EP 26: Overcoming Stigma in the Treatment of Substance Abuse Disorder Stigma is often based on myth, superstition, or prejudice against another group. Guest: Dr. Thomas Franko, associate professor of pharmacy practice at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and coordinator of the Pain, Palliative Care and Addiction APhA Special Interest Group. The Challenges and Opportunities of Health System Pharmacists When the general public thinks of a pharmacist, they may think of the pharmacist behind a counter at a community pharmacy. But as we know, pharmacists work in all kinds of practice settings–and that includes thousands of pharmacists in hospitals and other health-system environments. Their challenges are both similar to and different from community pharmacists. Last year, APhA created a special council to discuss health-system pharmacy issues, and to advise the association on how to serve pharmacists in those settings. Our guests are the council's co-chairs: Steve Rough, from the nationwide pharmacy consulting firm Visante, and Noelle Chapman, from Advocate Aurora Health in Chicago.
