In this episode of The Free Thought Project Podcast, Jason and Matt sit down with the talented and inspiring Grant "Prezence" Ellman, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist from Sedona, Arizona. Grant's music and activism embody a rare blend of soulful artistry and deep philosophical reflection. Known for his dedication to truth, freedom, and love, Grant's music challenges the status quo and spreads empowering messages that resonate with anyone seeking a better, freer world. Grant's 2021 track dismantling the COVID and government scams was censored from Spotify within just one week of release, further highlighting the uphill battle faced by artists who dare to challenge mainstream narratives. His self-produced music has graced events like Anarchapulco and The Greater Reset, and he's shared stages with icons like Steel Pulse, Tribal Seeds, and Mike Love. With influences ranging from modern reggae to dub pioneers, Grant has crafted a sound that's uniquely his own—blending deep messages with unforgettable melodies. In this conversation, we explore the troubling symbolism and toxic ideas found in much of mainstream music today—things like promoting materialism, treating women poorly, and glorifying violence. Grant shares his insights on why artists like Sam Smith lean into satanic and dark imagery and contrasts it with his own mission to inspire peace and love through his art. We also dive deep into the story of Ross Ulbricht, as Grant has been an outspoken advocate for Ross's freedom. He explains why this issue is so close to his heart and how artists can use their platform to amplify messages of justice and liberty. To top it off, Grant treats us to an incredible live performance of his song, “Taxation is Theft.” Trust us, you don't want to miss this—his lyrics and energy are as powerful as his philosophy. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who values music as a vehicle for truth and transformation. Tune in and let Grant's words and music inspire you to see the world—and its possibilities—in a whole new light. Nigel Mansell's 1991 F1 championship charge effectively ended at the Portuguese Grand Prix that year, when a wheel departed from his Williams as he pulled away from his pitstop.  Host Glenn Freeman is joined by Edd Straw and Sam Smith to look back in detail at what went wrong in the pits for Williams at Estoril, on a weekend where Mansell's team-mate Riccardo Patrese took an 'easy' win, and Ayrton Senna banked valuable championship points while also taking a swipe at Mansell's aggressive driving at the start of the race.  We also look back on Jordan sacrificing its competitive aims for 1992 to make sure it stayed afloat, serious trouble for the Leyton House team, Ford's complaints about F1's engine war, how badly a Minardi-Porsche partnership would have gone, and how Max Mosley caught Jean-Marie Balestre out ahead of their battle for the presidency of FISA. Nissan boss Tommaso Volpe joins host Andrew van de Burgt and chief reporter Sam Smith to analyse Oliver Rowland's superb smash ‘n' grab victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City E-Prix. Questions such as would Rowland have caught the Porsches without the intervention of the first safety car and will Nissan mount a serious challenge to Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa for the title are also dissected with Volpe. A poor race for Jaguar TCS Racing is mulled over, as are the prospects for the DS Penske team and Envision Racing who had contrasting fortunes in Mexico City.  New venues such for 2026 and beyond such as Toronto are expanded upon, and could Cape Town and Santiago really return to the calendar? All this and the latest news and views from a busy paddock are tucked in to as Formula E enters 2025 with its usual vibrant twists. Want extra podcast content? Join The Race Members' Club on Patreon! How is speed on a bike different from speed in a car? Is chasing the limit different if you're more likely to get hurt? And just why did your crazy old Uncle Eddie yardsale that ratty Ducati of his across a field, anyway? Complex questions. Except Uncle Eddie. Dude drives a Chevelle and loves Foreigner a little too much, you know? Probably got hot blooded one night, wanted to know what love was. Maybe it felt like the first time? Tires were cold as ice, though, played too many head games! Blue morning! But I digress. Nick Ienatsch is the creator of the Yamaha Champions Riding School, one of the country's best two-wheel performance training programs. He's also a writer, a racer, and a hell of a good teacher. Before his current gig, Nick spent more than a decade as the lead instructor at the celebrated Freddie Spencer Riding School.  We ask Nick about motorcycles in this one. Ross, Sam, and Jeff are all bike people, but that's not a prereq here. At the core, this is an episode for anyone who likes wheels and owns a brain.  And maybe also Uncle Eddie. RELATED TRIVIA: This episode marks the end of INTC's first year on air! Fifty-two shows, one every week—weird, right? Honestly, we're just geeked to still be here. Thank you for listening! Fifteen years ago, a guy from Maryland took a camcorder and a bone-stock Ford Mustang GT to Japan and filmed a series of YouTube videos on drifting and local car culture. Back home in the States, a handful of people—including INTC producer Mike Perlman, then 15 years old—watched those videos and asked, What the hell is going on here? By that point, Vaughn Gittin, Jr. was already an accomplished professional drifter, an off-road racer, and a self-proclaimed “professional fun-haver.” Fast forward a decade and a half, and Gittin's hands-on approach has helped drifting be taken seriously in America—and he's done so much more. For INTC's 50th episode, Gittin joins us to talk about the nuance and difficulty of drifting, building a career in motorsport, and how our very own Ross Bentley changed his life! It's been quite a journey, but we have arrived at the penultimate episode of this insane series, and we have mixed feelings. So many storylines abandoned, or wrapped up too quickly, or too zany…Stanford is a MONK??? According to the writers, WE are the problem though because apparantly every storyline in this show has happened to somebody in the room, so I guess we have to eat crow. Otherwise MPK might have to admit fault for his own show, and a man would never do such a thing! Carrie wins a free dinner because she doesn't have enough already, so she invites everyone she's ever met regardless of how awkward it might be for her friends of over 30 years. Sam Smith makes an appearance first whatever reason, Miranda finds a new love interest because, as we know, whenever any two lesbians meet, they are instantly in love, Nya tiptoes her way to being written off the series completely, LTW unleashes on her husband for “whoops! Forgot to get that vasectomy”, and Steve decides to start a new life in clams. Also, all the parenting in this show is insane. The 2024-25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship began with a bang in Sao Paulo with Mitch Evans taking an extraordinary last to first win in his new Jaguar Gen3Evo machine. That was only part of a dramatic landscape to a race that also included two red flags, the last of which was for Pascal Wehrlein's inverted Porsche. The reigning champion emerged unscathed from the wreck after tangling with fellow assumed title rival Nick Cassidy's already damaged Jaguar. Other stellar performances analysed include Taylor Barnard's remarkable third place and Oliver Rowland's strong weekend which was devalued and unrewarded due to team errors and poor reliability. We hear from Rowland and Barnard, as well as Jaguar TCS Racing boss James Barclay who describes some of the trickier moments from another complex and scintillating race. Host Andrew van de Burgt and reporter Sam Smith dive in to the fall-out from a spectacular opener that saw the true return of potent attack mode and an upswing in lap time largely thanks to All-Wheel-Drive and a new tyre compound. Have you ever been in the zone, or in flow, behind the wheel? Want to get back there again and again? This podcast is all about what's driving the car, and in this episode, we dig deep into the minds of high-performing drivers. We talk with Dr. Sue Jackson, a psychologist who has specialized in sport and exercise psychology. She co-wrote the book "Flow in Sports" with the “father" of flow research, Mihaly "Mike" Csikszentmihalyi. In her latest book, "Experiencing Flow," Sue looks into how we can all spend more time experiencing peak performance, whether that means on the race track or at any other time in life. Sue also talks about her recent interest in racing, and specifically about Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Madonna is the world's biggest female pop star. She's influenced everyone from Beyoncé to Britney Spears; is the most successful solo artist in Hot 100 chart history; and is the best-selling female recording artist of all time. Her career – which has spanned over forty years – has seen her continually reinventing herself and her sound over fourteen studio albums, from her early years in the New York City underground dance scene, to collaborating with artists like Maluma, Sam Smith, and the Weeknd. Throughout all this, though, she has also managed to remain an enigma. Much has been said about Madonna, but through her work, a holy trinity of themes has emerged. And through these themes – gender exploration, multiculturalism, and spirituality – we can unpack one of the most iconic catalogs in pop music. This week on Switched On Pop, we're Listening 2 Madonna, and releasing three special episodes focused on the Material Girl, going Deeper and Deeper to understand the Queen of Pop. On this episode, we take a look at how Madonna conveys gender in her work, from "Like A Virgin" to "What It Feels Like For A Girl." What if the key to uncovering the truth lies in the tiny details of a gunshot wound? This episode of The Murder Book dives headfirst into the intense courtroom proceedings of the Stanley Cohen murder trial, where Dr. Whitley's forensic testimony about the nature of the gunshot wounds and the shifting timeline of Cohen's death sends ripples through the courtroom. With his expert presentation of forensic evidence, the medical examiner transforms the trial into a gripping examination of science under scrutiny. As tensions rise, Defense Attorney Alan Ross fiercely interrogates Dr. Whitley, challenging the reliability of his conclusions based on lividity patterns. The defense narrative thickens with accounts from neighborhood witnesses who recall seeing a mysterious figure on the day of the murder, raising questions about the possibility of a third-party suspect. Alongside the forensic battle, courtroom tensions flare with disputes over seating and familial dynamics, creating a charged atmosphere where every gesture and word is weighted with significance.Amidst these legal skirmishes, emotional testimonies bring the personal stakes of the case to light. Witnesses like Sam Smith unravel under pressure, revealing timelines that clash with their alibi narratives, while the introduction of evidence suggesting Joyce Cohen's innocence pushes the boundaries of courtroom conventions. As the drama unfolds, the episode captures the relentless pursuit of justice amidst a backdrop of strategic legal maneuvers and emotional revelations, leaving listeners on the edge as the trial edges towards its climactic conclusion.Send us a text Support the show

Once, humans set foot on the moon. Some steely eyed engineer types did some math and took some gambles, and then some steely eyed pilot types sat on a big firework and flew off. Huge achievement, neat space candle. And that plan—the *strategy*—made it possible. Related: A host of this show is a pro race engineer. Jeff Braun has won the 12 Hours of Sebring eight times and the 24 Hours of Daytona twice. His résumé includes a whopping ten IMSA / Grand-Am championships. Race strategy makes Jeff's job go 'round. So we had him explain it! This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. We call this format “Instant Expert.” RELATED TRIVIA: Once, Sam found himself at the end of a grueling enduro. It was the last corner of the last lap; the win was make-or-break. In the heat of battle, he made a strategic choice—he took out two drivers at once. And hey, those little girls were really unhappy about that, but they were also Sam's nine- and eleven-year-old daughters, and that's how the MarioKart cookie crumbles, rugrats! Boom goes the red-shell dynamite! Dad-strat champion forever!  This episode was produced by Mike Perlman. ** Who We Are + Spicy Merch: www.ItsNotTheCar.com ** Support It's Not the Car: Contribute on Patreon www.patreon.com/notthecar ** Topic suggestions, feedback, questions? On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a special episode recorded live just last weekend in New York featuring two artists that appear on an amazingly ambitious new conceptual compilation album called TRANSA, Asher White and MIZU. The album comes from our friends at the Red Hot organization, was conceptualized largely by Dust Reid and Massima Bell, and features more than 100 artists honoring trans and non-binary artists. There are huge names like Sade, Sam Smith, Andre 3000, indie heroes like Julien Baker and Laura Jane Grace, and incredible up-and-comers like today's two guests, who worked on separate tracks. The whole thing comes out November 22, and you can pre-order it now. I won't say much more because former Talkhouse producer Mark Yoshizumi was on hand to introduce Asher and MIZU at the event. In this episo… ah, screw it. Cut to the chase: Do you know what a Mazda R26B rotary sounds like? Four rotors of fury! The littlest beer keg that could! The 700-horse shrieker from the first Japanese car to win Le Mans! BEEOWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!  Except… louder. Nastier. You hear that noise even once, it makes a bee-line for the whoopy monkey core of the human brain and lives there forever. So we got ourselves here yep a story about that. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. This episode is our monthly deep dive into an epic moment from racing history. In this case, the time an underfunded Japanese carmaker and a strange little engine design went to France and slayed 200-mph giants. Related Trivia: Sam once track-tested a real live Mazda 787. Ross used to own Mazda RX-7. And in 2014 and 2015, Jeff was competition director for the factory-backed Mazda SpeedSource diesel prototypes in IMSA. Corner by corner, inch by inch, one of the greatest tracks in the world. We've got thousands of laps there. Walk the track with us! What makes Laguna Seca so great? Is the answer . . . California? The mountains? Memories of Mario, getting loose in Turn 9, that cotton-candy morning fog, or how the rear axle just snap-crackle-pops into the Corkscrew on trailed brake?  Yes! And so much else, right? This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. We call this ep's format “Walking the Track.” In this installment, Sam and Ross destitch their love for a deeply American, deeply Californian, and deeply wonderful track. You will learn where the apexes are, if you don't already know. But that's the least interesting part. ***YOUR RELATED TRIVIA STARTS NOW*** Ross has strolled Laguna's pavement countless times while teaching people to go fast there. Sam once got yelled at by track security for daring to walk a lap at sunset, on a club-race weekend, after everyone had gone home. (Not allowed, they said. Which is ridiculous, but also, in that case, why were the gates open? Boo hiss.)
