A native Detroiter, Dr. Canty, is a psychologist, writer, photographer, educator, consultant and cancer survivor. She holds a terminal degree in psychology as well as a post-doctoral fellowship from the Wayne State University School of Medicine.  Then life happened. And grew dark. Her husband of 11 years went missing and was found murdered two weeks later.   After the dismemberment of her husband in 1985, the media frenzy caused her to leave Michigan and start over.  She did not speak of her loss for 30 years.   Dr. Canty became an unintentional expert in the field of homicide survivors.  Nothing in her background, nothing in the media nor books could have prepared her for the decades-long process she was about to enter. 3 top tips for my audience: 1.   Ask yourself what messages pop culture portrays about homicide (in music, TV, movies and merchandise like the “Cereal Killer spoon” and games).  2.   As a friend or neighbour learn what you can do to help someone who has lost someone close to them from intentional death 3.   Know this is an equal-opportunity club.  Homicide reaches the old, young, educated, illiterate, urban, rural, men, women, rich, poor, all races and all walks of life. www.jancantyphd.com Subscribe to my channel, check out mystepstosobriety.com and tell your friends about my mission to make this world a little bit better, one interview at a time!

Mont Vernon is a town located in New Hampshire in the United States. It is the home of around 2,500 residents, and consists almost entirely of single-family homes and just a handful of stores. It has a real quaint feel to it and is considered by many to be the perfect location to raise a family, free from the violence that can plague bigger towns and cities. In October of 2009, however, this quaint town would be rocked by an extremely brutal murder that became a chilling reminder to the world that you're never truly safe, even in your own home.SPONSORS -Best Fiends: Thank you to Best Fiends for sponsoring this episode! On June 4, 1988, Mary Morgan Pewitt, 25, was found murdered. Over 30 stab wounds were found on her body. During the early hours of the morning, Mary Morgan Pewitt's mother, Elizabeth Morgan, was returning the girls to Mary after after an overnight stay. No one answered. Amber, Mary's youngest daughter, peeked into her mother's bedroom window. Her mother lay dead on her bed covered in blood. She had been stabbed 30 times. The case remains unsolved three decades later, and has the distinction of being Comanche's only unsolved murder. The beginningMary had been married three times, the first being at the age of 16. There were two more marriages (Tim Allen and Stan Pewitt). The second ended in divorce and the third was heading in the same direction. Money was tight for Mary. She had been injured while working in a nursing home. This limited her employment options. Prior to her murder, she was working at Harold's Club, the only bar in Comanche, Oklahoma. Mary closed the bar on Friday night, June 3, and brought the receipts to the owner's home. She then went home to 611 N. 10th Street, where her boyfriend Randy was already waiting for her. He told police that they watched TV and he left at 12:45 a.m. that morning. Kira, Mary's daughter, told me he left to play video games with his 8-year-old son. Someone entered the home after Randy left and stabbed Mary in the neck and upper chest. In an attempt to defend herself, she suffered wounds to her arms and hands. Although she was found in a t-shirt, underwear, and socks, the autopsy showed she had not been sexually assaulted. A first cousin of Mary's, Becky Pentland, says the family refuses to let this case remain a cold case. Rebecca Pentland grew up with her cousin, Mary Morgan."She was just a world of fun. I just love her so much...I thought of her as a little sister."According to Pentland, "This wasn't like a gunshot or something like that. She was basically butchered and slaughtered. She was stabbed over 35 times. I want them in prison and paying for what they've done." Pentland added, "She was a very loving and giving person and she did not deserve this. She loved her daughters, she loved her family. They need to pay. They need to pay for what they did."If you have any information about this case, you can call the OSBI at (580) 248-4050 so this family can find the closure they need. In addition, it comes out that this isn't the first time something so horrific has happened in this very house. Another act of violence, committed by the dead woman's husband. In the end, fingers are pointed, and no one wants to take responsibility, but will this woman get any justice? Along the way, we find out that judges think pregnant women can't leave the house, that some family holidays are worse than others, and that some houses may just be cursed!! Hosted by James Pietragallo & Jimmie Whisman New episodes every Thursday! Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com & use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.com Go to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports! Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurder Also, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! The Murdaugh Murders, Money & Mystery | Unsolved South Carolina

This is the story of Gloria Satterfield. She died after a fall at the Murdaugh's family home on Groundhog Day,  2018. Since then, her family has lived an unending winter of abuse and manipulation that lawsuits and criminal indictments say were part of cold, calculated scheme by Alex Murdaugh.Authorities accuse Alex Murdaugh of stealing over $3 million in settlement money intended for Gloria's family, first beguiling his former housekeeper's sons into a sketchy agreement to sue him, then using his connections in the Hampton community and legal profession to keep them in the dark while he siphoned away money that wasn't his.Meanwhile, state prosecutors now say Gloria's case has revealed similar criminal affronts to many other victims, kept hidden in the immense shadow of influence cast by Alex Murdaugh's prominent, powerful family. In all, police claim Murdaugh stole nearly $5 million over the course of 7 years.More on the Murdaugh saga: https://abcnews4.com/murdaugh~~~~~~~~~~  Unsolved South Carolina is a production of ABC News 4 in Charleston, South Carolina.Anne Emerson - Host, ProducerDrew Tripp - Executive Producer, Social Media, Graphic DesignDaniel Michener - Producer, Audio EngineerMaxwell Harrison, KJ Morrison - MusicDouglas Stewart - Graphic DesignPlease consider leaving a review and a 5-star rating if you enjoy the podcast. 9-11-2012. That was a day most red-blooded Americans will never forget. As a US Army Veteran I know I never will. That was the day we lost a US Ambassador and personal friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Chris Stevens. We also lost a civilian contractor, Sean Smith, and two former Navy SEALs, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods. All of their deaths could have been avoided, and SHOULD have. So many absolute blunders and horrible decisions were made that night, and the weeks leading up to that night, that people should have gone to prison at a minimum. Instead, it's difficult to say anyone, ANYONE, has even been held accountable, other than possibly losing an election over it.Last week the attendees of the SEHIA Conference in San Antonio had the amazing opportunity to hear a first-hand account of what really happened that night from one of the survivors, John "Tig" Tiegen. John was working as a CIA contractor, providing security for the covert CIA annex that was less than a mile away from the US Consulate that was attacked in the early evening of 9-11-12. John dispelled some rumors, confirmed others and most importantly, gave an almost minute by minute account of the cowardly actions of some, and the incredibly heroic actions of others, as that fateful night unfolded. How did the United States, with the most powerful military in the world, a massive intelligence apparatus, political and economic influence in every corner of the world and an intimate understanding of terror groups not be fully prepared to defend our strategic assets, let alone a US Ambassador, on the anniversary of 9-11?Above all else, all of us need to ask ourselves "What kind of leaders, political or military, would abandon their own citizens?" And as a follow on to that question, do we really want them in charge today? Each of us needs to answer that for ourselves but I think I make it clear how I would answer that. For more about John Tiegan go to his website at: https://www.johntiegen.com/pages/bioAll Things Crime is a new, comprehensive video series that will explore every aspect of crime and the ensuing investigation, one video interview at a time. The host, Jared Bradley, is the President of M-Vac Systems, which is a wet-vacuum based forensic DNA collection system, and has experience traveling the world training all levels of law enforcement and crime lab DNA analysts in using the M-Vac to help solve crime. Along the way he has met people from all walks of life and experience in investigating crimes, so is putting that knowledge to use in another way by sharing it in these videos. If you are interested in more videos about the M-Vac, DNA and investigations, also check out the M-Vac's channel @https://www.youtube.com/c/MVacSystems...

On November 1st, 1980, the body of a young female was found on the side of Interstate 45 near Huntsville in Walker County, Texas. For 41 years, this girl was unidentified and known as Walker County Jane Doe. It wasn't for the lack of investigative effort – the case had been revisited periodically over the years. Rather, the Jane Doe's identity remained unknown because the technology didn't exist until recently. When Walker County Sheriff's Detective Thomas Bean took up the case in 2015, even he had to wait for the right technology to come along. Finally, in July 2020, he connected with Othram Incorporated and on November 9th, 2021, Walker County Jane Doe was given back her rightful name, 14-year-old Sherri Ann Jarvis, and her family finally knew what happened to her. Though identifying Sherri is certainly an amazing feat and a step in the right direction, her killer remains at large, leaving her story still unresolved. This week's story involves the homicide of a 23 year old Montana man named Randy Church . It was a cold winter day back in February 1985. Randy Church worked at Pizza Hut. He was also a Montana State University student. While closing alone, an unknown killer entered the Pizza Hut restaurant, shot Randy to death and stole just under $1,000.00. Randy's parents were heartbroken and died before ever finding out who killed their son. However, there may be a silver lining in the clouds because there is also DNA on this case. I am hopeful that law enforcement can test it and find a donor. This case remains open and needs someone to call in a tip and give this family some peace. Five hours later her body was found off a rural road southwest of town; she had been stabbed and run over. Early on, investigators received a deluge of tips but by year's end, the calls were drying up.At the same time, a task force operating in Baton Rouge was back on the hunt for a serial killer after the arrest of Derrick Todd Lee showed he was not the only monster stalking the streets. Could Teresa's murder be connected to these crimes or did the answer lie somewhere closer to home?Following up on a new tip, detectives turned their attention towards a Louisiana State Trooper. Their investigation would dig deep into the man's life in order to determine if the officer might be moonlighting as a brutal killer or if, perhaps, their unknown suspect might be someone who had disappeared without leaving any evidence to his identity.FB: https://www.facebook.com/TraceEvidencePod/IG: https://www.instagram.com/traceevidencepod/TW: https://twitter.com/TraceEvPodVisit https://www.trace-evidence.com for more information, case photos, contact information and more.Merch: https://traceevidence.threadless.com/ Music Courtesy of: "Lost Time" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Homicide Highway is a True Crime podcast hosted by Harley Newell and Lacy Wilkinson. We are two friends who met because of our love for true crime. We cover and analyze cases down to the last gory detail. No case is off limits for us to discuss, no matter how much we may disagree on the circumstances or the outcome.Billy Milligan was 5 years old when he was sodomized and buried alive by his step father. This trauma, along with his father completing suicide was the trauma that led to his personalities to splinter into others. What happens when one of your personalities decides to be a violent rapist? Well not good things. The victims in this story were also pushed to the side with the media frenzy that took over once the diagnoses came out that this man had 24 personalities living in his head.
