Then, the guys get into the fight cards for this week, including undefeated lightweight prospect Frank Martin headlining on his rise towards a lightweight title shot in the Showtime/PBC card from Las Vegas. Martin has skill, lots of potential and it's definitely worth keeping an eye on whether he's impressive on Saturday night? Dan also has more on the undercard fights and why there had to be some adjustments for Saturday nights PBC show and in two weeks the undercard of Errol Spence and Terrell Crawford from Premier Boxing Champions on Pay-per-view?Then, the attention turns to the "Motor City" and the Matchroom boxing card featuring women's Undisputed 130 lb Champion Alycia Baumgardner defending her four titles against Christina Lindartou in a scheduled 10 round defense of her titles. Baumgardner is a very entertaining flashy boxer and will the veteran Lindartou give her much of a threat? The guys then go over some news, including the first press conferences for heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, who will square off in early August and then Usyk getting ready to defend his three heavyweight titles against Englishman Daniel Dubois in Poland later on in August, as those guys also met with the media this week. Finally, there is some nostalgia involving one of the great Hall of Fame fighters celebrating a birthday this week in Julio Cesar Chavez. The guys go over some of the amazing facts and stories of Chavez's reign as one of boxing's great champs. And Dan also reminisces about Arturo Gatti's final fight, 16 years ago, which was part of a rare "split card" in two locations both shown by HBO's boxing coverage. All of this is part of the "Big Fight Weekend Preview" podcast and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google, and Spotify!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/big-fight-weekend/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We're back on a Wednesday!!!! Legendary filmmaker/documentarian Adam Scorgie stops it to talk about his latest Doc, "Thunder," the life and death of Arturo Gatti. THE MOST recognizable Canadian Boxer, not named Lennox Lewis, died under mysterious circumstances in 2014 in Brazil. Adam and His team had unprecedented access to Gatti's family and investigators as they tried to piece together what happened to "Thunder" the night he allegedly killed himself. Adam recounting the story as he filmed the documentary is INCREDIBLE theater. We also tapped Scorgie's brain on CBC VS PEEPEE and if government funding is the real issue. We took a minute to console each other as the Leafs and Oilers laid giant fat EGGS in game one of their opening-round playoff series. What's worse? Blowing a 2 goal lead twice OR getting blown out from Jump Street? I say "blowout" and explain why. It's all about the proper use of time.

Why does Jersey respond so hard to certain stories? Why does it produce a certain type of athlete? Behind nearly every superstar is a publicist. For a young Dale Earnhardt Jr, the man behind the public-machine that became the Dale Jr and the Budweiser number-eight was a man named Jade Gurss. Not many will know the name, but he was a major player in the growth and trajectory of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Hall of Fame NASCAR career. For the first time ever, Jade and Dale Jr sit down to talk about the good-old-days and some that were far from it.While doing public relations for Budweiser, Jade was the man managing Dale Jr behind the scenes. From at-track interviews to magazine articles, to appearances on major television shows, Jade Gurss was making things happen. Gurss and Dale Jr talk about some of the biggest things they did together, from presenting at the Video Music Awards, being on the Late Show, to Dale Jr hosting an episode of MTV cribs, it was a publicity path that brought Dale, and NASCAR, to areas of American culture that most drivers never went. Just how did some of it come about and how did the introverted Dale Jr handle being thrust into the spotlight on such a stage? It wasn't always simple. Dale and Jade even joke about sitting between Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore at the VMA's to a blundered appearance on David Letterman's show. The print about the second-generation driver didn't just come in racing publications, the exposure soon rocketed from Sports Illustrated all the way to Playboy and Rolling Stone magazine. This conversation isn't just a two-way street either. Co-host Mike Davis, a long-time employee, and friend of Dale got his introduction and big opportunity getting hired by Jade Gurss to fill in for him on the Bud-8. The role grew Davis' public relations career to new heights. They reunite and tell stories of what it was like managing a young and difficult driver during years that saw everything from major parties to major appearances. They also put it all out on the table about Davis' decision to leave Gurss and take a full-time job with JR Motorsports. Takes of boxing ring black eyes with Arturo Gatti and rock-star-like bandana coverups highlight this insightful conversation. They also get deep about Dale's Mike Wallace interview and how Dale Jr believed his father pulled him from the burning Corvette racecar at Sonoma. Jade opens up about writing the book about Dale Jr., Driver #8, and the meeting with Teresa Earnhardt and Ty Norris right before it went to print. Before Jade showed up, Dale Jr and Mike Davis chit-chat about a cute video of Isla, that hints at the desire to be a racecar driver someday. Was it just cute or does Dale take it seriously? They also talk about the coming-of-age process of Jr Motorsports driver Noah Gragson and how he's developed relationships with sponsors that have helped him grow in his career.AskJr presented by Xfinity delivers some tough questions for Dale, including one about the role of the flagman that gets him thinking about something he's never paid much attention to. He shares a story about the first time TJ Majors spotted a Cup car and might've exaggerated the green flag call by a few corners. Dale discovers that he'll be racing against his great friend Josh Berry at Richmond this week, as Dale prepares for his lone time behind the wheel of a NASCAR racecar in 2021.The DJD gang poke fun at each other, mainly at producer Matthew Dillner's expense, and have a great time during this packed episode of awesomeness. On July 11, 2009, Gatti was found dead in a hotel in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil, where he was on holiday with his Brazilian wife, Amanda Rodrigues, and their 10-month-old son. He was 37 years old. Gatti was to attend his sister's wedding the same day. Gatti's widow was charged with first-degree murder after the strap of her bag was found stained with blood.[40] Rodrigues could not explain how she spent more than 10 hours in the hotel room without realising Gatti was dead. The Brazilian authorities initially ruled Gatti's death a homicide, but after the coroner's autopsy report was released, they declared it was a suicide, and his widow was set free. Sean & Johnston present the findings of their investigation into whether it was murder or suicide. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
