Michael Hutchence's sudden death in 1997 at the age of 37 left a hole in the hearts of Australians and the world. His band, INXS, cut their teeth on the lawless pub circuit down under. Three shows a night, from sunrise to sunset. Hundreds of shows a year. The bond that they formed was life-changing for them all, but especially for Michael, whose greatest fear was being alone. And then Michael Hutchence had his life changed for a second time. He was sucker punched by a taxi driver in the street. That attack left him unable to smell or taste. It altered his moods. And it may have had something to do with the final day of his life. This episode contains themes that may be disturbing to some listeners, including suicide. Send a textWhat looks glamorous on the outside often hides complicated truths underneath. In this episode, the hosts unpack the fascination with the Kennedy family, especially the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and why their story still resonates today. Beyond celebrity intrigue, the conversation explores deeper themes like identity, pressure, media scrutiny, and the cost of living in the public eye.Listeners are reminded that fame does not equal perfection. Even people who appear to “have it all” are navigating insecurity, relationship struggles, grief, and expectations. The episode also highlights the importance of trusting your instincts, protecting your personal boundaries, and holding people accountable in relationships. A powerful takeaway is that public perception rarely reflects private reality, and comparison can distort how we see our own lives. The story of a young Girl Scout overcoming rejection to break cookie-selling records reinforces another key message: find your tribe. Surrounding yourself with supportive people can unlock confidence, purpose, and success.Overall, this episode blends pop culture, personal reflection, and life lessons about resilience, authenticity, and choosing the right people to walk alongside you.Pim's Cookie Store: https://digitalcookie.girlscouts.org/scout/pim391562Pim's TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@lifeofapimEpisode Highlights:(0:00) Intro(0:56) Florida trip and life updates(3:22) Trending stories and headlines discussion(6:10) Epstein case and personal experiences(12:42) Kennedy fascination and cultural impact(14:40) Carolyn and JFK Jr. relationship beginnings(22:41) Marriage, media pressure, and public scrutiny(27:14) Relationship struggles and tragic flight(29:20) Is there a Kennedy curse?(33:15) Grit person of the week story(36:00) OutroSupport the showFollow us: Web: https://girlsgonegritty.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/girlsgonegritty/ More ways to find us: https://linktr.ee/girlsgonegritty
In this episode, psychotherapist John Tsilimparis joins me to explore a more compassionate approach to grief, inspired by his book The Magic in the Tragic. We discuss how our “be strong and move on” culture often discourages us from truly honoring loss — and why grief, when faced rather than avoided, can build emotional resilience.John shares his personal story of loss, the myth of closure, the concept of “forbidden suffering,” and practical tools for working with anxiety and worry. At its core, this conversation is about learning to stay with pain, transform it, and discover unexpected meaning — even in our darkest days.In this episode, John discusses:How Our Culture Avoids DeathHis Origin Story and LossForbidden Suffering ExplainedThe Purpose of Grief ResilienceAnxiety Trends and ScreensThe Dangers of Avoiding PainInspiration Exposure PracticeMusic and HopeNobility of SufferingHonoring SufferingGuilt and JoyRituals and ReverenceWrite a Sympathy LetterA 'Reducing Worry' PracticeThree Anxiety PillarsAesthetic Mindset ToolsMyth of ClosureLiving With GriefResilience and MeaningTherapy Work and ResourcesVisit John's website________BECOME YOUR OWN SHAMAN Introductory Online Course For more information about Wendy's new visionary fiction book, Raven's Daughter, or to purchase a copy, visit Three Worlds PressVisit Wendy's website to learn more about the the Harmonic Egg® Lucid Cafe episodes by topic Listen to Lucid Cafe on YouTube ★ Support this podcast ★

The Minnesota Legislature's 2026 session started with reflection about the deadly shootings that killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. Another lawmaker, state DFL Sen. John Hoffman, and his wife, Yvette, survived a connected shooting at their home. Hoffman was honored in the Senate chamber. It was the first time the Legislature had been in order since months of traumatic and tragic events left them and the state grieving and challenged to take action. The session will go fast, with just about three months to squeeze everything in. There will be debates about fraud, immigration, guns, taxes, work requirements for benefit recipients, social media guardrails, data center regulations — just to name a few. Another thing worth keeping an eye on this year: The tone lawmakers take with each other. We'll have a recap of the first week of session and committee hearings. We'll also hear from Colin Hortman, the son of Melissa and Mark Hortman, about grief and finding ways to honor his parents.

GOING BALLISTIC ATF's ‘Engaged in the Business' Rule Mirrors Canada's Firearms Confiscation Approach (Shooting Wire Analysis) The article argues that the ATF's Final Rule on the Definition of “Engaged in the Business” Selling Firearms and Ammunition, effective May 20, 2024, effectively enables a backdoor gun grab in the US similar to Canada's 2020 Order in Council banning over 1,500 firearms models. It claims the rule reclassifies private sales and occasional transfers as requiring a Federal Firearms License (FFL), mirroring Canada's prohibition-then-buyback strategy. The piece warns this erodes Second Amendment rights by criminalizing common firearm transactions without due process. Utah HB 431: GOP Rep. Cheryl Acton Pushes to Ban Open Carry on College Campuses (Savage) Utah Republican Representative Cheryl Acton has introduced House Bill 431 to prohibit the open carry of firearms on the campuses of public colleges and universities in the state. The bill targets loaded firearms visible to others, aiming to enhance campus safety amid concerns over gun violence. It applies specifically to institutions under the Utah Board of Higher Education. Tumbler Ridge Shooting Highlights Gun Control Arguments (Bearing Arms Analysis) (Savage) The article analyzes a shooting incident in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, where a man used a restricted firearm to kill two people before being stopped by an armed civilian. It critiques how gun control advocates exploit such tragedies to push for stricter laws despite existing severe restrictions on firearms in Canada. The piece argues that the incident demonstrates the consistent pattern of gun control arguments relying on emotional appeals rather than evidence of effectiveness. Bearing Arms: Reason Transgender Gun Ban Proposal Won't Advance (Savage) The article discusses a proposed federal rule by the Biden administration to prohibit firearm purchases by individuals with gender transition-related medical diagnoses, such as gender dysphoria. It argues the rule faces significant legal and political hurdles, including likely injunctions from courts that have blocked similar ATF actions. The author asserts it lacks momentum and is destined to fail. Shooting News Weekly Critique of Evidence-Free Claims on Guns and Public Safety Conflict (Savage) The article criticizes a purported expert's assertion of a conflict between concealed carry and public safety, labeling it as evidence-free hackery. It argues that such claims lack empirical support and misrepresent data on concealed carry impacts. The piece defends concealed carry by highlighting the absence of credible evidence linking it to increased public safety risks. New Mexico House Bill 86 (HB 86) Sweeping Gun Control Measure Scheduled for Hearing (Savage) New Mexico's House Bill 86 proposes comprehensive gun control measures including bans on assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and ghost guns, along with red flag laws and restrictions on open carry. The bill is set for a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on February 17, 2026. Sponsored by Rep. Rehm, it aims to address gun violence through multiple regulatory changes. REVIEWS Review: Jaqin Ta'Sox from Connecticut From; Jaqin Ta'Sox: Review I still think y'all are gay. But, regarding ep 647. I agree with Jerambay, 99%. I agree with Shawn as far as the narrative being twisted, disagree with most of his thoughts on the agents. Everyone who can legally carry should be able carry everywhere, full stop. The narrative of him carrying a 320 with spare mags to “cause chaos” is BS. The difference in Rittenhouse and the Minisota Nut, is in their choices. Rittenhouse didn't look for danger, danger found him, he ran away, then defended himself. Minisota nut, put himself in the middle of a wave of insanity. Had he gave the agents a buffer, he could've yelled and cursed all he wanted. Tragic, but justified. Review: From Jeff E Comment only. Liberals are the biggest fucking idiots. They try to tell us how Trump is a dick tator, while they do everything in their power to dismantle the Constitution, specifically 2A. The very things that were setup to limit government, not to limit us. Sadly, they don't teach this in school anymore, (about Constitution limiting government). While like in Illinois they call our politicians “lawmakers”, when they should be called servants. In Nevada, police say a Utah mother shot her young daughter inside a Las Vegas hotel room before killing herself during a trip for a cheer competition. In New York, investigators now believe a Brooklyn mother of four’s dismembered remains found in a trash compactor were the result of a tragic accident rather than a killing. In Maryland, a former police chief will spend the rest of his life in prison after prosecutors say he spent nearly a decade setting revenge fires against people he believed wronged him. It was a calm fall night in Vermont when something suddenly felt off. A neighbor heard an engine roar through the quiet, then take off again. Not long after, sirens filled the air.By morning, the state was trying to understand how five teenagers had lost their lives, and how one man, Steven Bourgoin, became the center of a tragedy that would haunt Vermont for years. What happened on the highway was only part of the story. The harder question was what led up to it, and whether it could have been stopped. How to support:For extra perks including exclusive content, early release, and ad-free episodes -Go to - PatreonHow to connect:WebsiteInstagramFacebookTwitterTheme and Closing Track:Original compositions created for The Minds of MadnessPlease check out our sponsors and help support the podcast:Shopify - Sign up for a one-dollar-per-month trial period at shopify.com/madnessQuince - Upgrade your wardrobe with pieces made to last with Quince.
