The sermon explores the promise of a crown of life for those who steadfastly endure trials, emphasizing that God cannot be tempted with evil and that true temptations originate from our own desires, leading to sin and ultimately death. It highlights God as the unchanging source of all good and perfect gifts, bringing forth believers through his word and establishing them as the firstfruits of his new creation, ultimately offering hope and eternal life through Christ.

Raising children who love Jesus requires giving them the right gifts. Instead of fostering entitlement through unearned rewards, undeserved praise, or inappropriate freedoms, parents should focus on three biblical gifts from Deuteronomy 6. First, provide a Christ-centered community where children can form relationships with others seeking God. Second, establish high spiritual standards that challenge children to grow in faith beyond worldly achievements. Third, model and encourage a genuine faith worth sharing with others. By prioritizing these gifts over worldly success, parents can nurture children who truly love Jesus with all their heart, soul, and strength.

Thursday of the First Week of Lent

James has already told us that God cannot be tempted by evil nor does he tempt us.  God is never the giver of evil and always a giver of God. This is where James goes next in his field manual of authentic faith.  As we look at James 1:16-18 we will see that every good gift comes from an unchangingly good God whose goodness is most powerfully seen in the good news of the gospel.  These three verses have massive implications in how we understand who we are in Christ and how this understanding impacts the way we live out our life in Christ.
