Thoughtfully designed products can promote efficacy, success, and joy – but that's only one side of the coin. Bad design is everywhere, and poorly designed products cause more than mere discomfort; they can anger, sadden, exclude, and even kill the people who use them. From a bad interface that ended a young cancer patient's life to product designs that exclude minority groups, Jonathan Shariat has seen his fair share of dangerous designs during his decade-long career as a senior designer – a trend he's determined to rectify. Jonathan is an international speaker, former podcast host, design leader at Google, and author of Tragic Design: The Impact of Bad Product Design. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off the Dom Giordano Program by playing back some clips from his show on September 11th, 2001, calling attention to the somber anniversary of the nation's largest terrorist attack. Then, Dom turns to topics of the day, playing back clips from the Perkiomen Valley School District, which made news after board members proposed a policy requiring students to use bathrooms designated for their gender at birth. After that, Dom gives updates on Danelo Cavalcante, the escapee in Chester County, noting that a press conference will take place today at 2PM ET with officials giving updates. This leads Dom to ask why Cavalcante didn't receive the death penalty, something that Governor Josh Shapiro ran on and then flipped once elected. Then, Dom welcomes in Col. Allen B. West, former U.S. Congressman, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to reflect on 9/11 and tell us what he's been up to recently. First, West tells us that he's a fan of the Falcons and was happy to see them win when asked if he's a Cowboys fan, a good answer for Philadelphia listeners. Then, Col. West takes us back to the fateful day, telling that he was still with the Marines when the events unfolded, explaining what he felt as an active service member knowing what's to come after the tragedy. After that, Dom asks for the Colonel's thoughts on President Biden's decision to remember the day in Alaska, making him the first ever U.S. President to not commemorate the event at one of the tragedy's locations. Quillette associate editor Iona Italia interviews journalist John Colapinto, whose book "As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl" chronicles the life of David Reimer, a Canadian man who was born as Bruce Reimer and subjected to a controversial and ultimately unsuccessful gender-reassignment following a botched circumcision. The book delves into the psychological, ethical, and medical complexities of David's life, from the surgical accident and subsequent interventions to his struggle with his gender identity. It also serves as a critique of Dr. John Money's theories on gender plasticity and the ethics of imposing a gender identity on a child unable to provide informed consent. Colapinto interviews various people involved in the case, including David Reimer himself, his family, and professionals who later questioned Money's work. The book paints a detailed picture of the Reimer family's ordeal, David's internal struggles, and the professional controversies that the case stirred up. Learn more about your ad choices. The University of Idaho has once again postponed the demolition of the Moscow residence where four students tragically lost their lives in November. This delay has become indefinite due to the recent postponement of the murder suspect Bryan Kohberger's trial. University officials have decided to maintain their earlier decision to defer the demolition of the off-campus property on King Road. The university, which took ownership of the house earlier this year, is committed to withholding demolition activities until at least mid-December. The institution is currently without a specific demolition date and lacks established plans for the property's future. The university spokesperson emphasized their commitment to balancing students' education with respecting the memories of the victims. Bryan Kohberger, the murder suspect, faces serious charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, and the university faced opposition from some victims' families who expressed concerns about destroying the property before Kohberger's trial concluded. In a deeply tragic turn of events, two parents and their two children were found dead in their home in Allen, Texas, in what appears to be a murder-suicide. This incident occurred just a few weeks after the family's 4-year-old daughter, Lyian Sherwani, tragically drowned in a swimming pool. Allen Police were called to the residence after a neighbor, who was locked out of the house for two hours, was unable to reach anyone inside and became concerned for their welfare. The Islamic Association of Allen announced in a newsletter that a prayer vigil would be held for the Sherwani family, identified as Farman Sherwani, his wife Layla Sherwani, and their sons Shaheen, 12, and Mateen, 2. The newsletter expressed deep sadness, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of 4 family members.” A member of the association also told NBC News, “Waking up to the news of losing a four-member family all of a sudden is not something anyone can be prepared for.” Allen Police Sgt. Jonathan Maness confirmed to PEOPLE that the drowning of the girl is believed to be a factor in the incident, but was unable to confirm the shooter at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Neighbors were shocked and saddened by the news. Jacqueline Soto, a neighbor, told Fox 4 News that the family member who couldn't gain access to the home was a grandmother. "She was just really distraught," said Soto. Another neighbor told NBC News, "It was just really sad and really hard. I think all of us kind of just felt for the family as we were watching them mourn in the front yard.” The tragic drowning of Lyian Sherwani just three weeks prior to this incident has left the community reeling. The loss of a child is incredibly painful, and it is believed to have played a role in the subsequent tragedy that befell the Sherwani family. This series of events underscores the importance of mental health support for those grieving the loss of a loved one. It is crucial that individuals experiencing such trauma receive adequate support to help them navigate through their grief and pain. As the investigation continues, the community is coming together to support one another and remember the Sherwani family. The Islamic Association of Allen, along with friends, neighbors, and the wider community, are mourning the loss of this family and seeking to understand how such a tragedy could occur. In conclusion, the tragic deaths of the Sherwani family highlight the importance of providing support to those experiencing grief and trauma. It is a stark reminder that we must come together as a community to support one another in times of need. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it is hoped that it will provide some answers to the many questions surrounding this deeply sad and unfortunate series of events. Delve into a thought-provoking conversation that confronts the unsettling resurgence of antisemitism, tracing its historical roots and contemporary manifestations. A recent report from the Anti-Defamation League documents 3,700 instances of antisemitic harassment, vandalism, and assault— including the heart-wrenching attack at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue in 2018, a grim reminder of the deadliest assault on the Jewish community in the United States — and paints a troubling broader picture of modern antisemitism around the world. Sitting down with Ian Bremmer on the GZERO World Podcast is Noa Tishby, an Israeli actress, writer, and activist who previously held the role of Israel's Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism. She is no stranger to controversy, having taken a principled stand against her nation's controversial judicial reform agenda. She shares her unique perspective about the history and causes of antisemitism and how it connects to Israel's right to exist and its identity. The discussion turns to the contentious boundary between critiquing Israeli policies and crossing into antisemitism, and also addresses a crucial question—when does the spectrum of extremist politics morph into hate?

After our year-long investigation, in this final episode we revisit the murder/suicide theory. That misstep set the whole investigation off on the wrong foot, and might have derailed any chance of finding out who killed the Shermans. To the Sherman's children, it's one of the biggest police screw-ups in recent history – a botched job that muddled the truth and stained the family. But the theory hangs in the air because its adherents, especially Kerry Winter, aren't budging. In the end, what is the Shermans' legacy? And what was all that money really for? After a notorious 2018 interview on CBC television, Kerry Winter became a familiar figure in the tale of the Shermans' deaths. “The Cousin Did It” wasn't just a snappy headline on the cover of The National Enquirer, it also became a favourite theory. Yet Kerry is not a suspect. And all these years later the humiliation, anger, and deep sadness Kerry feels towards his cousin Barry are still right on the surface. How did such a good thing go so bad, and why is Kerry so certain Barry killed Honey then killed himself? Was a man capable of “ripping off little orphans” also capable of killing his own wife? And himself?
