A U.S. Marine's adoption of an Afghan war orphan will stand. AP correspondent Ben Thomas reports.
Tom broke his neck and took three week's off and now he's back. Topics: The function of the Supreme Court, Supreme Court Rules laws against boys playing in girls sports. Woman shot by cops, democrats are still inciting violence. AI Porn laws, are they unconstitutional? Local officials take leadership positions on Methuen and Lawrence Nick DiZoglio becomes school Committee vice president in Methuen and DJ Beauregard still pandering to the far left.
In a new decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has allowed a Republican congressman to challenge a state election law. The decision is highly consequential in the precedent that it sets. With this ruling, the Supreme Court has decided that a candidate for office does in fact have the legal standing to sue over an election policy that he or she believes is illegal. The implications of this ruling are truly significant—especially if you remember what happened in the 2020 election, when many of the legal challenges that were raised were dismissed not based on the merits of the case, but due to a “lack of standing.” So today, let's go through the details of this particular case, what the ruling is, and what it means for future elections.
Interesting fact: While all federal officials take an oath that they will support the US Constitution, Supreme Court justices must also take a second (and very profound) oath of office. As New York Times judicial columnist Adam Liptak reports, each of the nine “supremes” must swear that they will “do equal right to the poor and the rich.” Yes, class fairness is not only a core element of justice, but it's supposed out to be a formal measure of Supreme Court behavior.Every justice is aware of this consequential, ethical requirement, since each one took the oath. How damning, then, that the Court's right-wing ideologues feel no twinge of conscience about flagrantly and frequently violating their own word of honor! Call the roll: Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. In case after case that pits corporate power against workers, consumers, small business, voters, communities, our environment, farm families—i.e., you and me—this plutocratic cabal rules for the rich. This month, an independent study of decisions by the Roberts Court revealed that two-thirds of its rulings favor wealthy powers over middle-income and poor people. Thus, our so-called “court of justice” is a primary pusher of inequality, especially through its farfetched decree that unlimited corporate political cash is “free speech,” and that corporations are “people.”Chief Justice Roberts smugly proclaims that the Constitution tells him whether the corporate giant or “the little guy” should win. “That's the oath” I took, he sniffs. This is Jim Hightower saying… Bovine excrement! It's obvious that plutocratic ideologues like him are using the Constitution like a ventriloquist dummy. And—hello, your honorableness—what about that other oath you took about equal fairness for the poor?Do something! There are groups that are working on holding the mighty Supremes accountable—what a world that will be! The Supreme Court has put a stop to Trump's efforts to militarize the streets of America. Specifically, they ruled that Trump cannot federalize Illinois National Guard troops and deploy them to the streets of Chicago. This is one of the first times the Supreme Court has pushed back on Trump's dictatorial zeal, and it's a ruling that likely will have broad implications regarding Trump's efforts to militarize Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, California, and beyond. This development comes at the same time Trump is being devastated by new releases of the Epstein files, and at the same time - a lawsuit is filed to remove Trump's name from the Kennedy Center, and at the same time - a federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to bring back the Venezuelan immigrants they unconstitutionally deported to El Salvador. It feels like Trump is losing power. And it seems like justice is trending. Ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on a case that would effectively allow Republicans to gain five seats in the House. On Dec. 4, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the redrawn election map for Texas will be allowed to stand. Here, we go through the backstory of the case, as well as what it means for the upcoming midterm elections.
A comedian says he is not guilty of allegedly making death threats against Stanislaus County Supervisor Channce Condit last month. Comedian Anthony Krayenhagen pleaded not guilty last Friday to charges of making threats against an elected official, making a threat not related to someone being a public official and harassment via electronic devices. A Bay Area animal rights activist in a high-profile trial involving the theft of chickens will have to serve time in jail. A judge has sentenced a 23-year-old Zoe Rosenberg to a hybrid sentence of 90 days in jail. She will serve 30 days in jail and become eligible for jail alternatives for the final 60 days. Rosenberg made national headlines for taking four chickens from Perdue Farm's Slaughterhouse in Petaluma in 2023. Texas can use a redrawn congressional map that adds as many as five Republican-friendly seats, the supreme court has ruled, giving Donald Trump and the GOP a major win in their push to add Republican congressional seats ahead of next year’s midterm elections.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From June 28, 2024: On June 26, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Murthy v. Missouri—the “jawboning” case, concerning a First Amendment challenge to the government practice of pressuring social media companies to moderate content on their platforms. But instead of providing a clear answer one way or the other, the Court tossed out the case on standing. What now? Lawfare Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Wittes discussed the case with Kate Klonick of St. Johns University School of Law and Matt Perault, Director of the Center on Technology Policy at the University of North Carolina. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Summary In this episode of Armed American Radio, host Mark Walters discusses the recent Georgia Supreme Court decision regarding the carrying of handguns by individuals aged 18 to 21. Joined by Paul Markle, the conversation delves into the interpretation of the Georgia Constitution, the implications of age restrictions on rights, and the hypocrisy surrounding laws that treat young adults as capable of making significant life decisions while denying them certain rights. The discussion also touches on the role of military training in the context of civilian rights and the potential for legislative changes in response to the court's ruling. Takeaways The Georgia Supreme Court upheld a law restricting handgun carry for ages 18-21. Interpretation of the Georgia Constitution is open to debate. Age restrictions on rights often lack logical consistency. Young adults can enter into significant contracts but are denied certain rights. The hypocrisy of age laws is evident in various contexts. Military training does not equate to civilian rights. Legislative action is necessary to address these issues. The concept of tyranny is highlighted by unequal laws. Proposed solutions include allowing young adults to choose their rights. The conversation emphasizes the need for honest discussions about rights. On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a 5–4 decision in Trump v. J.G.G., lifting a pair of temporary orders from U.S. District Judge James Boasberg blocking the administration from using the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to justify deporting alleged noncitizen gang members. In an unsigned majority opinion, the Supreme Court did not weigh in on President Trump's application of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to foreign-born gang members but specified that “the Fifth Amendment entitles aliens to due process of law in the context of removal proceedings,” provided their challenges are brought in the jurisdiction where they are detained.Ad-free podcasts are here! Many listeners have been asking for an ad-free version of this podcast that they could subscribe to — and we finally launched it. In one of the first cases brought against the Trump administration to reach the Supreme Court, a five-justice majority has ruled that Trump must comply with a lower court order to pay money owed to USAID contractors for work already performed. The court rejected Trump's efforts to avoid paying what the government owed to the contractors. This is an important signal that the Supreme Court - at least five justices - will not just roll over and allow every executive branch power grab attempted by Trump and company. If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support Glenn and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/glennkirschn...TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/glennkirschner2See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
