After the recent health scare involving Lebron James' son hit the headlines, we took a moment to highlight the need for calm when it comes to medical situations. We reflected on our own experiences with health issues, recognizing the gravity of letting professionals lead the way without jumping into conclusions borne out of anxiety. In an emotionally charged segment, we had the privilege of having a guest, who shared her story of overcoming a traumatic childhood to become a teenage mother. Her journey, fraught with hardship, yet marked by courage and resilience, is a source of inspiration. The episode reaches a poignant climax as she narrates her painful decision to give up her son to the Baptist Children's Home, only to reconnect with him 28 years later in a heartwarming reunion. Switching gears, we ventured into the realm of the unknown, dissecting the congressional UFO hearing, while probing into the necessity of a robust defense budget. The conversation brought us to the doorstep of artificial intelligence in podcasting, and the ripple effects of Joe Rogan's Spotify deal on the podcasting landscape. Vanessa Kehl tells us a very brave story about a difficult time in her youth that affected her for a very long time. Vanessa has been married to her husband, Andy, for 39 years. They have a daughter, Rachel. She is an accountant for a wheelchair company. At 17 years of age, Vanessa found out she was pregnant. Her circumstances caused her a great deal of fear, and she secretly chose toend that pregnancy. This decision would haunt her for the next 20 years. After high school, she joined a community theatre group that was performing "Godspell." Because of the story of that musical and the other Christians in the company, she came to know the real Jesus! This was life changing! She met her husband soon after that and they spent many years serving together in the Baptist Children's Home. Vanessa has experienced the freedom of God's forgiveness and she has learned how to finally forgive herself and find peace and redemption in Christ. She has also volunteered at the Hope Pregnancy Center and helped others going through circumstances similar to her own teenage experiences. Search for Significance by Robert S. Sunday Morning Sermon with Special Speaker Brother Kevin Carrothers from Baptist Children's Home and Family Services in Carmi, Illinois
In this episode of Undivided Birmingham, Dr. Chris Crain interviews Dr. Rod Marshall, President and CEO of Alabama Baptist Children's Home and children's Ministries. Dr. Marshal has degrees from Samford, UAB, and Regent and has served as for 28 years at ABCH. ABCH was established in 1891 as a traditional orphanage, but in the last 20-25 years has become Alabama's largest foster care provider. One out of ten children in foster care in the State of Alabama are provided for by ABCH. Dr. Marshall said that when asked what keeps him up at night, it is that he doesn't know what has happened to the other nine children out of ten that are not cared for by ABCH. The number one need of ABCH is financial. The State provides $16 per day for each child in foster care and ABCH is responsible for raising the other $40 a day they need to give a child quality care. As Christians, not everyone is called to be a foster parent, but everyone is called to do something for fatherless children. Rod calls upon churches to adopt foster families and come along beside them to help them as they answer the call to foster parenting. To learn more about becoming a foster parent or how you can help, please call the ABCH office at (205)982-1112.

Most of us want to be better at making prayer a daily part of our life, and this weekend we will be learning how to do just that as Daniel Henderson, author and President of Strategic Renewal, leads our “Prayer Life Conference.” Chrystelle Thames, our MHBC Prayer Ministry Leader and the Communication Director for the Baptist Children's Village, joins us to share her excitement about Daniel's upcoming teaching on prayer, and the 125th anniversary of the Baptist Children's Village.
Prayer is so important in the life a believer. Our church is blessed to have a wonderful prayer team, headed up by Chrystelle Thames, to encourage us in this discipline. She shares with us today an update on the Baptist Children's Village, prayer ministry needs, and a reminder that not only must we ourselves be disciplined in prayer, we must encourage the younger generation.
Darron Byrd serves at both the Baptist Children's Village (BCV) and Refugee Ministry International (RMI...or, as we usually call it, Vimal's ministry). In the middle of a busy week for both ministries, Darron took the time to sit down and update us about the many ways God is working through the BCV and RMI.
