This week, we talk with George and Kate Wolfe, a local, NEPA couple who own the family-operated Laundry Lane with locations in Edwardsville and Wilkes-Barre. They discuss transforming laundromats from the old "dirty and unsafe" stigma into clean, safe, modern spaces with cameras, customer support, card/app payment systems, and large-capacity machines, plus plans for pickup-and-delivery service. George and Kate share how hands-on ownership, learning the industry, and investing in upgrades (like lighting and payment tech) drive customer trust, along with challenges such as equipment and parts costs, finding good employees, and relying on distributors. They also describe buying their first laundromat with minimal out-of-pocket cash, purchasing the buildings, and building community-focused service. To keep up with Laundry Lane, give them a follow on Facebook. If you or someone you know wants to be featured on our podcast, visit our website!

The National Weather Service issued an elevated risk of wildfire spread Thursday. Forecasters say the combination of marginally dry and breezy conditions is creating an elevated risk of wildfire spread across most of central Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania's wildfire season runs from March through May. Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity recently donated nearly $38,000 in unclaimed property to five nonprofit agencies. One of the nonprofits receiving those donations is the Caring Cupboard based in Palmyra, Lebanon County. Officials with an animal rehab center in northeastern Pennsylvania are looking to re-house hundreds of pigeons that were rescued from a Wilkes-Barre home earlier this week. Pennsylvania State Police investigated more than 530 crashes over the Easter holiday weekend. Six of those crashes involved fatalities. Former Gettysburg mayor Chad-Alan Carr is facing additional charges after three more people came forward with allegations including sexual assault. Additionally, a warrant was issued for his arrest, after it was determined he had left Gettysburg and was in Texas. Konnor Griffin has signed a nine-year, $140 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The deal with the 19-year-old shortstop is the largest in club history. And now it’s time for a new weekly segment called The Bright Spot. Every Friday, I’ll share a positive news story that may have gotten lost amid this week's news cycle. Today’s bright spot is this: Nearly 50 years later, Cincinnati may get a real radio station named WKRP. As heard on WITF’s Morning Edition earlier this week, the call letters WKRP were recently put up for auction. Did you know that if every one of WITF’s sustaining circle members gives as little as $12 more a month, we'd close the gap caused by federal funding cuts? In this episode of the Wilkes-Barre Connect podcast, we hear from Larry Newman, the founding Executive Director of the Diamond City Partnership (DCP), Wilkes-Barre's nonprofit downtown management organization, where he plans and leads Downtown Wilkes-Barre's revitalization. A trained architect, Larry has always been fascinated by the “built environment”, specifically cities and towns. Eventually he realized what he was really drawn to improving the public realm, essentially the spaces everyone shares. No matter who we or where we are, the quality of our environment effects us all. We discuss the work of the DCP and it's role in enhancing downtown Wilkes-Barre's environment. We also discuss some of the organized events meant to bring folks into the downtown footprint, including the Holiday Market, Sunsets on South Main, and other community engagement. We also discuss the economic impact Downtown has on Wilkes-Barre as a whole and how growing and maintaining a vibrant downtown district helps not only the residents and tenants of Downtown Wilkes-Barre, but the city overall. Larry and his team may not be who you turn to to start your business, but when it comes to resources to grow your business and connect you with partners who can help, the DCP should be an early call! You can find the Diamond City Partnership online at - https://downtownwilkesbarre.org/, or on social media at @downtownwilkesbarre.
In last week's podcast conversation, we touched upon the idea of blooming where you're planted. That's not to say you should accept everything as is in life. If it's not right for you, do what you can to change it...whether that be a job, place of residence, health status, etc. But, we also tend to look outwardly to want change to happen so some of us might complain about external things and act like they are responsible for our happiness or wellness, when in fact, everything begins with us.This week my guest is Jennifer Aleke, co-owner of J&M's Delights cookies and facilitator of "I Love Myself" workshops. As you'll hear in our conversation, Jen didn't start a cookie business because she's a passionate baker but she is passionate about bridging gaps between people and helping them make life enjoyable. J & M's (the M is for Jen's business partner Mike) is a cookie business inspired by love, family, and the power of connection. Their journey began with a shared mission to create treats that everyone could enjoy. Jen and Mike both live with a gluten allergy, so together they understand how hard it can be to find treats that are both safe and satisfying. Shop online for these delicious cookies or visit many coffee shops throughout Scranton. You can also taste these delicious treats on April 18 at the Marketplace at Steamtown and the Lace Village's spring vendor events. In addition to creating connection through cookies, Jen also leads workshops to help people reconnect with themselves through reflection, clarity, and intention for personal growth. One is planned at Nancy K. Holmes Library in Scranton on March 21 and watch for an April event at The Gather Community Space in Wilkes-Barre. Handling of the economy has long been considered a strong suit for the Republican Party. A new poll suggests the economy might now be one of the party’s weaknesses heading into this year’s midterms. In Northeastern Pa., the case of a Luzerne County teen whose body was found behind a Wilkes-Barre garage last month is raising questions about steps taken to inform the public she was missing. Penn State Police are piloting the use of license-plate readers that collect data for law enforcement. Senator John Fetterman is the only Democrat who voted against a Senate resolution Wednesday to rein in President Donald Trump's actions in the war with Israel, against Iran. Representative Scott Perry is among five Republicans who joined Democrats in a House Oversight Committee vote Wednesday to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi. A massive $15 billion data center project planned for Cumberland County received a green light from Middlesex Township supervisors Wednesday night. York County's Board of Elections is suing the Dover Area School District over its refusal to allow its buildings to be used as polling places. State lawmakers are beginning to negotiate new education spending for historically underfunded public schools in Pennsylvania. And a cultural deep dive: The Philadelphia Museum of Art celebrated its 150th birthday last week.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On the afternoon of September 30th, 1991, an investigator in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania walked carefully through a college chemistry lab – that was also a potential crime scene. The room was a complete mess, with construction debris all over the place and lab equipment strewn across the countertops. It was so cluttered that the investigator hardly knew where to begin. But then he noticed something laying on a nearby counter – it was a soiled rag with a handwritten note sitting next to it. And when he read the note, he gasped. Because he realized that he could be the next to die. Brody has been busy releasing a string of projects, including the country rock single Make Lovin Great Again, the soundtrack to the short action film The Great Escape, and his final 2025 single Im Kinda Busy Now, a 1980s inspired funk blues song about unrequited love that also encourages getting to know the people in our everyday lives. Under his Brodacious Music label, Brody is building a catalog that pulls from country, rock, funk, blues, film music, and big band writing. The track features music and lyrics by Brody Segan, mixed and mastered by Michael Ford, with Segan on lead and backing vocals and keys, Ford on electric guitar, electric bass, and cowbell, and Denisse Ferrara on backing vocals. Beyond his singles, Brody composed the soundtrack for Sukavision's short action film The Great Escape, recorded live at the Frost School of Music's Weeks Recording Studio, and he continues to write for large ensemble. True disciple making is inherently a process of multiplication and That is the topic of our show today. Welcome to Run With Horses! My name is Norman and my goal is to help you thrive as a follower of Jesus. The spiritual life is simple in many ways, but potentially the most difficult part of your life. God invites you to grow, to live intentionally and to join in His mission. It's very cool that we can do that together! Thank you for joining me today! “If you're new here, you can check out past episodes at runwithhorses.net. As always, I appreciate your feedback, questions, and reviews!” **(23:00 – 0:00)* * PART 1 **(00:00) END PART 1** **(27:00 – 5:00) BEGIN PART 2* Part 1: What Are We Making? Big Idea: Churches often aim for “converts” or “Christians” in name, but not reproducing disciple-makers. 1. I'm still processing the lessons from the GARBC Conference and today I a focusing on some of the comments by Tim Walker - Pastor of Restored Church in WIlkes-Barre, PA. •Raise the contrast: “Are we making churchgoers or Christ-followers?” If the disciple you make doesn't make a disciple, have you fully made a disciple? The question is really, what are you making? Often I think the answer is, we are making Christians, and that means something different than genuine followers of Jesus. And definitively something less than disciple makers. 2. Clarifying Definitions •Disciple: Apprentice of Jesus. •Not just knowledge, but obedience and transformation. •Not just attending, but multiplying. •Disciple-maker: Someone who walks alongside others to help them become more like Jesus — and teaches them to do the same. 3. Judo Illustration •Great visual! Consider structuring like this: 1.Knowledge – Learning the basics of Jesus' teaching. 2.Training – Spiritual disciplines, habits, community. 3.Practice – Real-life obedience, failure, growth. 4.Engagement – Helping others through the same path. Jesus' model — He taught, demonstrated, let disciples try, corrected them, then sent them. ⸻ Part 2: Biblical Model – 2 Timothy 2:1–7 2 Timothy 2:1-7 - You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. 1. Paul's Command to Timothy •Four Generations of discipleship: Paul → Timothy → Faithful men → Others •Challenge: Is that chain continuing through us? 2. The Three Illustrations Structure each one with: •Role •What faithfulness looks like •How it connects to discipleship ⸻ A. The Soldier •Characteristics: Endurance, single focus, sacrifice •Danger of distraction: “Entangled in civilian affairs” •Application: Have we become entangled with church programming, comfort, or cultural expectations? B. The Athlete •Characteristics: Obedience to the rules, discipline, training •Application: Are we training people to obey everything Jesus commanded (Matt. 28:20), or just to attend services? The athlete doesn't win by enthusiasm alone—faithful repetition, intentional growth. C. The Farmer •Characteristics: Patience, seasonal awareness, daily labor •Application: Are we cultivating spiritual lives with care, or expecting growth without effort? Discipleship is often slow, messy, and deeply relational. ⸻ Part 3: What Is Our Church Producing? “Every system is perfectly designed to get the results it's getting.” – Classic truth. 1. Evaluate the Fruit •What is your church or small group producing? •Are people becoming: •Independent consumers of content? •Or interdependent contributors to the mission? 2. Cultural Distractions •The modern pull toward: •Safety •Security •Comfort •Convenience •Contrast with Jesus' call: •Deny yourself, take up your cross, follow Me (Mark 8:34) •Intentional sacrifice is part of the pathway to becoming a disciple. ⸻ Conclusion: Future Church Insight •Quote Will Mancini: “The American church is strong on theology, sermons, and leadership. It is weak on making disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus.” 1. Summary •Making disciples must include the vision of multiplication. It is teaching people how to multiply, and giving them the encouragement and support they need to live it out. •True faithfulness means preparing others to do the work of the ministry. 2. Challenge •Evaluate your life: Who are you discipling? •Is the pathway clear, intentional, reproducible? •Are you willing to embrace sacrifice, discipline, and slow growth? ⸻ Additional Thoughts You Could Consider Including •Matthew 28:19-20: The Great Commission is not just evangelism. It's teaching people to obey — long-term transformation. Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age •Jesus' model: He spent 3 years with 12 men. That was His “church growth strategy.” •Barriers to Disciple-Making: •Fear of inadequacy •Busyness •Over-reliance on pastors or programs •Lack of clear models •Encouragement: You don't need to be a theologian — just be a step ahead and willing to walk with someone else. **(1:00)** Disciple making is the life-long pursuit of Jesus lived out in your relationships. We all have the ongoing responsibility to invest in the lives of those around us helping them take steps towards Jesus. For some it is the first step. For many it is the next step. Pass on what you learn and live to others who will live it out and pass it on. – “Thank you for listening today! -If you enjoyed the show you can listen to all the past shows wherever you listen to podcasts. Grocery stores often throw away products that are not expired, but that are past their suggested “Best by” date. That may change in Pennsylvania thanks to a new law signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro last week. It's been more than a century since archeologists discovered the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh known as King Tut. Several members of the discovery team suffered untimely deaths shortly after, and the myth of the “mummy’s curse” was born. Scientists believe that team may have actually been exposed to a toxic fungus. Now, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania say that same fungus could help fight cancer. A recent three day clinic allowed firefighters in the city of Wilkes-Barre to get screened for cancer. First responders have an increased risk of cancer from so-called forever chemicals known as P-FAS, which can come from firefighting gear and smoke inhalation. Republican Congressman Dan Meuser - who explored a run for Pennsylvania governor - reportedly won't challenge Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro next year, even after getting an endorsement from President Donald Trump. More than 450 wildland firefighters are now prepared to repond to wildfires across Pennsylvania and nationwide after training at Shippensburg University. Firefighters from 11 states attended the week-long training, offered through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of Forestry. York City's comprehensive plan appears to be stalled... three months after it was last scheduled for a vote by city council members. A draft of the 200-page plan was previously available on the city's website, but it was removed sometime between April and July. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/24/2025): 3:05pm- Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) have begun their cross-country “Fighting the Oligarchy” tour. On Thursday night, an estimated 15,000 people attended the event at Arizona State University's Mullet Arena. 3:30pm- On Sunday, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) briefly walked out of an interview with ABC News's Jonathan Karl after he was asked whether he believes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) should challenge Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for his Senate seat in 2028. Sanders said the question was “nonsense.” Is AOC more interested in running for president? 3:40pm- According to reports, The Atlantic's editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat with Trump Administration officials discussing planned military strikes against Houthi fighters in Yemen. Spokesman for the White House National Security Council Brian Hughes said the messages Goldberg received appear to be “authentic.” In Goldberg's report, he noted that National Security Advisor Michael Waltz was responsible for the mistake and that he may have also violated a federal records law—as Waltz set some of the messages exchanged on Signal to auto-delete after one week. 4:05pm- Bill D'Agostino—Senior Research Analyst at Media Research Center—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to break down some of the best (and worst) clips from the Sunday shows including CNN being forced to admit 63% of Americans are in favor of the Trump Administration's deportation strategy and Elie Mystal's bizarre MSNBC appearance advocating to end all voter registration laws. 4:30pm- Jimmy Failla—Host of “Fox News Saturday with Jimmy Failla” & “Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show from New York City. On April 19th, Failla will be performing alongside Kennedy in Wilkes Barre, PA. Scanlan is now working with Scott Presler and the Early Vote Action PAC. 5:20pm- Disney Disaster: Disney's live action remake of the classic film Snow White hit theaters on March 21st. Despite needing to earn a reported $600 million to cover production and marketing costs, the film only grossed $43 million in its opening weekend. Part of the problem, according to reports, is Disney's unwillingness to put the film's star, Rachel Zegler, on an extended promotional tour due to her past controversial comments which have included criticisms of the original Snow White story, nasty comments about castmates, and profane remarks about President Donald Trump and his supporters. 5:30pm- Elizabeth Pipko— Spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Trump Administration's successes, Alec Baldwin continually humiliating himself, and Snow White flopping at the box office. Pipko is a former model, a 2016 Trump campaign staffer, and author of the book, “Finding My Place: Making My Parents' American Dream Come True.” 6:05pm- During a Monday cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump noted that “many companies are now moving into the United States”—estimating that trillions of dollars of manufacturing is in the process of returning to the country. 6:15pm- Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) have begun their cross-country “Fighting the Oligarchy” tour. On Thursday night, an estimated 15,000 people attended the event at Arizona State University's Mullet Arena. 6:40pm- Disney Disaster: Disney's live action remake of the classic film Snow White hit theaters on March 21st. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:00pm- Are Democrats in New Jersey looking to “Trump-proof” the state? Rich predicts that the party's overreaction to President Donald Trump's policies—many of which are incredibly popular, according to polling—will result in the election of a Republican governor in 2025. 5:15pm- During a Congressional hearing, Rep. Jasmine Crocket (D-TX) bizarrely claimed that President Donald Trump is going to start World War III…by ending the war between Ukraine and Russia. Wait. What? 5:35pm- Jimmy Failla—Host of Fox Across America & Fox News Saturday Night—joins The Rich Zeoli Show and discusses Joe Piscopo's inability to hit a commercial break, secrets of the Fox News green room, and Rich drinking heavily and then losing his jacket in New York City. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/27/2025): 3:05pm- Senator Dave McCormick—United States Senator from Pennsylvania—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Trump Administration's utilization of tariffs on Canada/Mexico/China to crackdown on fentanyl trafficking, the soaring cost of eggs and how to combat it, the prospects of ending the war between Ukraine and Russia, and providing America with the substantive change voters demanded in November. 3:30pm- Two-time Academy Award winning actor Gene Hackman was found dead at his home in New Mexico. His wife, Betsy Arakawa, was also found dead. Though a carbon monoxide leak was initially suspected to be the cause of death, investigators later clarified that there was no sign of any sort of gas leak. The Santa Fe County sheriff said he was hoping the autopsies would provide an answer to the cause of death. 3:40pm- On Thursday, President Donald Trump spoke with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During a joint press conference from the White House, Trump emphasized the need to end the war between Ukraine and Russia immediately—noting that Europe needs to provide Ukraine with the money and arms necessary to guarantee its long-term protection. Relatedly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit with Trump tomorrow to sign an agreement which will provide security guarantees in exchange for access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals. 3:45pm- While in the Oval Office with President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Vice President JD Vance was asked about his previous critiques of England's recent adversarial stance towards free speech. Vance stood by his statements and noted that England is currently pushing Apple to create a backdoor around encryption—which would allow government officials to gain access to private user data. Vance adroitly pointed-out that the creation of a backdoor would compromise all Apple products—leading to weakened security for American users as well. 4:05pm- Congressman Scott Perry—United States Representative for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the budget plan that passed in the House of Representatives earlier this week. Although Democrats and far-left protesters claim the bill cuts Medicaid, Rep. Perry insists these assertions are “outright fabrications”—and notes, according to estimate, there are “over $1 trillion in improper payments” made through Medicaid. Consequently, there are plenty of opportunities to save taxpayer money by addressing waste and fraud without making any cuts to Medicaid. PLUS is the federal government finally going to stop funding PBS and NPR? 4:30pm- Linda Kerns—Attorney & Pennsylvania Election Integrity Counsel for the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her tireless fight to guarantee election integrity in Pennsylvania. PLUS, is Linda going to bring Matt to the White House Easter Egg Roll instead of Rich?? 4:50pm- The Rich Zeoli Show is joined by a very special guest: Rich's daughter Reagan! But she gets bored mid-interview and walks away for a snack. 5:00pm- Are Democrats in New Jersey looking to “Trump-proof” the state? Rich predicts that the party's overreaction to President Donald Trump's policies—many of which are incredibly popular, according to polling—will result in the election of a Republican governor in 2025. 5:15pm- During a Congressional hearing, Rep.
