Summer is over, Juicy Conversations is back! Today we're talking about anything and everything, from seasonal theories to routine changes and how they can affect us, to how I got ready for one of my favourite periods of the year, we're having a very chaotic, juicy catch-up. ------------------- Find Juicy Conversations with Julie Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
After a short break, we are back with yet another juicy catch-up. From UK elections to the rise of far-right ideologies and the impunity of those spreading them to the Celebrity BlockOut2024 movement, we're reviewing some of the news that stuck with me during the break, analysing them, and understanding what we can do to try and make things better because no matter how bad it gets, we keep pushing! All it took was one article about alleged conversations between President Macron and Aya Nakamura to start a national debate. It is rumoured that the singer might be performing at the 2024 Paris Olympics' opening ceremony, maybe even singing Edith Piaf and it's safe to say, a lot of people are unhappy. Now, music tastes are subjective and personal, but the discourse around this possible performance quickly turned subtly (or not) racist and misogynistic, and that's what we're diving into today. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
This week's episode works as a continuation and more of an opinion piece to an article I wrote questioning the power of boycotts in our day and age. Read the article: https://julie-ngalle04.medium.com/in-2024-can-boycotts-still-work-29639b3c8419 The short of it is: that we need to do more and stop making excuses if we want to channel the true potential of people power. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
Happy New Year my darlings
In recent years, the queer community, and more specifically the trans community have been subject to dangerous, unfounded, and hateful attacks from media, governments, and the general public all across the world. In a world where the idea of a 'culture war' is being thrown around senselessly, we got together to talk about the root of the many (non) issues that are surfacing notably in the UK and US and the need for all of us, to come together, recognise that was is happening is no more than a political distraction from the very real problems our societies face as well as continue to support and fight for every queer person's right to exist, live safely, and thrive.
Hey besties!! Very quick episode today just to say a quick hello and check in. Look forward to speaking to you all soon and sharing some of the content I have in store xxxx ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
It's been an intense few weeks in the digital world with Collen Ballinger getting canceled (yet again), Shein's latest and most controversial influencer trip and our usual internet favs (or not) acting absolutely unhinged, as always really! In the chaos of all this, on the pod, it got us thinking about if and how influencer activity and content can be regulated and how many passes can a person get before they lose their platform.
We are back today and we are M.A.D. We're discussing the sentencing to prison of a woman in the UK who got an abortion beyond the legal limit, the limitations of legislation and the need for it to evolve with society, and why allyship cannot have conditions. I talked about conditional allyship in an article a few months ago (link below) when looking at the bullying Sam Smith received, and it, in many ways applies here as it raises the question: should people's existence and decisions account for the feelings of others if they don't impact those others? Give it a listen and let me know your thoughts!
A year after the first episode, we're back today with a very special guest (and pal) talking about how we've been over the last year. We talked about getting professional and medical help, how people around you grow (or not) with you in dark times, and the guilt we tend to feel in those periods when we don't feel so good. The Little Mermaid live-action premiered, Lilo & Stitch's live-action casting was announced and it gave us a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves qnd other people why casting racially ambiguous-looking to play characters with very specific physical features and cultural background is not the same as having a Black woman play a mermaid, why fair and diverse representation is essential, and whitewashing, beyond being unfair, is dangerous. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
I am back today (on my own again), celebrating Juicy conversations' second birthday and looking back on the fun, challenges, and lessons of the past two years. Women's history month is coming to an end which is also a great time to remind ourselves of why raising awareness matters and what needs to change for gender equality. We're closing today's conversation with a debrief on the whole Hailey Beiber and Selena Gomez drama and why it all seems to have gotten out of hand, and how the whole thing stinks of sexism and misogyny. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423

In today's episode, we look back at the big headlines of the summer as we ask ourselves, is the media's negativity really helping raise awareness against climate change and how much it can contribute to feelings of hopelessness, panic and fear. On a lighter note, we also looked at the little things we can all do to be more sustainable in our every day as well as the comfort that comes with being more aware of what climate change actually even means. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
Today we are back with no guests for the first time as I open up about my experience dealing with anxiety and overall poor mental health. From triggers such as pressure, loneliness and intrusive thoughts but also just not feeling okay at times, I'm hoping this episode can contribute to starting more conversations around mental health and as always, lifting some taboo around the topic. In this episode, I am joined by very special guest Funmi Lijadu, freelance journalist and collage artist who recently went viral on Twitter after posting about her English Literature dissertation. We talked Love Island, gender performance, RnB and pick me music as well as Cara Delevingne as we looked at how pop culture can be a societal mirror and a tool to help discuss many social issues. Juicy Conversations with Julie is back with another episode where we discuss the state of the fashion industry and the rise of sustainable fashion as a movement but also fashion business model. Having looked at this we consider the great progress and conversations that rose within the sector as well as the limits within slow fashion still present today. ------------------- Find the podcast: Website: https://linktr.ee/juicy_conversations Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juicyconversations/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juicyconversations/ Twitter https://twitter.com/juicyconvos1 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@juicyconversations Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@juicyconversationswithjuli3423
In this episode, we review the events of the 1980s AIDS pandemic as we analyse how the mishandling, misinformation and lack of support led to the tragedy that the epidemic was, as well as fueled homophobia that continues to this day. As we identify how the media, governments and lack of sex education worsened the situation, we also look at how the queer community was disproportionately let down and impacted by the crisis, as it allowed for homophobic stigma and prejudice to flourish.
In honour of Black History Month, Julie and her guests discuss the importance, necessity but also meanings and many joys of celebrating this month. More intersectional education, support for the black community and awareness as to dismantling stereotypes and appropriating culture are some of just some of the issues discussed as the three guests walk us through their embracing, love and pride of black culture and their black identity.
TW: This podcast discusses sexual assault, rape and other forms of gender-based violence some listeners may find upsetting. In today's episode, we react to the brutal murders of Sabina Nessa and Sarah Everard as we discuss the growing threat that is gender-based violence in the UK and the world. As we try to identify where this issue stems from and try to find solutions, police reform, toxic masculinity and inclusive, equality promoting education.
In this episode, Julie and her guests bring up the importance and relevancy of holding pride. As they discuss, homophobia-based violence, inequality and lack of intersectionality and support for the LGBTQ+ community, the speakers unveil the need for queer history and promotion to be more central in politics, pop culture and everyday conversations.
In this episode, Julie and her guests discuss the many ways that we can and should destigmatise sex conversations in order for sex to be something that is safe, comfortable and always done with consent and care. Through discussions of how to bring pleasure into conversations, putting communication at the forefront and making sex education more queer, inclusive and less patriarchic, they explore the many solutions that could remove the toxicity of the relationship society has to sex.
In this episode, we address the many doubts and questions that arose when the COVID vaccines first hit the market. From its safety to its efficiency and the general science behind vaccines, Julie's 2 guests do their best to break it all down and offer some level of reassurance
This first episode is being posted in honour of International Women's Day. Julie and her five guests discuss the place and treatment of women of colour within our societies as they attempt to explain the importance of making feminism more intersectional.
In this first "pilot" episode, Julie and her four besties get together to reflect on the chaotic year that was 2020 as we discuss the pandemic, Black Lives Matter protest and privilege with hopeful mindsets for 2021.
