Yes, it has been 50-years. Jaws came to theatres on this date and is being celebrated throughout the world. We pay our respects by talking about the new book "Robert Shaw: An Actor's Life on the set of Jaws and Beyond." Author Christopher Shaw Myers offers an intimate portrait of his legendary uncle, the acclaimed actor and writer best known for his unforgettable role as Quint in Jaws. Today marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's iconic blockbuster starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw as the weather seaman, Captain Quint.
Today we look back at the 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, in celebration of its 50 year anniversary. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife.Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
Robert Shaw's nephew CHRISTOPHER SHAW MYERS, author of ROBERT SHAW: An Actor's Life on the Set of JAWS and Beyond - Chris spoke to Bill about the book. and JAWS - first narrative biography of Robert Shaw, written by his nephew, bringing fresh insight into the life of the celebrated actor
ROBERT SHAW: An Actor's Life on the Set of JAWS and Beyond is the first narrative biography of Robert Shaw, written by his nephew, Christopher Shaw Myers, bringing fresh insight into the life of the celebrated actor. The biography is timed to the 50th Anniversary of JAWS this summer; Universal is bringing the film back to first-run theatres just in time for (gulp!) beach season.A true Renaissance man, Robert Shaw's professional success on the screen, stage, and page are just one part of his multifaceted story. From his childhood as a Brit in Orkney, Robert was a natural leader who had a penchant for performing. Despite stacked successes both on and off the stage-he was one of the few people to receive both an Oscar nomination for acting and a Tony nomination for writing-international fame eluded him until the breakout of JAWS.Myers also offers a revealing look at the forces that shaped such a dynamic individual, including Shaw's childhood during World War II, his indomitable mother, his activist sister, and the traumatic events of their childhood that led to Shaw's lifelong battle with alcohol addiction.Shaw cut his teeth in the London theatre, acting alongside such legendary Shakespearian stalwarts as Sir John Gielgud, Sir Alec Guiness, and Sir Michael Redgrave. He was nominated for an Oscar (A Man for All Seasons) and dyed his hair blond as James Bond's nemesis in To Russia With Love. He developed his craft moving between stage, screen, and television. He helped Paul Newman and Robert Redford turn The Sting into Academy Award gold. But it was Shaw's unforgettable role in the astounding success of JAWS, the groundbreaking film that became the first "summer blockbuster" which transformed American film forever. With genre-bending innovation and revolutionary revenue as the first movie to exceed $100 million in the U.S. box office, JAWS was, and remains, a legendary touchstone in pop culture. The film's iconic USS Indianapolis monologue was written by Shaw himself and had fans scrambling to their history books to learn more about this gruesome moment in military history. "Anyway, we delivered the bomb."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, turns 50 this month. Chief Brody, played by Roy Scheider, is pulled in multiple directions after a fatal shark attack, and subsequent murders, none of which the town's local leaders take seriously. When Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss, comes into the picture, the two of them unite with the hope of getting to the bottom of the situation, with factual, scientific accuracy in mind. Hooper and Brody as outsiders, not locals, eventually team up with Robert Shaw's Quint to hunt down the shark, and end the beast's terror. Lisa Lake, a killer designer, awesome photographer, and drone pilot, vividly remembers seeing Jaws in the theatre and hadn't seen it since then, but she re-watched it for this episode.-With over twenty years of creative experience, Lisa Lake is a photographer, graphic designer, and drone pilot who delivers marketing and advertising, logos and dynamic websites, ad campaigns, pro-level photography, and video. Happy Monday, yo! We've got much warmer temps headed our way later this week. Definitely see a firepit in my future this weekend. In the news this morning, a recall on Johnsonville Brats, the construction on Highway 16 begins this week, authorities are still looking for one of the two missing boaters in the Dells, a woman who is serving a life sentence for killing & dismembering a man in 2022 violently attacked her attorney in court the other day, and a the popular "Torpedo Bats" are keeping Dingbat Bats in Verona busier than normal. In sports, the Bucks beat the Pelicans yesterday for their 4th straight win and are also in the playoffs, the Brewers took three out of four from the Reds this weekend, the UConn women's basketball team won it's 12th National Championship over the weekend, and the men's National Championship game is tonight on CBS. Elsewhere in sports, Alexander Ovechkin finally passed Wayne Gretzky yesterday with his 895th career goal, Denny Hamlin got a win yesterday in the throwback paint schemes, and Vlad Guerrero Jr. is getting PAID by the Blue Jays. We talked about what's on TV tonight and played a shower-edition of "Who'd You Rather?" Plus, a very sad cat was reunited with it's original owner, and a kid had some random strangers help him celebrate his 8th birthday while at a park. Today is National Beer Day, so we looked at what states have the cheapest cases of beer, and A recent survey found that one out of every fifty people think they could beat a horse in a 100-meter dash. As if. Check out this parachutist who got stuck on the roof of a stadium while trying to deliver the game ball for a rugby match. Luckily, he wasn't injured in the accident. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a naked man in a Dollar Store, a guy who got an odd parking ticket, a man named "Speedy Gonzalez" who has robbed multiple Walmarts, a dude who had his emotional support tigers seized by law enforcement, and a #FloridaWoman who got busted for banging in a graveyard. A little past midnight on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis, a US Navy cruiser, had just delivered the uranium that would be used in the first nuclear bomb dropped on Japan, and was returning to the Philippines when it was struck by a Japanese torpedo. The ship was badly damaged in the attack and within ten minutes it rolled onto its side, dumping 890 crewmen into the pitch-black ocean and dragging the remaining 300 down with the ship. Those who survived the torpedo strike did what they could to grab supplies before abandoning ship, but there were very few life boats or life jackets, so many of the sailors had to float in the water or cling to the few rafts they did manage to take before jumping from the boat. To make matters worse, their mission had been highly confidential and no one in the Navy knew where the Indianapolis was, much less that it had sank. The surviving crew thought things were about as bad as they could get, then the sharks began showing up.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1945. Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography.

We're taking a look at one of the most suspenseful crime dramas of the 1970s. Brandon is joined by lawyer and journalist, Matt Belenky, to discuss 1974's The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Brandon and Matt praise the deliberately paced direction by Joseph Sargent. The movie perfectly mixed suspense with quirky comedy thanks to the script by Peter Stone. We also praise the performances from the ensemble cast including Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller, Hector Elizondo and Earl Hindman.
