This week we sat down and chatted with Amanda Hammock is a two-time suicide attempt survivor. Since 2018, she has been an advocate for suicide awareness and prevention. As an attempt survivor, she believes that the unique perspective and insight that attempt survivors have should be included at all tables, meetings, and conversations pertaining to suicide prevention.Working for the state legislature in Delaware County (PA) as a Chief of Staff gives Amanda an opportunity to make the attempt survivors' voices heard. In addition to ending suicide, she is focused on raising awareness around suicide and mental health and removing the stigmatization of those who have attempted and those who have been lost to suicide. She believes in data-driven education and techniques to prevent suicide.
This week we sit down with Greg Dicharry, also known as Greg Dee. Greg is recognized as a national leader in mental health recovery and won the Cliffords Beer Award in 2019 a top mental health award. Greg talks about his career in film getting diverted due to mental illness and drug addiction and how he worked through his recovery. Greg uses his experiences to help others and served as the National Youth Empowerment Director for Magellan putting on MYLIFE youth festivals all over the country. Greg went on to produce another youth festival called MY FEST focused on empowering youth with mental illness and drug addiction. Greg also released a documentary called "My Accession". The story centers around Emma Benoit a 16 year old survivor of suicide left paralyzed and her mission to turn the experience into hope for young people all around the world.
