitar-heavy power-pop unit that still believes in volume, melody, and sweat? You get SLIP~ons. Fronted by Brock Pytel of Montreal pop-punk staples Doughboys and anchored by Brian Minato, longtime bassist for Sarah McLachlan, the Vancouver four-piece make rock music the honest way. Plug in. Turn it up. Let it rip. Their sophomore EP Overtime arrives February 20, 2026 via Scamindy. SLIP~ons aim straight for the sweet spot where 90s alternative heft meets power-pop immediacy. Think Sugar-era Bob Mould muscle, Hüsker Dü urgency, and the loose confidence of The Replacements, with flashes of Ash and Dinosaur Jr. in the guitar tones. Rounded out by Rob “Shockk” Matharu of The Spitfires on guitar and Shane Wilson on drums, the band plays with instinct and economy. Nothing is overthought. Everything hits when it's supposed to. Overtime takes its title from the sudden-death hockey period, used here as an extended metaphor for pressure, consequence, and the moment when everything sharpens. The EP leans heavier and more focused than the band's debut, pairing Pytel's gravel-edged vocals with punchy, direct arrangements that waste zero time. The lyrics widen their scope too. Politics surface naturally, filtered through experience rather than slogans. As Pytel puts it, “I made it all the way through side A without a single song about a breakup.” The shift is subtle but intentional, and it gives the record real weight. The EP was recorded by John Raham at Afterlife, formerly Mushroom Studios, a room steeped in Canadian music history. Raham's resume includes work with Frazey Ford, Dan Mangan, Tanya Tagaq, Destroyer, and Pharis, and his approach here keeps the performances immediate while giving the songs room to move. Mixing duties were handled by Dave Ogilvie of Skinny Puppy, whose touch adds grit and tension without sanding off the edges. Overtime was mastered by Ronan Chris Murphy, whose work spans artists such as King Crimson, Ulver, and Gwar, bringing clarity and punch while preserving the EP's raw, guitar-forward bite. This hour, Boomer defends Aaron Glenn's future with the Jets and asks if the Giants can pull a "worst-to-first" turnaround with the right coach. Plus, Jaxson Dart's future with Malik Nabers, the Jets' historic lack of interceptions, and a legendary "Moment of the Day" from Dart's dad. We wrap it all up with our Week 18 NFL Picks!

The hour kicks off with Boomer hilariously comparing the band GWAR to the Ninja Turtles and Kiss. Then, a caller brings the focus back to Mets anxiety: losing homegrown Pete Alonso would hurt worse than any free-agent miss. As Boomer assures listeners the Mets will spend, Jerry returns with an update featuring Sal Licata shouting "Good Riddance" to Edwin Díaz and an infuriated Frank The Tank. Closing the hour, Troy Aikman blasts the state of NIL, revealing he's "done" giving money after not even receiving a thank you note. Utah sells a piece of its athletic department to a private equity firm.

Nick welcomes music journalist Jim Ryan from Forbes.com back to the show for a deep dive into music, madness, and metal. They preview this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and trade stories from Jim's recent interviews with legends like Rob Halford of Judas Priest — including Halford's hilarious tale about the best massage he's ever had in Chicago's Boys Town — plus Marky Ramone, Emo Phillips, and the chaotic geniuses of GWAR. Jim also recaps Riot Fest, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, and more, while he and Nick swap some wild and heartfelt Shane MacGowan memories. Then, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to break down Hollywood's strangest casting choices, from Angelina Jolie somehow playing Colin Farrell's mother to Tom Cruise trying to fill the massive boots of Jack Reacher. Turns out, suspension of disbelief only stretches so far. [Ep 396]
