September 29. 2024What an inspiration Jim Futral has been to the people and churches of Mississippi, serving as a pastor for more than 30 years and as the Executive Director-Treasurer of the MS Southern Baptist Convention for 22 years. Although a native of Arkansas, Dr. Futral grew up in Mississippi and has said, "I would take you back, all the way back to Pheba (MS) Baptist Church where I was born again as a 9-year old boy... It's like it was yesterday I met Jesus, and I haven't gotten over that, and I don't intend to. Dr. Futral holds master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminay; an undergraduate degree from Blue Mountain College; and an associate degree fromt the former Clarke College in Newton, MS. Prior to taking the position at the MS Baptist Convention Board, he pastored Broadmoor Baptist Church beginning in 1985, previously serving six churches in Mississippi and two in Texas dating back to 1964. Dr. Futral and his wife, Shirley, have three grown children and a host of grandchildren.
