In this Professor's Response episode of Critical Magic Theory, Professor Julian Wamble returns to Hufflepuff House with one central question in mind: What happens when goodness depends on context? After a passionate post-episode discussion (and a collective reckoning over the Tonks-sized omission), we dive deeper into what Hufflepuff traits like loyalty, fairness, patience, and hard work really mean when filtered through fear, power, and tradition. This episode unpacks the underbelly of moral certainty—where loyalty can enable abuse, fairness can uphold the status quo, and kindness can cost you everything. With Tonks and Ernie Macmillan as case studies in contrast, we explore how two Hufflepuffs embody radically different versions of morality: one grounded in self-protection, the other in self-sacrifice. We also interrogate the idea of tradition as a form of resistance—or compliance—and how Hufflepuffs, often framed as the most moral house, can still reinforce unjust systems. This is not about villainizing Hufflepuffs. It's about recognizing that morality is not absolute—and that even the kindest hearts must be willing to question what (and whom) they serve.

With a background as a software engineer at Google and CTO of Metaculous, Dan brings deep expertise at the intersection of technology, prediction, and decision-making.Can AI really predict the future? Dan says—yes, but with caveats. He shares FutureSearch's research into the forecasting abilities of AI models like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, revealing that while they outperform random chance, they still fall short of skilled human forecasters. However, the gap is closing fast, and Dan expects AI systems to reach—and potentially exceed—human forecasting abilities within the next 10–15 years. In this conversation, we explore:- The state of AI forecasting: where models like GPT-4 shine—and where they fail- How AI compares to human forecasters today- Why forecasting natural events (like earthquakes) is fundamentally different from predicting human behavior- How uncertainty shapes our ability to forecast the future- Techniques for operationalizing forecasts so organizations actually use them- Conditional forecasting and competitor-focused predictions as game-changers for business strategy- The ethical and practical implications of “superhuman” forecasting in politics, business, and society- What the world could look like in 2035 when AI becomes an “Oracle-like” forecasterDan envisions a future where AI-powered forecasting transforms decision-making in politics, business, and beyond—giving us tools to anticipate disruption, prepare for uncertainty, and make smarter, data-driven choices. If you're interested in the future of AI, predictive analytics, or how technology could reshape our understanding of what's coming next, this episode is packed with insights.

What do you do when the damage can't be undone? In this raw and real episode, Scott and Deb talk about those painful moments when sin, mistakes, or even things outside our control cause permanent consequences—and how Jesus Christ can still bring wholeness. They explore the Savior's ability not just to forgive, but to repair—to heal emotions, soften hearts, and make relationships meaningful again, even when the original “problem” remains.Using powerful personal stories, vivid analogies, and scriptural anchors, they testify that Christ's Atonement isn't just for spiritual cleanliness—it's for emotional and relational healing too. You'll hear about parenting regrets, generational wounds, and how we sometimes cling to our own shame rather than trust the Savior's outstretched hands. This episode is a lifeline for anyone who feels stuck in what they can't fix. The Savior still can.

"...We frequently make our gifts conditional on the giving of others, not because we wish to force people to do their duty, but because we wish in this way to root the institution in the affections of as many people as possible who, as contributors, become personally concerned, and thereafter may be counted on to give to the institution their watchful interest and coöperation...."This week, I'm reading from Random Reminiscences of Men and Events by John D. Rockefeller, published in 1909.Reflection questions:Who are the donors in your donor database that would likely catch the vision of leveraging additional generosity through their matching or challenge gift? What is your plan for growing the affections and the engagement of the donors who respond to that matching gift challenge? Reflection on quote:Christmas in July is a marketing gimmick. However, preparing for our year-end campaign in July and August is not. One aspect of year-end campaign planning is matching or challenge gifts. While often seen as a recent phenomenon in fundraising, it actually has a long history. Rooting the nonprofits we serve in the affections of as many people as possible who, as contributors, become personally concerned in the cause is the primary goal of matching or challenging gifts. It's not about the amount or number of donations. It's an opportunity to gain more donors and engage current donors more deeply in the causes they care about. Because of this, when we ask for matching or challenge gifts, we can confidently ask the donor to help leverage additional generosity through their matching or challenge gift. We can confidently ask the donor to grow the affections of other potential and current donors. This work has entered the public domain. What do you think? Send me a text. Slender Man Stabbing Accomplice Approved for Conditional Release from Mental Hospital After More Than a Decade A Wisconsin woman who nearly killed a classmate at age 12 in an infamous attack inspired by the fictional character Slender Man will be conditionally released from a psychiatric hospital more than a decade later, a judge ruled Thursday. Morgan Geyser, now 22, has been confined to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute since she was found not criminally responsible for the 2014 stabbing of her friend, Payton Leutner, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. On Thursday, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Scott Wagner signed off on a new conditional release plan developed by the Department of Health Services. The plan comes after an earlier version was rejected in April over concerns raised by Leutner's family, including that Geyser's proposed group home was located just eight miles from Leutner's residence. The exact details and timing of Geyser's release have not been made public for safety and privacy reasons. Her attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. On May 31, 2014, Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier, both 12 at the time, lured Leutner into the woods at David's Park following a sleepover. There, Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times with a kitchen knife while Weier encouraged her. One of the stab wounds narrowly missed Leutner's heart. Severely injured, Leutner managed to crawl to a nearby bike path where a passerby found her and called for help. She miraculously survived the attack after emergency surgery and weeks of recovery. The motive, according to investigators, was chilling: Geyser and Weier believed that murdering Leutner would please Slender Man, a fictional internet character, and prove themselves worthy to become his “proxies.” They feared that if they didn't comply, Slender Man would harm their families. After the stabbing, the two girls began walking toward northern Wisconsin, claiming they were trying to find Slender Man's mansion, which they believed was in the Nicolet National Forest. They were arrested hours later on Interstate 94 in nearby Waukesha County. In 2017, Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime but was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness. In 2018, she was committed to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for up to 40 years. Weier also pleaded guilty in 2017 to attempted second-degree intentional homicide with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 25 years in a mental health facility. She was conditionally released in 2021, agreeing to live with her father and wear a GPS monitor. Prosecutors and state health officials initially opposed Geyser's release. In March 2024, they cited concerning behavior, including her reading a novel involving murder and organ trafficking and communicating with a man known to collect “murderabilia.” Geyser reportedly sent him a graphic sketch and a suggestive postcard. However, her defense attorney countered that her reading materials were approved by staff and that her communication with the man had ceased after she learned he was selling items she had sent. The presiding judge at the time, Judge Michael Bohren, concluded she wasn't concealing anything and allowed the release planning to proceed. Judge Wagner assumed the case after Bohren retired in April. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? As we close out our prophetic word about entering the Lord's rest, we cover the truth about our inheritance in Christ. In Hebrews 3:14, it tells us that we receive it if we stand firm until the end. Today, we give insights on how to ensure your full inheritance.
In this episode, we sit down with leading cannabis attorney Jeff Schultz, Partner at Foley Hoag, to unpack the real story on New York's adult-use market—what's working, what's broken, and where the industry goes from here.We cover:
In this special episode, Rob Hawkes joins Scott Ferguson and Will Beaman to discuss his new article “(Un)conditional Openness: Towards a Neochartalist Theory of Money and Trust,” which was recently published in Money on the Left: History, Theory, Practice. The conversation traces the development of Rob's long-standing interest in theories of trust from his doctoral research in literary studies towards an increasing fascination with the topic of money which eventually led him to MMT, neochartalism and the Money on the Left project. Rob recalls a jarring moment when, having become excited by the possibility of bringing MMT into his research on literature and trust, he realised that some neochartalists reject the idea that money is trust-based. Determined to think this relationship through in greater depth, Rob's article reaches the conclusion that neochartalism demands a re-theorisation of the concept of trust itself. In this wide-ranging conversation, Rob, Scott, and Will work through some of the key moves the article makes, including the problematisation of barter-like theories of “calculative trust,” its consideration of the connection between trust and vulnerability, and the way trusting blurs the distinction between conditionality and unconditionality (as alluded to in the article's title). Finally, the discussion addresses links between trust, the university (as an institution), and the uni currency proposal, and situates Rob's work within the heterodox and heterogeneous interdisciplinary academic, para-academic, and extra-academic field that is contemporary neochartalism.Visit our Patreon page here: https://www.patreon.com/MoLsuperstructureMusic by Nahneen Kula: www.nahneenkula.com

In a world that often spins faster than we can catch up, trusting anyone—let alone someone you can't physically see—can feel like a leap. But for millions, trusting God isn't blind faith; it's a relationship grounded in experience, wisdom, and love. Whether you're walking through a season of doubt or simply seeking deeper peace, here are five powerful reasons to lean into trust: 1. God's Faithfulness Stands the Test of Time "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations..." — Deuteronomy 7:9 History, Scripture, and personal testimonies echo a consistent truth: God shows up. Not always how we expect—but always with purpose. 2. His Love Doesn't Flinch "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." — Romans 5:8 There is comfort in being known completely and still unconditionally loved. God doesn't base His love on performance—it's already been fully given. 3. There's Purpose in the Pain "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him..." — Romans 8:28 Pain doesn't always make sense, but it's never wasted. Trusting God invites us to believe that even brokenness can be used to build something beautiful. 4. He Leads Even When the Map's Blurry "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding..." — Proverbs 3:5-6 When decisions loom and uncertainty crowds in, God offers a peace-filled path—not always the easiest, but often the most transforming. 5. Peace Isn't Conditional "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds..." — Philippians 4:7 God doesn't promise a storm-free life, but He does promise to be our anchor. His peace isn't based on perfect circumstances—it's rooted in His presence. kenn.blanchard@gmail.com
Episode Summary:In this illuminating conversation, The Light Inside welcomes Albert Bramante—performance coach, therapist-in-training, and creative strategist—to explore the unconscious drive behind chronic overachievement and how it often masks deeper emotional needs. Together, we uncover how the compulsion to “perform your way into belonging”becomes a form of adaptive self-abandonment—disrupting somatic coherence, emotional regulation, and authentic identity development. With a trauma-informed lens and practical, evidence-backed insights, Albert and Jeffrey examine how internalized shame, early maladaptive schemas, and survival-based belief systems shape high-functioning behavior in creatives, professionals, and helping practitioners. This episode offers valuable tools and reflections for therapists, coaches, and somatic practitioners guiding clients through patterns of burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and identity fragmentation.Key Takeaways:Understanding adaptive self-abandonment: How overachieving becomes a survival strategy rooted in unresolved shame and conditional worth.Somatic imprinting & nervous system dysregulation: How patterns of chronic performance impact the salience network, breath patterns, vagal tone, and emotional suppression.IFS-informed perspectives: Recognizing perfectionism, the inner critic, and the high-performer as protective parts with valid emotional functions.Cultural & systemic conditioning: How internalized capitalism, identity-based trauma, and groupthink perpetuate burnout and disconnect.Healing through coherence: Tools and practices to restore nervous system safety, emotional literacy, and an embodied sense of belonging.About Our Guest – Albert Bramante:Albert Bramante is a sought-after performance and mindset coach working at the intersection of creative expression, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed embodiment. With a background in both media and somatics, Albert brings a unique perspective to high-functioning burnout and the masks we wear in pursuit of worth. Jamie Levy, President and CEO of Generation Mining Limited (TSX:GENM, OTCQB: GENMF), joins me for an update on their fully-permitted and shovel-ready Marathon Copper-Palladium Project in Northwestern Ontario. We talk resources, key metrics from the Feasibility Study, options for the upcoming mine financing, and the potential for funding support from the province of Ontario. We start off talking about he robust resources at Marathon with 1.1 billion lbs of copper, ~4 million ounces of palladium, and 1.3 million ounces of platinum, with some additional co-credits from gold and silver. Jamie highlights the importance of developing domestic sources of these strategic metals in Canada, and the interest from the provincial and federal governments on expediting the construction of new mines and sources of supply in country. The Feasibility Study estimated a Net Present Value (using a 6% discount rate) of C$1.07 billion, an Internal Rate of Return of 28%, and a 1.9-year payback based on the 3-yr trailing average metal prices at the effective date of the Technical Report. Over the anticipated 13-year mine life, the Marathon Project is expected to produce 2,161,000 ounces of palladium, 532 million lbs of copper, 488,000 ounces of platinum, 160,000 ounces of gold and 3,051,000 ounces of silver in payable metals. We discuss the capital stack coming together starting off with the Wheaton Precious Metals stream, which consisted of an early deposit of $40 million (received) and then an upcoming $200M construction payment for 100% gold and 22% platinum production. Endeavour Financing has also helped set up a mandate letter for banking syndicate of Export Development Canada, ING Capital LLC and Societe Generale to arrange a Senior Secured Project Finance Facility of up to $540M. Conditional on final diligence and debt capacity. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions for $200M of deeply subordinated debt, and the potential for government grants. Wrapping up we discussed the experience of the team in developing and building prior mines, and why they'd prefer to build Marathon internally, but are still open to the options of JV partners or a project scale if it was the best value creation for shareholders. If you have any questions for Jamie regarding Generation Mining, then please email those in to me at Shad@kereport.com. Click here to follow the latest news from Generation Mining

This week, In the Key of Q welcomes Eric Terino, a folk musician and songwriter from New England. Eric's music blends elements of folk, classical, and alternative sounds to create something uniquely his own. In this candid conversation, Eric discusses his journey as a queer artist who doesn't fit the stereotypical image of LGBTQ+ musicians, his experiences with agoraphobia and mental health challenges, and his path to finding self-worth.Eric's latest album, "Innovation of Grave Perversity," was recorded remotely during lockdown and explores themes of isolation, connection, and self-acceptance. Throughout the interview, he shares profound insights about living a life that hasn't followed expected paths and learning to extend the same kindness to ourselves that we offer others.Timestamps[00:00:28] - Introduction[00:02:12] - Eric introduces himself and his musical style[00:03:21] - Discussion of stereotypical queer musician image[00:04:23] - Eric explains folk music as a storytelling medium[00:06:03] - Dan and Eric discuss queer representation in music[00:07:42] - Conversation about "gay icons" who remained closeted[00:09:21] - Eric shares his coming out story[00:13:12] - Discussion of family acceptance[00:15:49] - Eric opens up about his mental health and agoraphobia[00:19:15] - What it feels like to experience anxiety[00:20:40] - Conditional acceptance of queer people[00:21:00] - Fear of public affection with same-sex partners[00:23:17] - The parallels between victim-blaming women and gay men[00:24:53] - Reflections on queer relationships and success[00:26:21] - Discussion of Eric's new album created during lockdown[00:30:08] - Eric's two minutes to speak on any topic (self-worth)[00:35:30] - The fifteen-year-old self segment[00:36:43] - Gateway song: "Felt" from latest albumAbout Eric TerinoEric Terino is a folk musician and songwriter from New England whose work blends elements of folk, classical, and alternative music. His third album, "Innovation of Grave Perversity," was recorded remotely during lockdown in 2020-2021.Eric describes his approach to music as "earthiness, textures... naturalism rather than gloss," setting him apart from more mainstream queer artists. His work is explicitly queer without being ambiguous, as he believes in the importance of authentic representation in music.Living with agoraphobia, Eric has adapted his creative process to work within his limitations, collaborating remotely with other musicians and finding connection through his art despite physical isolation.Key Quotes"I never wanted anything to be veiled in ambiguity, purposefully, for the sake of making it palatable to somebody who is uncomfortable with an LGBTQ perspective.""If you asked me to drive to the corner shop a mile down the road to me, that would feel like you're asking me to jump out of an airplane... the level of anxiety is so high it feels like you're doing something wild.""Just because you don't have the life that you envisioned for yourself and the life that you expected... it doesn't mean that it's the wrong life for you. It doesn't mean that it is in any way invalid, you know, not valuable.""Worthy. What a thing to claim. And it really is. It's a very powerful idea to say to yourself, I am worthy. In this raw, revealing, and richly layered conversation, Andrew welcomes writer, speaker, and feminine guide Ginger Kern to the Dom Sub Devotion podcast. What unfolds is not just a dialogue—but a masterclass in embodied polarity, truth, desire, and what it really takes to create sacred union. Together, they dive into: • The difference between performative desire and embodied eros • Why truth—not integrity—is the highest value in a power exchange relationship • How men and women both must submit to something greater to be truly free • The journey of a woman learning to trust her voice, her body, and her desires • What it feels like to be in the presence of a man who is aligned with truth • The trap of the “Hungry Mind” and why embodiment—not more knowledge—is the portal to change • Conditional vs. unconditional love in the context of devotion, polarity, and human relationship • The erotic, energetic, and existential responsibility of being fully in your human experience Ginger brings nuance, reverence, and fierce clarity to what it means to be a vessel for life, love, and truth. How can a binding international treaty be agreed and put into practice, when many parties are strongly tempted to break the rules of the agreement, for commercial or military advantage, and when cheating may be hard to detect? That's the dilemma we'll examine in this episode, concerning possible treaties to govern the development and deployment of advanced AI.Our guest is Otto Barten, Director of the Existential Risk Observatory, which is based in the Netherlands but operates internationally. In November last year, Time magazine published an article by Otto, advocating what his organisation calls a Conditional AI Safety Treaty. In March this year, these ideas were expanded into a 34-page preprint which we'll be discussing today, “International Agreements on AI Safety: Review and Recommendations for a Conditional AI Safety Treaty”.Before co-founding the Existential Risk Observatory in 2021, Otto had roles as a sustainable energy engineer, data scientist, and entrepreneur.
