Brueski explores the political pressures Gascón faces, the impact of new abuse allegations by former Menudo band member Roy Rosselló, and how a Netflix series has reignited public sympathy. Richard Allen Davis is an ex-con out on parole after serving 8 years of a 16-year sentence for kidnapping. Paroled to a halfway house for convicts with alcohol and drug addiction, he gets an overnight pass and drives his ford pinto 60 miles up the California coast to Petaluma.  Davis goes to a park, smokes a joint and drinks beer, 2 blocks from the home of 12-year-old Polly Klaas, having a slumber party with two friends. Davis sneaks into the home, grabs a knife from the kitchen, and goes to the room where the girls are setting up sleeping bags. He threatens the girls with the knife, ties 2 of them up, gags them, and kidnaps Polly Klaas. It takes the girls 20 minutes to free themselves and they run to Polly's mother, Eve Nichols. who calls the police. The search for Polly Klaas begins.  90-minutes after kidnapping Polly Klaas, Richard Allen Davis gets his pinto stuck in a ditch. The owner of the secluded property, Dana Jaffe, gets spooked and calls the police. Police talk to Davis, help get his car out of the ditch, and send him on his way. Two months after Polly's disappearance, Jaffe calls the police again after finding a sweatshirt, girls' clothing, and other items on her property. Jaffe says she thought it looked like a crime scene and tells officers about the stranger from 2 months earlier. The search for Polly Klaas has been international news for the last two months and Investigators quickly pull up their records from the incident and find the name, Richard Allen Davis, and ex-con with a long rap sheet who most recently served time in prison for kidnapping.    Joining Nancy Grace Today: Marc Klaas – Polly's father  Eddie Freyer – Lead FBI Agent in Polly Klaas Case Sam Dordulian - Sexual Assault Attorney, Former Los Angeles County Sex Crimes Prosecutor, Founder of Dordulian Law group, www.dlawgroup.com, Twitter: @DordulianLaw   Dr. Sara G West - Forensic Psychiatrist, Specializing in Sexually Deviant Behavior, Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine forensicpsychiatryMD.com John Woolfolk, Reporter, San Jose Mercury News  @JohnWoolfolk1   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In conversation with Mr Angus Thomas Human and sex trafficking is a grave violation of human rights, affecting millions of people worldwide. In 2016, approximately 25 million people experienced forced labour and sexual exploitation worldwide. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable: for every ten detected victims, about five were adult women and two were girls. According to Walk Free, there are an estimated 50 million people in modern slavery today, with 54% being women and girls and 1 in 4 children. On this episode,  Africa Rights Talk talks with Mr Angus Thomas, founder of Send Them Home, a campaign group helping to repatriate African women trafficked to the UAE for forced sex work, and the Hope Education Project, a pilot education programme in Ghana tackling human trafficking at its source. Angus delves into the harrowing realities of sex trafficking, citing his encounter with a young Nigerian woman trafficked to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for sexual exploitation as his inspiration for working in anti-trafficking.  Realising the vulnerability of these victims, he embarked on a journey to repatriate African women that had been tricked into travelling to the UAE and had become victims of human trafficking. Angus then highlights the challenges of working in the UAE, where the Government is often unwilling to investigate human trafficking networks and support victims. He notes that ensuring survivors' safety during repatriation requires a delicate diplomacy and extensive network of good Samaritans on the ground to help. In conclusion, Angus highlights the importance of education as a pivotal tool in preventing and combating human trafficking. By raising awareness about the tactics and schemes of human trafficking rings, Angus believes that it is possible to empower potential victims to recognise the signs and keep themselves safe. Angus Thomas is a human rights advocate and photographer who fights against exploitation and injustice. His activism in human trafficking began in 2019 when he encountered a young Nigerian woman trafficked to the UAE for sexual exploitation. This encounter fuelled his determination to combat trafficking networks, and saw Angus establish Send Them Home. His efforts garnered international media attention and prompted an extensive investigation into sex trafficking in Dubai. In 2021, Angus established the Hope Education Project in Ghana. This program focuses on human trafficking education and awareness amongst at risk schools and communities. The education programme aims to disrupt the flow of vulnerable women trafficked for exploitation, both internationally and within Ghana. Angus Thomas' unwavering commitment continues to make a difference to communities affected by exploitation and trafficking. Today's show covers two men who used guns in defense of either themselves or others, only to find themselves promptly and firmly punished by the legal system that routinely allows criminals to walk free. Ironically, both men are from New York City, though the events took place on opposite sides of the nation. The first of these is Vince Ricci, a retired New Yorker who now lives in Los Angeles. At around 7:30 PM on Saturday, Nov. 4, Ricci was about to enter his home carrying a cup of coffee, when he suddenly found himself the victim of an armed robbery by two men.  Ricci managed to get his own pistol into action and drove the two men off with gunfire.  This event was caught on video, which we'll share with you today. This week we learned that Los Angeles County, the issuing authority for gun permits in LA, has revoked Ricci's concealed carry permit. The second man we're discussing today is New Yorker John Rote. Rote was on a subway platform when he happened to see a woman being mugged by an apparently deranged homeless man.  Rote retrieved a revolver from his backpack and used it to drive the mugger away—including by imprudently firing two warning shots.Rote was immediately arrested, charged with multiple crimes, and is currently out on bail awaiting prosecution.  Not helpful to Rote's circumstances is that the woman victim has announced that she became most frightened when she realized Rote had brought a gun to her defense. So, with that introduction, let's dive into today's show. Learn the Self-Defense Law you NEED to BE HARD TO CONVICT, for FREE!Grab your own copy of our best-selling guide to self-defense law for FREE!"The Law of Self Defense: Principles" is our best-selling, plain-English explanation of your legal privilege to use even deadly force in defense of yourself, your family, and others--AND MAKE YOURSELF HARD TO CONVICT!DON'T WAIT until you're actually ATTACKED--by then it will be TOO LATE!---> Get your copy for FREE (except for S&H) by clicking HERE RIGHT NOW!Disclaimer - Content is for educational & entertainment purposes only, and does not constitute legal advice.Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Could a typical CVS pharmacy worker just decide on an impromptu afternoon walk to commit a chilling crime? Or was the act the bizarre impulse of an elusive group of Odinists? As layers unravel in the Delphi case, more questions than answers seem to emerge.    The podcast "Hidden Killers" hosted a profound discussion between Tony Brueski and former FBI Special Agent and contributor, Jennifer Coffindaffer, dissecting the peculiar details surrounding Richard Allen's implication in the murders. The heart of their conversation? A concerning lack of concrete evidence and a mysterious confession.    Brueski commenced by highlighting the difficulty in discerning the most plausible theory: "You try to look at both theories here and go, what are the odds that the CVS pharmacy worker is going out for a walk and he just randomly decides to kill two young girls on that walk?" Meanwhile, Coffindaffer echoes similar sentiments, emphasizing her unease over the manner of Allen's arrest and subsequent treatment, particularly given the shaky grounds of the evidence.    According to Coffindaffer, one of the prosecution's primary ties to Allen is tool mark evidence, which connects a bullet to the crime scene. She raises concerns regarding the reliability of this method, noting, "tool mark evidence is a bit of a pseudoscience. It's not exact." The debate lies in whether the marks on the bullet can be precisely attributed to Allen's weapon, given the variable factors surrounding the bullet's extraction.    Yet, despite the insufficient evidence linking Allen to the crime scene, what is most confounding is his own confession to his wife and mother. Brueski queries, "Was that [confession] under duress? And, if you're going to believe that it was under duress, then you kind of got to go along with some of the Odinistic stuff, because that's how that was phrased." These statements, laden with ambiguity, form the crux of the case, as Coffindaffer asserts. The underlying question is whether Allen's confessions revealed previously unknown information about the crime or were mere exclamations borne out of exasperation.    The theory that Allen might have been under the influence of Odinistic guards when he made these confessions introduces an element of salaciousness to the narrative. Coffindaffer articulates the psychological toll that sudden imprisonment might take on an individual, especially someone accustomed to the freedoms of everyday life. "I would think that would also possibly elicit a false confession for somebody that's just gotten to the point of feeling mad," she suggests.    The incarceration conditions Allen faces are stringent. These extreme conditions have ignited debate over whether they might influence or force Allen into a false confession, potentially leading to further complications if the case goes to appeal.    With so many intertwined complexities and a paucity of clear-cut evidence, it's no wonder Coffindaffer admits to being "50%... it could be him and 50%... it couldn't be him." There seems to be a consensus between her and Brueski that the prosecution might find themselves in troubled waters should the case move to the appeal phase.    In conclusion, the Delphi case stands out as a compelling mosaic of theories, allegations, and intricate details that challenge conventional wisdom on criminal justice and evidence evaluation. As the case proceeds, one can't help but ponder: In our quest for justice, are we ignoring the glaring gaps or are we simply too eager to find a culprit?
