Earlier this year, DNA evidence implicated another man. Police confronted him- and then let him go. He soon died by suicide. What's going on? How did all of this happen? A terrifying sci-fi thrill ride, LUMINA follows four friends desperately searching for their abductee friend in a DUMB - DEEP UNDERGROUND MILITARY BASE. Whether they find their friend or not, what they find in the desert of the US to the sands of the Sahara, will change their lives forever. PATRICIA, a free-spirited Nubian hippie and amateur videographer, is staying at the house of her rich friend, ALEX, who decides to throw a party that reunites old friends and introduces them to his new girl, TATIANA. Despite the tension running through the celebration, the night goes off without a hitch. Everything changes with the sudden appearance of blinding lights from the sky. One second they're there, the next they're gone, and the only thing for sure is that Tatiana has disappeared. Months go by, during which Alex's mental state deteriorates. He joins an online community of conspiracy theorists and UFO watchers and has even reached out to GEORGE, an old acquaintance whose beliefs demand a matching tin foil hat. Alex is convinced he must find Tatiana and he believes she's in a DUMB. After an intensely vivid dream about Tatiana being held captive there. Gary Jones is an actor, comedian, writer, and Paul McGillion's drinking buddy. He is perhaps best known for his fan-favourite recurring role as Walter Harriman (AKA the Chevron Guy) in Stargate SG-1, for his countless appearances on CBC's hit radio show The Debaters, for his record nine times hosting the Leo Awards, and for his many years “Yes, and”-ing on improv stages across the continent. In 2022, Gary won a Leo Award for Best Actor in a Web Series for his work in the first season of Forgotten Masters, a delicious and absurd mockumentary series now streaming on YouTube. Gary plays DJ Ian Leighton, who has spent 45 years volunteering on co-op radio and interviewing many of the great players, but now devotes his 3:00-3:15 AM time slot to finding the greatest guitarists you've never heard of. These guitarists are portrayed by Ken Lawson and a revolving cast of some of the greatest hairpieces you'll ever see. School of Hollywood : Our Guest is Canadian Director & Screenwriter Gino McKoy to give you the first look behind his upcoming Sci-fi Horror Thriller LUMINA, the very first sci-fi movie filmed entirely in Morocco. Cast include Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts, Ken Lawson, and Eleanor Williams. We talk about Gino's background in the Music Business to shooting a film like Ridley Scott would.
It is a pleasure to welcome director, screenwriter, recording artist, and songwriter Gino McKoy to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Gino McKoy is about to release 2021's breakout science fiction film LUMINA. The film is the first-ever science fiction filmed entirely in Morocco. LUMINA stars Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts, Ken Lawson, and Eleanor Williams. The film is bold, cerebral, and distinctive from your average alien film. LUMINA follows a young college graduate whose girlfriend vanishes in a blinding flash of light. Determined to find her at any cost, he is drawn into a dangerous, otherworldly web of distortions as he seeks to discover the truth behind her disappearance.Gino McKoy wanted to make LUMINA in Africa, and between its deserts and mountain landscapes, Morocco established itself as the perfect filming location. The filming took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, the director and his team's production facilities landed in Marrakech last October, and they had 14 weeks of preparation and production. Nearly 250 international and Moroccan crew worked on the production as technical staff or extras. In addition to LUMINA, Gino is an independent recording artist that is verified on Spotify and produced and directed his own music videos. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Gino McKoy revealed how he and his crew overcame the countless obstacles that presented themselves during LUMINA's filming process. He also shared the stories behind several of his songs.
A wrongful arrest landed a homeless man in the state mental hospital for more than two and a half years. Joshua Spriestersbach, 50, was homeless and sleeping outside Safe Haven in Chinatown when he was suddenly arrested by police officers. They believed he was Thomas Castleberry, a convicted drug user, car thief and burglar. Despite telling officials multiple times that he wasn't Castleberry, Spriestersbach was instead jailed, then sent to the Hawaii State Hospital, where he was forced to take medication he didn't need. It's a story of mistakes, apparently by so many people at so many levels. In episode 9 of “The Other Side of Paradise,” HNN investigative reporter Lynn Kawano talks to Spriestersbach's sister Vedanta Griffith about her efforts to get answers. Plus, we talk to the co-director of the Hawaii Innocence Project, Ken Lawson, who explains why he believes the state tried to cover-up the mistake.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Gino McKoy is the Director & Screenwriter behind this year's upcoming breakout sci-fi film, LUMINA, the first-ever Sci-Fi movie filmed entirely in Morocco and stars Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts, Ken Lawson, and Eleanor Williams. According to the film's Academy Award-winning editor Thom Noble, “McKoy's eye for detail and recollection of shots and angles is exactly like that of Ridley Scott." Gino envisioned and created entirely new Sci-Fi worlds and was extremely agile and experimental in building his massive and jaw-dropping film sets. LUMINA is bold, cerebral, and distinctive from your standard alien movie fare. The story follows a young college graduate whose girlfriend vanishes in a blinding flash of light. Determined to find her at any cost, he is drawn into a dangerous, otherworldly web of distortions as he seeks to discover the truth behind her disappearance. Gino wanted to make LUMINA in Africa, and between its deserts and mountain landscapes, Morocco established itself as the perfect filming location. Filmed during the Covid pandemic, the director and his team's production facilities landed in Marrakech last October, and filming lasted 5 months. Nearly 250 Moroccans worked as technical staff or as extras. Falling under the spell of the city and the diverse landscapes of southern Morocco, the choice of Morocco was symbolic for Gino, because being from the Caribbean his country shares many similarities with Africa. Gino found in Africa the landscapes and places he dreamed of for his film including the sumptuous desert of Agafay, the Atlas Mountains, and the majestic backdrops of Ouarzazate. The dynamic and ambitious Gino McKoy is looking forward to bringing his first feature film to theatres worldwide later this year and is excited to speak with you to share for the first time the film and behind-the-scenes moments of what it took to get it made. The Department of Corrections kept it quiet for more than a week, but the fatalities have been confirmed by the medical examiner. — A shake-up at the state unemployment office. Rubio says it’s up to state and local governments to decide when people go back to work, questioning the wisdom of putting Donald Trump's name on all those $1,200 stimulus checks — The statewide lockdown is unwelcome news for victims of domestic violence, often leaving them trapped at home with their abuser. A new forecast is showing Florida has failed to flatten the coronavirus curve, which means the official projection is that the worst of COVID-19 will occur April 21 instead of early May. As of last night, there were 13,629 confirmed cases in Florida, with 254 fatalities. Also, on today’s Sunrise: — After the initial failure of Florida’s unemployment compensation system, Gov. Ron DeSantis says they’ve made significant improvements and should be able to process about 80,000 claims per week. While it’s a vast improvement, there’s already a backlog of 560,000 applications. — Department of Economic Opportunity head Ken Lawson is under fire for the failure of Florida’s unemployment system, and some lawmakers are calling for his resignation. Sen. Janet Cruz is one of them. — The Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court has extended the closure of the state court system through the end of May. — Attorney General Ashley Moody has some advice to help you avoid becoming a victim of the “Zoombombers.” — The Governor’s statewide “stay at home” order issued last week has an exemption for churches. Still, DeSantis is asking ministers, pastors and rabbis to maintain social distancing if they have in-person services for Passover or Easter. — Checking in with Florida Man, who is the second person jailed in Hawaii after ignoring a quarantine order.

Bringing with him his Marine background and homegrown Florida story, Ken Lawson has taken VisitFlorida in a bold, refreshing, and transparent direction. Appointed by Governor Scott to right a sinking ship, Lawson has been fundamental in revitalizing the state's tourism bureau, however he still has to fight against hurricanes, national and international competition. Ken is fluent in Floridian. Ken takes advantage of social media to innovate the way tourists are ‘sold' on Florida, he informed us, “We have a program called Share A Little Sunshine where people send their video clips of their experience. And when you see it on Facebook, on Instagram. It's like, “No. No one's selling me anything. They're sharing with me.” And then I'm going to put myself in the shoes of that person and it's just after the hurricane for a live camera showing that, “Hey, it's 1:10 here in Destin and the sky is clear. The air smells good. Feel the sand underneath your toes.” In fact, Facebook told us that after the hurricane our campaign on Facebook was basically the second most popular, successful campaign they had and this is after Visa.” When making decisions on how to market the state, Lawson turned to an unexpected source: the general tourism council of Canada. Lawson learned that greater than marketing any theme park, beach, or fishing hole, is marketing the diversity of experiences in Florida. Lawson describes being able to traverse the west coast of Florida and experience fine dining, nightlife, museums, concerts and more.

15! Meek Mill is free, but we're talking about Kanye West instead. Plus, Paul Ryan fired a Catholic priest for caring about poor people? We also have a Mea Culpa Mailbag and a REALLY spicy Bikileak! Our guest is the incomparable Ken Lawson, Co-Director of the Hawai‘i Innocence Project and Associate Faculty Specialist at the William S. Richardson Law School, where he teaches Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law, Professional Responsibility, Evidence. We discuss criminal justice and police reform, the evils of the private prison industry, and Hawaii's shortcomings on justice as a supposedly "progressive" state. Professor Lawson also takes some listener questions and joins us for shoutouts and restaurant recs. Have a listen!
Ken Lawson is always challenging me. First with "coaching" me in a losing battle against a child ping-pong champ. Second by trying to tach me improv. And in this episodes he attempts to get me to stand unassisted from a legs-crossed position. He's failed in all three endeavours. We also talk about his body shame issues, his hernia(s), and dancing topless for a living with the Comic Strippers. It's always fun when Ken is in studio.

Not only do the three of us talk pretty much Metallica's entire discography, we also make a plethora of bizarre allusions to other bands, including but not limited to: Gary Glitter, The Postal Service, Blink-182, Chris Isaac, and the Misfits! We also talk about that time Metallica should have broken up, vans with barbarian ladies air-brushed on the side, Bob Rock's silky-soft hair, creatures with wah-wah pedal voices, and how 'Lulu' is the clamato juice of records. Between the heaps of praise for 'Ride The Lightning' and major disses for 'St. Anger', we find the time to dish out a couple linguini high-fives and get real about Napster. All this, and Ken gets a charley horse! It's the Metallica show! (The producers of this podcast do not endorse the placement of metal into any bodily orifice.)
Ken Lawson returns to walk us through some improv games and exercises. If you've ever considered taking improv courses, have a listen. At the very least, you'll come away more confident knowing you're better than the host of this show.
The Comic Strippers flaunt their physiques all over this episode. You'll have to use your imagination, though, as Roman Danylo, Ken Lawson and Chris Casillan talk about shower scenes, Ping-Pong balls and lap dances while performing improv comedy. But they have depth, too, as they prove when they reflect on what Labour Day means to them.
Ken Lawson is an actor, improviser and heavy metal musician. Guess which one he gets grief about in this his first appearance on WSF? He also reveals what he is referred to by his nephew, gives us a lesson in improvising, and relates how Amy Poehler is his biggest fan. It was truly a fun show. That's not code, either.
