Pleased to've met Jeremiah James Gonzales and learned all about Redder Moon for Episode #158. Redder Moon's blend of gothic new-wave/post-punk can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and Bandcamp. They've got something in the neighborhood of eight releases available to check out, including a single from late last year, with more stuff coming soon.Jeremiah was kind enough to share a portion of an evening in January with me, and I enjoyed hearing about his songwriting, recording, and band history. We talked about growing up, family, friends, and a few of his favorite albums, too, which were these:Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988), Iron MaidenThe Cure's Disintegration (1989)Angel Dust (1992), Faith No MoreInterpol's Turn on the Bright Lights (2002)Badass Records podcast episodes air Thursdays where you stream and on YouTube. “If Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell…” You've heard of movies based on books, but what about albums based on books? IRON MAIDEN's seventh studio album, SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON, released on April 11, 1988, is inspired by Orson Scott Card's 1987 novel “Seventh Son” and is their first official “keyboard” album, confirming IRON MAIDEN's progressive metal mastery as one of the finest progressive metal albums of all time. Get ready to take on an army of “Roided up Roos” who are “boxing the trees” and always remember the following: “there's no such thing as bad publicity”, “you can't push a rope” and the odds of 2 different people asking the exact same question within a day or two is not just some “random coincidence”. Understand why “Steve Harris with distortion” is almost as weird as “Slayer with keyboards”, find out “who's the outfielder?”, discover the secret code behind “French Toast and Waffle Dust”, and tell all the Trans-Ams and Transformers you know that “I measure from my middle back” before you JOIN US for a dive into “the heart of prog Maiden” with IRON MAIDEN's progressive metal magnum opus, SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON. The drama, suffering and fascism are in the past, but traumas surface in the day-to-day, with first loves and lost chances.Sebastian Faulks (Birdsong, Human Traces, The Seventh Son) chooses The Zone of Interest by Martin Amis, after watching the hit film by Jonathan Glazer and wanting to read the book it was inspired by. The haunting novel follows a Nazi officer who has become enamoured with the Auschwitz camp commandant's wife, and goes inside the minds of the commandant, who lives with his family right next to the concentration camp.Harriett Gilbert brings Eastbound by Maylis de Kerangal, a gripping novella set on the Trans-Siberian Railway, with a chance encounter between a desperate Russian conscript and a French woman.Produced by Eliza Lomas for BBC Audio Bristol Join the conversation on Instagram @bbcagoodread

In today's episode we're chatting with Ben Barnes. This British actor (and skilled musician) has charmed audiences as the heroic prince in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and surprised them as the enigmatic Logan Delos in HBO's science fiction thriller Westworld. His love for storytelling began early: on stage performing with the National Youth Music Theatre. Since then his career has told the story of an artist who possesses true grit, a love for craft, and a desire to explore whatever he hasn't done. He shares how blind persistence landed him his first agent, and how a secret injury helped him create one of his most recognizable roles. For Ben, perspective and perseverance is key. Moving through the peaks and valleys of this industry requires trusting what you have to offer and choosing to be empowered regardless of circumstance. And that's exactly what Ben continues to do. His work includes an array of diverse film and TV credits such as Easy Virtue, By The Gun, Seventh Son, Big Wedding, Sons of Liberty, The Punisher, Gold Digger and a lead role on Netflix's soon to be series Shadow and Bone. El álbum contenía canciones clásicas como "Phantom of the Opera" y "Running Free". En 1982, el tercer álbum, "The Number of the Beast", catapultó a Iron Maiden a la fama internacional. El álbum incluía éxitos como "Run to the Hills" y la canción principal, "The Number of the Beast". En 1999, Bruce Dickinson y Adrian Smith regresaron a Iron Maiden, y la banda lanzó álbumes exitosos como "Brave New World" (2000) y "Dance of Death" (2003). Álbumes posteriores incluyen "The Final Frontier" (2010), "The Book of Souls" (2015) y "Senjutsu" (2021). The French archaeologist Ludovic Slimak has spent three decades uncovering evidence of ancient human life. In The Naked Neanderthal (translated by David Watson) he explores the last great extinction of a humanity that died out at the very moment Homo Sapiens expanded across the earth. The ingenuity, compassion and cruelty of Homo Sapiens are at the centre of Sebastian Faulks's new novel, The Seventh Son. As scientists develop methods to genetically alter the human race, ethical questions arise, as do questions about how humans respond to difference. The American playwright Lauren Gunderson interrogates our relationship with AI in her new play, Anthropology, at the Hampstead Theatre, London (to 14th October). When Angie goes missing, presumed dead, her grieving sister Merril assembles the digital footprint she left behind, and builds herself a digital simulation. Producer: Katy Hickman
I interview Mark Dawson about “The Red Room” and interview Fulton Ross about “The Unforgiven Dead”. Plus I review “The Lie Maker” By Linwood Barclay, “The Shadow Cabinet” By Juno Dawson and “The Seventh Son” by Sebastian Faulks. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Novelist Sebastian Faulks has the rare quality of being both literary and popular. He's best known for his historical novels set in France, and in particular, Birdsong, adapted for the screen and starring Eddie Redmayne. Now for the first time Faulks has ventured into the future - but not very far - setting his latest novel from 2030, beginning with an experiment at an IVF clinic which challenges ethical boundaries. His 16th novel, The Seventh Son is out now.
Catriona Ferguson reviews The Seventh Son by Sebastian Faulks published by Penguin Random House
Bestselling author, Sebastian Faulks, joins Simon and Matt for a chinwag about his latest novel, 'The Seventh Son'. The book is set in a not-too-distant future, which is a departure for Sebastian who we know mainly for his historical fiction. In this episode we discuss this brilliant new novel (without spoilers, we think) and where his inspiration for it came from. We learn about the incredible amount of research he had to undertake to be able to write the book, and see if we can guess who some of his characters are based on! Here comes the science bit: A child will be born who will change everything. When a young woman named Talissa answers an advert to carry a child, she cannot begin to imagine the consequences. Behind the doors of the Parn Institute, a billionaire entrepreneur plans to stretch the boundaries of ethics as never before. Through a series of IVF treatments, one they hope no one ever discovers, they set in motion an experiment that is set to upend the human race as we know it. Seth, a baby, is delivered to hopeful parents Mary and Alaric, but when his differences start to mark him out from his peers, he begins to attract unwanted attention. The Seventh Son is a spectacular examination of what it is to be human. Sweeping between New York, London, and the Scottish Highlands, this is an extraordinary novel about unrequited love and unearned power. It asks the question: just because you can do something, does it mean you should? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In our second part of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Bledd and Sam spend far too much time analysing one of Iron Maiden's most renowned albums. But does it live up to the hype? I mean, yes. Obvs. But still, let's talk about why it's so good.
This week, we talk about great multi guitar band, The cult classic CB4 and the wonderful Iron Maiden album, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Oh brother..... --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ohnonotthempod/support
Only a week later than originally billed, Sam and Bledd dive in to Maiden's proggiest album to date - Seventh Son of A Seventh Son. Is it actually that proggy? Is it even a concept album? Who knows - the only thing we're sure of is there'll be synths galore.

Iron Maiden are one of the biggest bands in the world, touring the planet in their own customized 747 flown by lead singer Bruce Dickinson. But in 1983, Maiden were still forging their way, trying to solidify their lineup and making their name through relentless touring. After the success of Number of the Beast, the band wanted to take things to the next level and with the addition of Nicko McBrain on drums they finally had their classic lineup set which is still intact today. Thanks to Nicko on the skins, the confidence and power of vocalist Bruce Dickinson, the sci-fi lyrics and extraordinary bass of leader Steve Harris and the frantic guitar licks of Dave Murray & Adrian Smith, Iron Maiden had the lineup that would set them on a course for global superstardom. Piece of Mind would be the first of 5 legendary albums from this lineup in the 1980s and the 5 of them would reunite in 2000 (along with 3rd guitarist Janick Gers) to reclaim their thrones as the ultimate heavy metal band. They're still going today and The Wolf & Action Jackson will be catching their Future Past Tour in Europe this summer. From Nicko's incredible drum work on Where Eagles Dare to Bruce's haunting vocals on Revelations to the ultimate Maiden runner with The Trooper, this album showcases the talent of all in the band. For once, they actually received airplay on US radio and The Trooper charted (unlike the 1st single The Flight of Icarus). Despite no love from MTV, the album went platinum in the US and the fans turned out in droves for their 130+ date tour. We go track by track, think about it in comparison to the other Iron Maiden albums we've reviewed over the years (#14 Live After Death, #38 Somewhere in Time, #39 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, #65 Number of the Beast, #66 Fear of the Dark, plus #48 review of Bruce Dickinson speaking tour) and discuss how this was the real beginning of the band we love.
