Joining us today we are honored to have Hazel Thornton who served as a juror on Erik Menendez' first trial in 1993. We have so many questions for her about what it was like to see all of the testimony and what conclusions she came to. To clarify both brothers, Erik and Lyle were tried, at the same time, for murdering their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez. But each brother had their own separate jury, who all sat in the courtroom together (sometimes one jury would sit in the jury box while the other would sit in the gallery — and then they would switch). Sometimes one jury would be excused when the evidence did not pertain to their defendant. Each jury deliberated separately…and each jury resulted in a deadlock. There are high profile cases you think you know, but the truth is far more nuance, complicated and terrible than anything the media could ever cover during a headline making trial. On the evening of June 20th 1989, Lyle Menendez (21) and his brother Erik Menendez (18) shot their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez to death in their Beverly Hills home. Of that there is no dispute. On a hot summer night last July in a small town in east Texas, sisters Zi'Ariel Robinson-Oliver, 9, A'Miyah Hughes, 8, and Te'Mari Robinson-Oliver, 5, were reported missing by their babysitter. Their mother Shommaonique Oliver-Wickerson rushed home from work to find the Cass County Sheriff's office, Texas Parks and Wildlife, volunteer firefighters, neighbors and family members searching the surrounding area for her little daughters. What happened next was every mother's worst nightmare.At 2 AM the sisters were found dead in a pond on a neighboring private property, two hundred yards from their home. Officials allowed the family and community to believe the deaths were accidental drownings. Convicted serial rapist Harvey Weinstein (HW) will be sentenced AGAIN in Los Angeles on February 23, 2023 following his conviction of rape, sexual penetration by foreign object and forcible oral copulation. He is already serving a 23-year prison sentence after being convicted of rape and sexual assault charges in New York in 2020. Joining us today are Sarah Ann Masse and Rowena Chiu who say they survived assaults by HW though sadly their cases were not addressed in these convictions. You will not believe it when Rowena tells us the abhorrent details of the Non Disclosure Agreement she was made to sign by HW's lawyers in order to silence her about almost being raped. Ana Walshe, a 39-year-old mother of three boys ages 2, 4 and 6 and who was a successful real estate executive from Cohasset, Massachusetts, disappeared sometime after having dinner with her husband and a friend just this past New Year's Eve. She was reported missing by her employer, not her husband Brian Walshe, who claims he last saw her on New Year's Day when she left for work that morning. Police were immediately suspicious of Brian's story and we now know why. In today's episode, we discuss all of the extremely disturbing findings that led police to arrest him for her murder — though at the time of this recording, her remains have not yet been found. Today we are joined by Retired FBI agent Bobby Chacon, who led the dive team searching for the rest of Laci Peterson's remains in east San Francisco Bay, after her torso was discovered on the shore. Bobby recounts in deep detail what it was like on the ground during the search, his observations about the site and what he thinks happened to Laci and Conner. When you say the name Laci Peterson many of us conjure up the sweet smiling face of a woman, who was eight months pregnant, glowing with excitement for the imminent birth of her son Conner. On June 22 1983, 15 year old Emanuela Orlandi was abducted on her way home from a music lesson in the center of Rome, Italy. Emanuela lived with her parents, three sisters and brother in an apartment in Vatican City, where her father worked in an administrative position for the Pope. One of the few secular families to live on the Vatican grounds, her disappearance sparked international interest, leading her grieving family down a confusing torturous road to find the truth. In May 1996, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams were murdered at their campsite in the popular Shenandoah National Park in the middle of rural Virginia, not far from a busy tourist resort called Skyland. Many people, including park and resort staff, had seen the happy, friendly couple in the area and were alarmed when they were reported missing. As experienced outdoorswomen, Lollie and Julie knew how to take care of themselves and each other. When their bodies were discovered, despite evidence that the women had been brutally tortured and killed, law enforcement decided not alert the public that a murderer could be in the park, and in fact diverted attention away from the crime.
