Lamb to discuss the Rachel Morin homicide.Rachel Morin, a mother of five, was attacked while hiking on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, on August 5, 2023. Her body was found the next day. A DNA sample from Rachel's killer matched a sample found at the scene of a March 26, 2023, home invasion in Los Angeles where a young girl was viciously attacked. Officials believe the man on the surveillance video leaving the LA home invasion is the SAME person who killed Rachel. The man is described as Hispanic, 5 ft 9 in, 160 pounds, and in his 20s. Investigators were in Chicago this week following leads in the case more than two weeks after they released the video of the suspect. Officials believe the suspect will kill again. After more than three decades, San Francisco prosecutors have charged Ricky Dawson in the 1992 rape and strangulation of Nancy Hernandez, a 45-year-old woman found dead in a Chinatown alley. When a murder ends in suicide, investigators lose one of the most important pieces of the puzzle—the person who could explain why. In this episode, I take you inside several recent murder-suicide cases from across the United States, including tragedies involving entire families, intimate partners, and parents and children. From Michigan to Oklahoma, Delaware, and Florida, these heartbreaking cases remind us that every scene tells a story, but it's the evidence that reveals what truly happened. As a forensic death investigator, I explain how investigators reconstruct these complex scenes by examining body position, injuries, blood evidence, trajectories, fire damage, digital evidence, timelines, and countless other details. When there is no suspect to interview, no trial, and often no suicide note, the investigation must rely on science, careful documentation, and the facts left behind. We'll also discuss why protective orders don't always prevent violence, why investigators avoid speculation during active cases, and why it's important to distinguish between homicide and suicide when understanding these tragedies. Throughout the episode, I share the questions investigators ask, the evidence they search for, and why the answers aren't always immediately clear. These cases are difficult to hear, but they also highlight the dedication of investigators, first responders, and forensic professionals who work tirelessly to uncover the truth for victims and their families. In this final episode of Season 5, we expose the warning signs of domestic violence-related murder-suicide with Danielle Edwards, Victim Services Coordinator for Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, and Kylee Elliott, Senior Program Coordinator for Training and Engagement at the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. Using a Georgia case study as a point of reference, we explore events leading up to the final act of violence, the ripple effects on surviving families and communities, and a practical approach to postvention that helps people heal and reduces future harm.This episode discusses homicide and suicide.We also dig into what the data can tell us and what it still misses. National figures point to roughly 1,200 deaths a year in murder-suicide incidents, with intimate partner violence making up most cases, and firearms playing an outsized role. Beyond the statistics, lie instances of coercive control, suicide threats, and financial abuse long before any physical violence is visible. We take an honest look at why survivors may not label their experience as abuse, how systems can unintentionally shut doors when shelters are full or safety planning is skipped, and why “just leave” ignores the realities of money, housing, isolation, and fear.We also focus on what happens after the unthinkable. Murder-suicide can leave a wide circle of survivors including children, extended family, coworkers, and witnesses who face traumatic grief, stigma, and overwhelming practical needs. Danielle and Kylee explain postvention and why they treat postvention as prevention, including Georgia's survivor-driven Support for Survivors of Murder Suicide Project, clinician networks, support groups, and a freely shared response protocol communities can adapt now.

Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: July 24, 2026This episode of Weird Darkness follows the disappearance and death of Theresa Dawn Jones near Bernice, Louisiana, a case that ran from a missing persons report to an accidental-drowning ruling to a homicide reinvestigation — and the phone call from a psychic medium a thousand miles away that pointed her family straight to the body.On the night of February 2nd, 2023, fifty-six-year-old Theresa Jones walked out of her home in the Evergreen community on Lake D'Arbonne wearing pink pajamas, leaving behind her phone, her wallet, her car keys, and the eyeglasses she needed to see, and by the time her boyfriend returned from a work trip in Lake Charles he found the house torn apart and Theresa gone. The Union Parish Sheriff's Office searched with a Lincoln Parish K9 unit that tracked her scent out to Highway 2 before losing it, chased sightings of a woman carrying gas cans and a stop at a Circle K in West Monroe, then stalled. Her daughters Ashley Deese and Brittany turned to Carolyn Clapper, a Wisconsin medium who took their call at 10:48 at night and, over forty-five minutes, described a fallen log at a tree line, a creek, and a sickness that would come over whoever went looking — directions that led Ashley to her mother's body in Edmonds Creek the next morning, found nude from the waist down with the water still shallow around her. Dr. Frank Peretti's autopsy in Little Rock ruled the death an accidental drowning with methamphetamine intoxication as a contributing factor, and the sheriff's office closed the case in August 2023, but Ashley never accepted it, and a retired Texas aquatic-death investigator named Greg Lawson publicly questioned why no rape kit or fingernail scraping was ever done. More than a year later, private forensic consultant John Oliveira of Applied Forensic Solutions reviewed the file and found only 150 milliliters of water in the lungs, livor mortis fixed in the legs rather than the face-down position she was found in, a clean upper jacket above the waterline, and bruising the autopsy never recorded — evidence pointing away from drowning and toward a body staged in the water after death. At the end of October 2025, Oliveira presented those findings to Union Parish detectives, and the sheriff's office reopened Theresa Jones's death as a possible homicide, more than two years after the paperwork first called it an accident.

From the 911 call to the pending toxicology results, I'll explain what investigators look for when responding to an unexpected death in the home, how prior incidents become part of the investigative process, and why every piece of evidence matters. As a forensic death investigator, I also share my professional perspective on scene documentation, autopsy findings, toxicology testing, and the importance of remaining objective while allowing the facts to determine the outcome. In June of 1987, eighteen-year-old Michael Jefferson "Mike" Adams seemed to have everything going for him. A recent early graduate of Cooper High School, Mike had already enrolled at Texas Tech University to study architecture, worked full-time to save for college, and had purchased his own car through hard work and determination.On the night of June 8, after closing the grocery store where he worked, Mike drove to his family's home in Abilene. His stepsister watched from a window as he stepped out of his car and casually spoke with someone waiting in another vehicle parked along the street. The interaction appeared completely normal.Mike was never seen again.When his family awoke the next morning, his car remained in the driveway, his wallet and cash were still inside the house, and his bed had never been slept in. Detectives quickly concluded that Mike had likely believed he was leaving for only a short time with someone he knew and trusted.Over the years, police have explored numerous theories surrounding Mike's disappearance. Despite decades of investigation, none of those leads have ever provided definitive answers.Nearly forty years later, Mike Adams remains missing.
