Three years ago, in episode 69, I told you the story of six-year-old Corey Micciolo, whose mother fought for months to save her son from his abusive father. Despite her pleas to New Jersey's Division of Child Protection and Permanency and the family court system, Christopher Gregor retained primary custody of Corey. On March 20, 2021, surveillance cameras in the gym at Christopher's apartment complex captured horrific footage of Christopher forcing Corey to run on a treadmill, causing him to fall repeatedly. Less than two weeks later, Corey died in the emergency room with a tear to his heart caused by blunt force trauma. Christopher Gregor's trial is currently taking place in Ocean County Court. As a military veteran or first responder, you need to be planning and implementing strategies to prepare for your transition into civilian life. In this Flashback Friday episode of the Transition Drill Podcast, recap Episode 42 with Jim Clemente is a retired FBI profiler internationally recognized as an expert in Child Sexual Victimization, Sexual Homicide, and Child Abduction. He's the basis of Jason Gideon's character on the TV show Criminal Minds, played by Mandy Patinkin. Jim grew up in New York City and went to law school, and eventually became a prosecutor in NYC. Wanting to do more to put criminals in jail, he diverted again and joined the FBI. Jim retired in 2009 as a Supervisory Special Agent after 22 years with the FBI; the last 12 years with the Critical Incident Response Group (which includes the FBI's criminal profilers) out of Quantico. On 9/11, Jim was teaching classes in Quantico. He drove home to NYC and helped with searching and body recovery at Ground Zero. As a result of his time at Ground Zero and the Pentagon, Jim developed Lymphoma and almost died. While he was recovering and still active with the FBI, Jim became a tech advisor on the TV show Criminal Minds. From starting as a tech advisor, after retiring from the FBI, Jim became the executive producer of the show. Additionally, in 2008 Jim and his brother Tim started XG Productions, a media production and management company. 26-year-old Jesse Baird, a vivacious Australian former television reporter, and 29-year-old Luke Davies, a beloved flight attendant for the Australian airline Qantas, were murdered in cold blood the morning of Monday 19th February. Their bodies were discovered by police in surfboard bags, covered with debris, on a remote property 126 miles south of Sydney on Tuesday 27th February. Jesse and Luke had been dating for just a few months and were full of excitement for the future when they were allegedly shot dead by a member of the New South Wales police force, Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon. Family and friends allege that he was stalking Jesse prior to the murder. We continue our conversation with Antonia Unaqsiq Commack a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples advocate in Alaska. Antonia is Inupiaq from the Native Village of Shungnak and is a survivor herself of domestic abuse. Antonia is challenging the open letter to the community that the Kotzebue Chief of Police wrote addressing the suspicious deaths of Jennifer Kirk and Sue Sue Norton in Kotzebue, Alaska. The Chief's letter tries to assure the public that the investigation into these cases has been thorough, but Antonia points out all the holes in that story. Laura fills us in on the background of the horrific domestic violence these women suffered at the hands of their intimate partners before their deaths. Who is killing the indigenous women of Alaska? From the very start of her life, Natalia Grace has been passed around like a human football and exploited. From the moment of her birth in Ukraine when doctors encouraged her mother Anna Volodymyrivna Gava to give her baby up due to her diagnosis of dwarfism, Natalia has been denied a stable, loving home and instead been placed with people who had no business caring for her and had no capacity for loving her. Today we examine Natalia's complex and convoluted case, made only more confusing by the docu-series “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace”. We examine the many narrators in this story including Michael Barnett who along with his wife Kristine adopted Natalia, appeared to abuse her both physically and mentally, coercively controlled her and then bizarrely sought to prove Natalia was not a child, but an adult woman pretending to be a child, legally "re-aging" her. We have a huge update on the killer just identified as responsible for at least two of the serial killings in the Colonial Parkway murders which occurred in the late 1980s in Virginia. We continue our discussion of Amanda Knox' upcoming retrial in Italy for slander against her former boss, Le Chic Bar owner Patrick Lumumba. When the police interrogated Amanda they told her to sign two police written statements, just hours apart. Amanda has always maintained she was not allowed an interpreter or to speak to a lawyer during that interrogation and that she was pressured to place Patrick Lumumba at the scene of the crime. Amanda Knox is headed back to stand trial again in Italy. But this time not for the murder of her former college roommate Meredith Kercher, who she was wrongfully convicted of killing in 2009 and later acquitted in 2015. In 2007, British college student Meredith Kercher was raped and brutally murdered (stabbed 47 times) by Rudy Guede in Perugia, Italy where she was studying on an exchange program. Though this case made international headlines, very few people recognize the name of the victim and even fewer know the name of her killer. Rudy Guede who received a shockingly reduced sentence for this horrific crime, was allowed lenient furloughs during his incarceration, and was paroled three years ago after only serving thirteen years. Recently there are new allegations of rape and assault against him made by his 23 year old girlfriend. While the case is under investigation, Guede is fettered only by a restraining order and not under house arrest nor any other monitoring despite his violent history. Why has he time after time been given so many indulgences?While many may not recall Meredith Kercher's name nor Rudy Guede's there is one name everyone recognizes for all the wrong reasons in connection with this case and that name is Amanda Knox. Amanda, who happened to be one of Meredith's roommates at the time of her death, was wrongfully convicted of her killing. Reeva Steenkamp, a 29 year old South African paralegal who graduated top of her class and also had a successful career as a model, was murdered in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013, shot multiple times by her then partner Oscar Pistorius. Pistorius, who at the time was an internationally known professional sprinter and national hero, claimed it was an accident, that he thought he had been defending himself against an intruder breaking into his home. Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide with a term of only five years in prison and a concurrent three-year suspended prison sentence for a separate reckless endangerment conviction. That verdict was later overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa who convicted him of murder and increased Pistorius' prison term to 13 years and five months on appeal by the state. Now, to the shock and dismay of Reeva's family and loved ones, after only serving half of his sentence, Oscar Pistorius is going to be released on parole with a number of conditions. After decades of ignoring thousands of child sexual abuse reports going on under their watch, the Boy Scouts of American finally had a reckoning in 2010 when a brave former scout came forward to file a lawsuit and testify. Kerry Lewis was only 11 years old when he was repeatedly sexually abused by an assistant scoutmaster named Timur Dykes. Even though Dykes had previously confessed to his superior, another scouting leader, to sexually abusing 17 boys in their troup, Dykes was allowed to continue with the organization and continue to abuse Kerry as well as others. “Making A Murderer” the Netflix documentary about the 2005 murder of 25 year old Teresa Halbach near Green Bay, Wisconsin and the prime suspect in her killing Steven Avery took the world by storm in 2015 launching many viewer theories and passionate camps as to what may have really happened to the young photographer and who was responsible for her horrific murder. Avery, who had been wrongfully convicted of a violent sexual assault in 1985 was exonerated when DNA evidence proved another man was the true offender, and released in 2003 after serving 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
