Laura Richards and co-host Lisa Bilyeu are joined by former CIA spy and intelligence expert Andrew Bustamante to unpack the complex web of evidence, abuse, and control unfolding in the Sean “Diddy” trial. Laura, Lisa and Andrew explore the charges against Combs including that Combs abused, threatened, and coerced women and others, and led a racketeering conspiracy that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice, in comparison with particular testimonies including Regina Ventura, Cassie's mother, Dawn Richard, Kerry Morgan, "The Punisher” and Kid Cudi. Laura highlights how abusers weaponise fear and power to maintain control, and how those in their orbit enable the abuse—whether through silence or active participation. Andrew brings a spy's lens to the case, analyzing Diddy's tactics through the eyes of a trained operative—making powerful connections between psychological warfare and public manipulation. This isn't just about Sean Combs and Cassie Ventura. It's bigger than that. It's about a systemic failure to protect women and girls—and what must change. Listen now. Share it widely. And follow Crime Analyst. Knowledge is power—and this knowledge could save a life. Everything changed when women dared to speak up. This week, with my co-host, criminal behavioral analyst Laura Richards, and special guest ex-CIA spy Andrew Bustamante by my side, we're dissecting the walls of power, money, intimidation, and silence surrounding Diddy's alleged abuse. We break down Cassie's mother's pivotal testimony, explore the mechanics of coercion, sex trafficking and racketeering charges, and lay out practical strategies for any woman feeling trapped by threats and shame. We ask the uncomfortable questions: When the world won't protect women, what does justice really look like? And—how do we take back our stories, our safety, and our agency, even when going up against the untouchable? This special series on Women of Impact rips the lid off the high-profile Diddy trial, breaking down in real-time how control, coercion, and emotional abuse unravel—and how victims get trapped, blamed, and silenced. I sit down with my co-host and criminal behavioral analyst, Laura Richards (who literally changed the law on coercive control) and we talk to psychotherapist, Dr. Nadine (who lived through her own real-life “Wolf of Wall Street” romance turned nightmare) and ABC correspondent & criminal defense attorney, Brian Buckmire, to decode the EXACT playbook predators use + what we MUST look out for. In this explosive deep dive, we break down: - What actually makes women—especially young, ambitious, and talented ones—so vulnerable to abusive “charmers” (even the smart, “could never happen to me” types). - Why women don't just “leave”—and why that whole question is dangerously missing the point. - The critical difference between grooming, mentoring, and manipulation—and how to spot when it crosses the line. - The devastating toll of gaslighting, isolation, cognitive dissonance, and shame—and how abusers expertly use these to keep women silent, scared, and stuck. - The defense's playbook: how manipulation continues even in the courtroom, flipping blame on victims and exploiting doubts about “consent.” - Exactly what to look for to protect yourself and the women you love—long before the point of no return. Because, as Laura and Dr. Nadine said: it is NEVER your fault. There is NOTHING you could have said or done to deserve abuse. And the mission of this series? To make damn sure it never happens to another woman, ever again. On today's episode of Women of Impact, host Lisa Bilyeu dives headfirst into the explosive start of the Diddy trial—a case that's sending shockwaves through the world of celebrity, power, and abuse. Joined by criminal analyst Laura Richards and defense attorney Karen Conti, Lisa unpacks the allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs: abuse, coercion, manipulation, and an alleged pattern of violence going back decades. The trial's centerpiece? Cassie's 35-page lawsuit and a damning hotel hallway video that's impossible to unsee. Is Cassie a gold digger—or a victim finally being heard? Why do so many women's voices go ignored for so long? Our experts break down how coercion and power imbalances keep women trapped, expose the tactics defense teams use to discredit survivors, and share crucial signs to help women avoid the trap in the first place. This is more than a celebrity scandal—it's a pivotal moment for all women. Tune in as we shine a light on the realities of abuse, challenge the legal and cultural systems that enable it, and share tools every woman needs to protect herself.
After publishing the story of a woman trapped in a marriage with a narcissist, I wasn't sure how it would land. It wasn't flashy. It didn't end in violence or arrest. But the response was overwhelming. Listeners wrote in to say, “That was me.” Some still carry the trauma years later. Others are just now realizing what they went through was abuse. In this episode, we hear from listeners who saw their own relationships reflected in Ashley's story. We also speak with criminal behavior analyst Laura Richards to understand how abuse often hides in plain sight—through gaslighting, coercive control, and emotional manipulation. And we ask: what happens when the narcissist isn't a partner—but a parent? Or when the survivor is a man? This bonus episode is about the quiet kind of abuse—the kind people are afraid to talk about but desperately need to hear.
This episode is sponsored in part by Betterhelp. We're back with behavioral science expert Laura Richards for Part 2 of our deep dive into coercive control—and how it shows up in some of today's most talked-about celebrity cases. Laura, who spent ten years at New Scotland Yard and helped establish the UK's coercive control laws, joins us again to unpack the ways power and control are used to manipulate, silence, and harm. This time, we dig into recent headlines involving Kanye West, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Britney Spears, and the Depp v. Heard trial. Laura explores the public's reaction to each case, exposing how gender bias and societal conditioning influence who we believe—and who we dismiss. We also discuss how these patterns connect back to cults, Hollywood, and broader systems of manipulation. And since Laura's work centers around prevention, she asks Sarah and Nippy to reflect on what might have helped them exit NXIVM sooner. This episode includes a trigger warning for sexual assault, murder, and domestic abuse. If you haven't heard Part 1 yet, be sure to listen to that first. This episode is sponsored in part by Betterhelp. What do serial killers, cult leaders, and domestic abusers have in common? According to criminal behavior analyst Laura Richards, quite a lot. In this powerful conversation, Laura explains the concept of coercive control—the psychological abuse tactic often at the core of these crimes—and how it plays out across intimate relationships, cults, and high-profile cases. Laura spent a decade at New Scotland Yard investigating rape, murder, and abduction. She went on to found the Homicide Prevention Unit and Paladin, the world's first national stalking advocacy service. Her work helped reduce the murder rate in the UK by 58 percent and led to coercive control being criminalized there. Now, she's fighting for similar legal reforms in the U.S. In Part 1 of our conversation, Laura offers insight into the behaviors and warning signs she sees in the cases of Gabby Petito, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, “Dirty” John Meehan, British serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, Larry Ray (of the Sarah Lawrence cult case), and NXIVM's Keith Raniere. This episode gives you a new lens for spotting red flags—and a deeper understanding of how abusers manipulate power and control, so major trigger warning for sexual assault, murder, and domestic violence this week. Coercive control is about trying to take away someone's autonomy and agency. It's a form of domestic abuse that is often misunderstood and frequently dismissed. In this replay episode, I sit down with the incredible Laura Richards—renowned criminal behavioral analyst and expert on domestic violence—to break it all down. Laura and I discuss the misuse of terms like “narcissistic abuse” and “toxic relationships,” and why getting the terminology right is critical. When these words are misapplied, it can cause real harm, making it harder for victims to recognize what's happening to them and for others to take it seriously. We also talk about the broader societal factors that allow domestic violence to persist and why these patterns are so deeply embedded. We take a closer look at high-profile cases like Gabby Petito and Lauren Dunne Astley to illustrate how coercive control plays out in real life and the devastating consequences it can have. Laura also sheds light on how the media often memorializes male perpetrators while subtly placing blame on victims, a pattern that continues to fuel dangerous misconceptions. Beyond analyzing the problem, Laura shares the incredible work she's doing to have coercive control legally recognized as a form of domestic abuse. She explains why advocacy, education, and legal reform are essential to protecting victims and shifting the way society understands domestic violence. This is an eye-opening conversation, and one I hope will help others recognize coercive control for what it is. Our 500th episode! Thanks for coming with us on this incredible journey! We've platformed victims, changed laws, supported survivors, educated law enforcement and taken on the criminal justice system. But without our loyal listeners we could not have done any of that vital work. On today's show Jim weighs in on Josiah Hilderbrand's case. He shares his view as a former prosecutor on what he thinks the Yakima district attorney should and shouldn't have done. Lisa asks Laura what she makes of the recent rash of random attacks on women on the streets of Manhattan, are these copycat crimes or is there a serial offender committing these violent acts? Finally the team give their recommendation on what they are watching. We conclude our interview with Liz Hilderbrand. She explains trying to come to terms not only with her son Josiah's murder but with the actions of the justice system to erase her son's existence from a multiple homicide. Liz recalls going to the sentencing of James and Donovan Cloud, seeing the faces of the men who took Josiah's life, and the cavalier almost jocular attitude of the courtroom. As Laura says, Josiah's case was used as a bargaining chip for prosecutors to secure a plea deal for one of the offenders. Liz also describes her shocking treatment post sentencing by the district attorney's office and their public complaint department representative who told her “she was not a victim”. Liz was denied the right to read her victim impact statement to the judge, but we are giving her the chance to read it today. Liz continues to fight to bring Josiah's case to trial. We continue our interview with Liz Hilderbrand who tells us what it was like waiting fourteen agonizing months to finally find her son Josiah. His remains were found off the side of a highway in rural eastern Washington state after he was murdered on his way to a concert. Liz describes the excruciating moment of seeing what was left of her child. She also talks about all the evidence that links Josiah's murder to the offenders who murdered five other people in White Swan, a remote area on the Yakama Indian Reservation and her frustration that authorities did not include Josiah in their case against the suspects James and Donovan Cloud. #HisNameWasJosiahHilderbrand #JusticeforJosiahWhat people can do to help:Follow Liz's blog lizhilderbrand.comFollow Liz on socials: @rememberthebirdsContact Liz through email: lizhilderbrand.writer@gmail.com Send an email to Yakima County District Attorney Joe Brusic encouraging him to pursue charges in Josiah's case: Joseph.Brusic@co.yakima.wa.usContact WA State Attorney General Bob Ferguson's office and let them know that you are aware of Josiah's case and are waiting for charges to be brought. 25-year-old Josiah Hilderbrand had dreams of becoming a firefighter in the Northern California county where he lived. He loved animals and helping all kinds of people. Most of all, he loved his mom Liz. For his whole life it had just been the two of them. Like his mom, Josiah was a huge fan of the Grateful Dead and was excited to go to Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington State to see Dead & Company. On Friday June 7th, 2019, Josiah and a friend were traveling along Highway 97 on their way to see the concert when they stopped to help two people stranded on the side of the road. What happened next is every parent's worst nightmare and would plunge Liz Hilderbrand into an abyss of pain as she desperately tried to find out what became of her son. Liz joins Laura and Lisa to tell Josiah's story and describe her fight to bring his killers to justice. We continue discussing the killings of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies, a young Australian couple who were allegedly murdered by a New South Wales police officer on February 19, 2024. As we review the timeline, Laura and Jim analyze the significance of the pre and post offence behavior of the alleged offender which include him making suspicious purchases, removing and moving the remains of Jesse and Luke, and possibly involving his friends and colleagues in his attempt to cover up the crime before turning himself into the authorities. #realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis #coercivecontrol #stalking #domesticabuseFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS
26-year-old Jesse Baird, a vivacious Australian former television reporter, and 29-year-old Luke Davies, a beloved flight attendant for the Australian airline Qantas, were murdered in cold blood the morning of Monday 19th February. Their bodies were discovered by police in surfboard bags, covered with debris, on a remote property 126 miles south of Sydney on Tuesday 27th February. Jesse and Luke had been dating for just a few months and were full of excitement for the future when they were allegedly shot dead by a member of the New South Wales police force, Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon. Family and friends allege that he was stalking Jesse prior to the murder. Laura tells us about this case which has exposed serious concerns in the police media handling of the case, particularly regarding the outdated label “crime of passion” being used. Jim and Laura analyze the timeline and the significant movements and behavior of the alleged offender, who is now in custody. #realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis #coercivecontrol #stalking #domesticabuseFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS
We continue our conversation with Antonia Unaqsiq Commack a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples advocate in Alaska. Antonia is Inupiaq from the Native Village of Shungnak and is a survivor herself of domestic abuse. Antonia is challenging the open letter to the community that the Kotzebue Chief of Police wrote addressing the suspicious deaths of Jennifer Kirk and Sue Sue Norton in Kotzebue, Alaska. The Chief's letter tries to assure the public that the investigation into these cases has been thorough, but Antonia points out all the holes in that story. Laura fills us in on the background of the horrific domestic violence these women suffered at the hands of their intimate partners before their deaths. Who is killing the indigenous women of Alaska? Spoiler alert, it is not that hard to figure out if proper investigations had been done, yet time and time again, these victims' deaths are ignored, suspects are not questioned, evidence is not collected, autopsy reports are glossed over, known repeat offenders are not prosecuted, and on the rare occasions when they are prosecuted, judges are letting them go with less than a slap on the wrist. Joining us to discuss two such cases is victims' advocate Antonia Unaqsiq Commack of Missing and Murdered In Alaska, a group that often focuses on violence against Native Alaskans. Antonia is Inupiaq from the Native Village of Shungnak. Antonia herself has had two close friends murdered by their intimate partners and since 2017 has devoted herself to shouting loudly to make the public aware of the injustices going on in her community. Antonia takes us through the deaths of two women in Kotzebue, Alaska - Jennifer Kirk and Sue Sue Norton -- who died under extremely suspicious circumstances and who need to get much more attention from those in power to deliver justice. Their stories are just the tip of the iceberg. We conclude our coverage of “American Nightmare” the story of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn and the secondary trauma they suffered at the hands of law enforcement, the media and the general public at large who refused to believe their story about what happened to them when they were attacked by a sadistic and dangerous offender Matthew Muller. Why did the “Gone Girl” narrative – that Denise staged her own kidnapping -- take hold of everyone's imaginations at the exclusion of the truth and the evidence? Jim and Laura take us through what law enforcement should have done to investigate this case as well as analyze Muller's behavior in planning and executing his crimes. #realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis #rapist #coercivecontrol #stalker #survivorFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS
"Did you scream?" is the question Detective Mustard asked Denise Huskins when she described her kidnapping and repeated rapes at the hands of Matthew Muller, the man who terrorized her for two days in his remote cabin in the Lake Tahoe area. Laura and Jim tear apart the victim blaming at the heart of this question and the deeply held bias this detective seemed to have against women who have suffered sexual abuse. Join us as we continue discussing "American Nightmare" the three part docu-series now streaming on Netflix which gives Denise and her now husband Aaron Quinn the chance to tell their side of this terrifying story. #realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis #rapist #coercivecontrol #stalker #survivorFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS
You know them from the current #1 Netflix documentary “American Nightmare” about their harrowing experience after a stranger invaded their home and upended their lives, but before the show, there was their book “Victim F”. Real Crime Profile was one of the first podcasts to interview Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn. They sat down with us in 2021 to go over the many details of what they experienced. Much of their story did not make it into the Netflix series, so join us now for this encore episode to hear what they shared with us. "American Nightmare" streaming now, has been the #1 show on Netflix for the past few weeks. It is a story the Real Crime Profile team knows well. We interviewed Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn in June 2021 and they shared their incredible and harrowing story of how a predatory serial stalker and rapist upended their world and how they fought back for justice and to reclaim their lives. In 2015, the couple were awakened in the middle of the night by lasers and a man wearing all black with a gun. Aaron and Denise were then bound and drugged. Denise was kidnapped, placed in the trunk of a car and driven to an isolated location. There she was raped twice and terrorized. The kidnapper demanded ransom from a traumatized Aaron who decided to go to the police. What happened next you will not believe. The Real Crime Profile team reviews "American Nightmare" and discusses how well it captures Denise and Aaron's story as well as how it fits as a companion to their book “Victim F”.Listen to our previous series where we interview Denise and Aaron, Detective Misty Carausu and Nicki Weisensee Egan:https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/victim-f-part-1-denise-huskins-aaron-quinn-interview/id1081244497?i=1000527404551#realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis #rapist #coercivecontrol #stalker #survivorFollow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS
We continue our discussion about Natalia Grace, her life as far as we know it and the case built against her by her adoptive parents Michael and Kristine Barnett who claimed Natalia was a manipulative, dangerous, sociopath posing as a child while actually being a full grown adult. Sounds like something out of a bad Hollywood movie, but it is a narrative that has followed Natalia throughout her trauma filled life and has had serious consequences. Laura and Jim analyze Natalia's behavior as well as the actions and statements of the people around her. Who is telling the truth? Who is abusing and coercively controlling who? Who do you believe? From the very start of her life, Natalia Grace has been passed around like a human football and exploited. From the moment of her birth in Ukraine when doctors encouraged her mother Anna Volodymyrivna Gava to give her baby up due to her diagnosis of dwarfism, Natalia has been denied a stable, loving home and instead been placed with people who had no business caring for her and had no capacity for loving her. Today we examine Natalia's complex and convoluted case, made only more confusing by the docu-series “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace”. We examine the many narrators in this story including Michael Barnett who along with his wife Kristine adopted Natalia, appeared to abuse her both physically and mentally, coercively controlled her and then bizarrely sought to prove Natalia was not a child, but an adult woman pretending to be a child, legally "re-aging" her. Jim and Laura analyze the evidence and try to discern who is telling the truth and what actually happened. Can there be any excuse for traumatizing and abandoning a dependent person with a severe disability (be they a child or an adult) to fend for themselves with no means of care? We continue our discussion of Amanda Knox' upcoming retrial in Italy for slander against her former boss, Le Chic Bar owner Patrick Lumumba. When the police interrogated Amanda they told her to sign two police written statements, just hours apart. Amanda has always maintained she was not allowed an interpreter or to speak to a lawyer during that interrogation and that she was pressured to place Patrick Lumumba at the scene of the crime. There was a third statement Amanda wrote on her own, shortly after signing the previous two police-written statements, trying to explain her state of mind and her knowledge of the facts of the night Meredith was murdered. In this episode you will hear Amanda reading this third statement and Jim & Laura's illuminating analyses of it. Amanda Knox is headed back to stand trial again in Italy. But this time not for the murder of her former college roommate Meredith Kercher, who she was wrongfully convicted of killing in 2009 and later acquitted in 2015. Now, Knox is facing a re-trial for slander against Patrick Lumumba, a local bar owner in Perugia who she worked for at the time of the murder. Italian police say Knox named him as the prime suspect back when she was in police custody in 2007. Knox has always claimed it was the police themselves who mentioned Lumumba as involved in the murder and it was they who deliberately misinterpreted her text messages with him. Join us as we unravel this complicated aspect of the investigation and explain why Amanda is glad to be going back to Italy to finally clear her name. You can listen to Amanda explain the twists and turns of this new development on her excellent podcast "Labyrinths" Episode 79:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/labyrinths-getting-lost-with-amanda-knox/id1494368441?i=1000638980892#realcrimeprofile #TrueCrime #podcast #ExpertAnalysis #FBI #NewScotlandYard #CriminalBehavior #BehaviorAnalysis Follow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE - CALL 988If you're thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States.988 is now active across the United States. Happy 2024. In our first episode of the year, we focus on the 23 year old Italian female victim who has come forward with allegations of rape and domestic abuse against convicted murderer Rudy Guede. Laura gives us an update on how this young woman has described her relationship with Guede and the red flag behavior that he displayed. Does the possibility that the man who raped and murdered Meredith Kercher, who was released before he completed his sentence, and who has never taken responsibility for his crime, now may have harmed another woman surprise us? In 2007, British college student Meredith Kercher was raped and brutally murdered (stabbed 47 times) by Rudy Guede in Perugia, Italy where she was studying on an exchange program. Though this case made international headlines, very few people recognize the name of the victim and even fewer know the name of her killer. Rudy Guede who received a shockingly reduced sentence for this horrific crime, was allowed lenient furloughs during his incarceration, and was paroled three years ago after only serving thirteen years. Recently there are new allegations of rape and assault against him made by his 23 year old girlfriend. While the case is under investigation, Guede is fettered only by a restraining order and not under house arrest nor any other monitoring despite his violent history. Why has he time after time been given so many indulgences? While many may not recall Meredith Kercher's name nor Rudy Guede's there is one name everyone recognizes for all the wrong reasons in connection with this case and that name is Amanda Knox. Amanda, who happened to be one of Meredith's roommates at the time of her death, was wrongfully convicted of her killing. Though eventually exonerated after serving four years in an Italian prison, the white hot spotlight of attention both from the Italian police, the media and the public have followed Amanda since her release. Amanda has always worried that Guede (who maintains he is innocent) would hurt another woman once he finished out his sentence. Has her prediction come true? Join us for this discussion. You can also go back and listen to our previous episodes in 2016 which intensely analyzed Meredith's murder and the botched investigation by Italian authorities. We continue our discussion of Meredith Kercher's rape & murder by Rudy Guede, his recent parole and subsequent new allegations of rape and assault against him by an ex partner. Laura and Jim zero in on the errors, omissions and outright fabrications by Italian authorities who handled Meredith's case so badly, allowing Guede to get a fast-tracked trial and a reduced sentence (from 30 years to 16 years which was further whittled down to 13 years for good behavior). Laura updates us on other cases of violence against women in Italy including the horrific & brutal murder of Giulia Cecchettin by Filippo Turetta which sparked an Italian reckoning over femicide. You can hear Laura's interview with Amanda Knox on the Crime Analyst episode below:https://www.crime-analyst.com/35-the-crime-analyst-ep-35/https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/labyrinths-getting-lost-with-amanda-knox/id1494368441?i=1000501879723Follow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/>>>>>>>>> SUPPORT OUR OTHER SHOWS

Reeva Steenkamp, a 29 year old South African paralegal who graduated top of her class and also had a successful career as a model, was murdered in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013, shot multiple times by her then partner Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius, who at the time was an internationally known professional sprinter and national hero, claimed it was an accident, that he thought he had been defending himself against an intruder breaking into his home. Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide with a term of only five years in prison and a concurrent three-year suspended prison sentence for a separate reckless endangerment conviction. That verdict was later overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa who convicted him of murder and increased Pistorius' prison term to 13 years and five months on appeal by the state. Now, to the shock and dismay of Reeva's family and loved ones, after only serving half of his sentence, Oscar Pistorius is going to be released on parole with a number of conditions. We revisit this case (which we covered in depth back in June 2016) and the complex circumstances surrounding Pistorius sentencing, Pistorius' contradicting statements as well as new details about what may have happened that terrible night.
