Ever felt powerless in front of the pantry, like you're watching someone else control the snacks? That creeping shame after a binge is rough. In this candid talk, Lyndsay Soprano sits down with Amber Abila—a woman who's been there, who's been through it, and who found herself on the other side.Amber opens up about her binge-eating journey, peeling back the layers to reveal how dieting, stress, and outdated habits rewired her brain into a food-fueled panic button. She takes us into the real work she did to reset her relationship with food—mindset shifts, self-talk work, mindful bites, and small victories that don't come in bite-sized packaging.Together, they break it down: the difference between real hunger and emotional hunger, the power of speaking kindly to yourself, and how rewriting your food story means seeing your body as an ally—not an adversary. This isn't about perfection or sealing off your feelings. It's about curiosity, reclaiming trust in your body, and learning that food doesn't have to be the boss of you.Let this episode be the reminder that recovery is possible—even if it feels messy, slow, and confusing. You're allowed to rewrite your story.Tune in if you've ever felt caught in the binge cycle. This week, we're talking boundaries—the invisible lines that protect our time, energy, and sanity (when we actually enforce them). Stef and Sarah unpack what boundaries really are (hint: not just saying “no”), how they show up in our bodies, our relationships, and our work—and why so many of us struggle to hold them. From family dynamics to friend drama, people-pleasing traps to food boundaries, they share real stories of what it takes to define and defend your limits without guilt. They also get into the psychology behind rigid vs. porous boundaries, how social conditioning makes it harder for some of us to draw the line, and why clear communication isn't just helpful—it's essential. If you've ever felt like setting a boundary makes you mean—or like you're constantly betraying yourself just to avoid conflict—this conversation is for you. Tune in for a candid, compassionate look at how to honor your needs and why boundaries aren't just protective… they're a form of kindness. 01:09 Defining Boundaries 02:20 Types of Boundaries 04:09 Personal Experiences with Boundaries 08:09 Boundaries in Relationships 10:32 Communicating Boundaries Effectively 11:41 Challenges in Setting Boundaries 13:11 Owning Your Boundaries 21:23 The Importance of Clear Communication 22:56 Setting Boundaries with Family 24:35 Navigating Boundaries in Friendships 26:41 Balancing Personal and Professional Boundaries 28:56 Understanding Boundaries in Therapy 34:57 Boundaries and Food Relationships 40:55 Concluding Thoughts on Boundaries Join our support community. Send us a textOh wow - we had Sarah Dosanjh on the pod!!! And how lovely is she? Sarah is a qualified and BACP-accredited psychotherapist specialising in binge eating — not just through training, but lived experience too. After over a decade of struggling with binge eating and bulimia, it was deep inner work that finally transformed her relationship with food. That journey now informs how she supports others.Since publishing I Can't Stop Eating (an Amazon bestseller) in 2020, she's raised awareness through BBC Radio One, Sky's Roundtable, BBC Breakfast, and delivering training for other professionals. Her YouTube videos exploring recovery and self understanding have been viewed over 3 million times. It was a super interesting conversation with someone who has lived experience with an eating disorder and now supports others with her incredible knowledge, insight and authenticity. We talked about Sarah's ED story, what helped her in her recovery, and how recognising impermanence of thoughts and being honest (even if that is super hard) can be incredibly powerful tools for recovery, as well as cats and whether to watch or listen to podcasts ;-) (with 'Find your Strong' you can do either or both!!)We also touched on GLP-1s and how they can be a massive challenge for anyone with disordered eating or an eating disorder - for a more detailed discussion we highly recommend you listen to Sarah and Stefanie's 'Life after Diets' episode on GLP-1sIf you want to find out more about Sarah and her work, here are some links:Her book 'I can't stop eating' (highly recommended for anyone struggling with overeating and bingeing)Her website https://thebingeeatingtherapist.com/Her podcasts (with co-host Stefanie Michele)Life after DietsFeelings and other inconveniences (brand new!!)Her instagram @the_binge_eating_therapist Please reach out if you would like some support with your relationship to food OR movement. What happens to your body during a 3-day fast? In this video, we'll cover the fasting health benefits of both intermittent fasting and extended fasting for 72 hours or longer. I'll also share some expert fasting tips for even more fasting benefits. 0:00 Introduction: Not eating for 3 days?1:02 Intermittent fasting benefits1:44 Extended fasting benefits3:12 Autophagy and fasting 4:22 72-hour fast benefits 4:49 Immune benefits of extended fasting5:36 Fasting tips 6:28 How to break a fastDid you know that insulin resistance is behind most chronic diseases, including many types of cancer? Frequent eating leads to insulin resistance, which blocks cells from getting fuel. Diets involving 5 to 6 small meals daily destroy the metabolism the most!An intermittent fasting plan involving 18 hours of fasting with a 6-hour eating window can provide tremendous health benefits, such as weight loss in the midsection, improved mood, and decreased inflammation. A 24 to 48-hour fast can significantly magnify the benefits of fasting. Extended fasting enables you to deplete the stored glycogen in your liver. You may also notice significant initial water weight loss. During a 1 to 2-day fast, most of your fuel will come from ketones. Your microbes will thrive, and growth hormone will increase, boosting muscle growth and burning fat.Ketones will feed the neurons in the brain, so you may notice improved cognitive function.Extended fasting allows you to get into a state of autophagy, where your body removes damaged cells and proteins and creates new ones. Autophagy also allows you to build new brain cells. A 3-day fast can produce even more benefits! Extended fasting for 72 hours can clean up intracellular pathogens, including Epstein-Barr and herpes viruses. A 3-day fast can stimulate your immune system, protecting you against cancer and autoimmune diseases. You can achieve results similar to stem cell therapy for free!If you're unsure of how to fast and want to make the process as comfortable and beneficial as possible, try these fasting tips for the most fasting benefits:•Coffee and tea are okay during a water fast•Make sure you have enough sea salt•Consume electrolytes like potassium and magnesiumRefeeding can have a negative impact after a 3-day fast. It's best to rebuild your caloric intake slowly. Bone broth is a great option to break your fast. In this live-streamed episode, Stef and Sarah explore the nuanced world of cravings — what drives them, how they differ from binge or overeating urges, and why they're often more complicated than they seem. They discuss the physiological and emotional undercurrents behind cravings, from hormonal shifts to nervous system dysregulation, weaving in personal experiences — including Stef's two most memorable pregnancy cravings. The conversation unpacks how cravings show up differently for restrictors versus permitters, how appetite and craving aren't always the same thing, and what it looks like to approach cravings from a more regulated, self-led mindset. Rather than reducing cravings to something to fix or fear, this episode invites a deeper, more compassionate understanding of them — one that honors both biology and psychology. In this episode, Stef and Sarah are talking about body image fluctuations. They kick things off with Stef admitting she's been in a bit of a funk lately, which has her feeling some body image blues. They chat about how our moods can totally mess with how we see our bodies—like when you're tired or anxious, everything feels heavier and more irritating. Stef talks about the importance of recognizing these mood shifts and working on regulating them before trying to 'fix' anything else. They also tackle the topic of 'floods'—those visceral reactions to body image triggers—and share some strategies for managing them when they hit. They also highlight the confusing mix of emotions when weight changes feel different depending on the context. Sarah shares an amusing anecdote about feeling self-conscious in a string bikini. Stef touches on her past struggle with 'reverse body dysmorphia,' where she clung to an outdated image of her younger self. They wrap up with some thoughts on how seasons influence our body image and the power of gradual exposure. Overall, this episode is a mix of raw honesty, empathy, and practical tips for anyone navigating the ever-changing landscape of body image. Join our support community. In my widely-read article about how I cured my IBS symptoms, I recommended against eating eggs in the early stages of gut healing. And I got plenty of pushback for that recommendation. I understand why. Eggs are hailed as nature's perfect superfood, have been a dietary staple for centuries, and their nutrient-packed yolks truly are nutritional powerhouses. But not all parts of the egg are created equal, and the whites might be secretly sabotaging your digestion. In this episode, I break down the real differences between egg yolks and whites, explaining why those trendy egg-white omelets are basically plates full of nutritional trash. I also explain why some of the proteins in egg whites can trigger gut issues — especially if you're prone to IBS or bloating — and share practical advice on choosing and preparing eggs to optimize digestion and nutrient absorption. Plus, I'll give you the inside scoop from our own experience raising chickens on our homestead. You'll learn why pasture-raised hens that are fed a true omnivore diet produce eggs with superior nutrient density, and how cooking your eggs the right way can make all the difference for your health. If you've ever struggled with digestive issues after enjoying eggs, this episode could crack open the solution you've been looking for. In this episode, Sarah and Stef explore the topic of why they decided to make this a rare two-part series. Stef sparked the idea due to a client's suggestion to dive deeper into the emotional aspects tied to realizing one can't diet anymore. They chat about their personal experiences and how differently they feel about the inability to diet. Stef shares that she often felt anger, stemming from the frustrating feeling of being controlled by an uncontrollable force. Sarah, on the other hand, felt sadness and a bit of unease about not being able to diet, describing a conflict between what she believed and what she felt. The discussion then shifts to the process and emotions tied to this realization. Stef talks about how her next phase of evolution might be becoming softer with herself, while Sarah contemplates if she should be more disciplined. They both recognize that regardless of the approach, the feeling of trying their best despite obstacles is very sobering. Both hosts touch on the grief associated with recognizing they can't diet anymore—an emotion that only surfaced fully during their recovery journeys. They discuss how memories of past attempts come rushing back, creating a whirlwind of feelings and self-reflection. Join our support community. Sarah and Stef delve into the complex emotions around dieting and the struggles of non-diet living. To kick things off, Sarah brings up the topic of feeling stuck between wanting to diet and feeling like you can't, even if you wanted to. This sets the stage for a thoughtful discussion about how dieting, and the decision to step away from it, evokes a range of emotions—from failure to empowerment. Stef offers personal anecdotes and client stories, revealing how the dieting mindset is often ingrained in us from a young age, making it a tough cycle to break. She highlights the difference between making an active decision to stop dieting and feeling like you simply can't keep up with it anymore. Throughout the episode, both Sarah and Stef share their own journeys and how they moved from a place of restrictive eating to embracing a non-diet lifestyle. Along the way, they touch on common pitfalls, like fantasizing about the benefits of dieting, only to be reminded of its psychological toll. The duo also explores how important it is to find a middle ground. This is not about completely giving up or indulging without thought but about finding a balanced, mindful approach to eating that nurtures both body and soul. One standout moment is when they discuss the concept of agency—and the sticky truth that empowerment can indeed come from weight control -- but it can also come from self-alliance. Did you know that poor sleep can stall fat loss—no matter how perfect your diet and workouts are? Why Sleep is the Master Switch for Metabolism: sleep is more important than diet and exercise when it comes to metabolic health. Think of your metabolism as a symphony—sleep is the conductor. Without it, everything falls apart. 4 Ways Poor Sleep Wrecks Your Fat-Burning Ability 1️⃣ Increases Blood Sugar & Insulin Resistance After just one week of poor sleep, blood sugar levels mimic prediabetes. Hunger hormones (ghrelin & leptin) go out of whack, leading to overeating. 2️⃣ Slows Down Metabolism Poor sleep lowers resting metabolic rate (RMR) and reduces fat-burning capacity. It also elevates cortisol, increasing fat storage, especially belly fat. 3️⃣ Toxic Buildup in the Brain The glymphatic system clears toxins during deep sleep. Without it? Buildup of beta-amyloid (linked to Alzheimer's). Poor sleep is associated with brain fog, mood disorders, and accelerated aging. 4️⃣ Circadian Rhythm Mismatch = Shortened Lifespan Night shift work & erratic sleep increase the risk of metabolic diseases and even cancer. The WHO classifies night shift work as a probable carcinogen.
