Podcast by Snark Squad
Our very occasional podcast returns with an episode we recorded last summer. Time is fake! Fortunately, our dear friends Sam & Jessica have accepted our invitation into DCEU purgatory and now there's no going back for them or us. But this movie was very popular & now you can find out if we agreed with last summer's general consensus. Last summer we invited our friends Rich Camillucci and Nick Jenkins back to talk about Black Widow. This is before any subsequent movies came out, so it's possible we've formed some new opinions since then, but that's for another episode! Hey we're alive! Who can even say where we've been. What really matters is that this annual podcast episode is a tradition we cherish, so here we are. Find us on Twitter: Nicole: twitter.com/sweeneysays Marines: twitter.com/mynameismarines twitter.com/snark_squad www.snarksquad.com
Things we love: book adaptations & pretending time has no meaning. We were not big fans of the grisha books (neither of us managed to read all 5 that this show is based on) but we wanted to talk about this show anyway, so we asked two of our good friends who *are* fans to come chat about it with us. Our pals Rich Camillucci and Nick Jenkins are back to talk about the MCU's expansion into television with WandaVision. PART 3 of 3 of our DCEU marathon! We have reached the end and are closing out this project with Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984. We had some disagreements over rankings but universal agreement that this was the most enjoyable batch of movies for the entire project. We had lots of feelings about big action set pieces, terrible wigs, and villains who maybe didn't get punched enough. PART 2 of our 3 part DCEU marathon! We decided to give Justice League its own episode mostly because we weren't entirely sure where else to put it, but it turns out to be a whole lot of nothing. In spite of being a whole lot of nothing, we had plenty to say about nonsensical character motivations, people who seem to be in different movies, and a deeply underwhelming villain. When we were making our way through the MCU the elephant in the room was always whether we were ever going to talk about the DC movies on the podcast. There was a brighter time when we loved ourselves more and we said "No ❤️" but that time has passed and now here we are. We asked two of our friends to join us on this 3-part journey, and for some reason they agreed? In this first episode we are discussing Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman. In ~*the before*~ we might have been a bit more hesitant to choose a ten year old book trilogy with no known adaptations in the works, but guess what time means nothing now! This was our Discord book club pick back in May, so this episode is a long time in the making. Our friend Chelsea returns to the podcast to help us discuss Karou and chimera and angels and Laini Taylor's writing. In a rare move: we are actually returning to a show for the second season! Less surprising, of course, that it's *this* show, an adaptation of a beloved book series that we also dedicated three whole podcast episodes to. Join us as we get excited about Lyra & Will finally being together, form the Ruth Wilson stan club, and lament the presence of all other adults. In search of cheap serotonin in these dark times, we watched the Netflix movie Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown. In this episode, we are joined by Lainey Kress to discuss season one of Motherland: Fort Salen, a Freeform show that asks what if the Salem Witches became the US Army. We all pretty much enjoyed that bonkers premise, though we also have a lot of questions, a short wish-list for season two, and strong opinions on the astrological signs of fictional characters.
This week we are joined by Ceri Riley to discuss the Netflix original film The Half of It. This coming of age dramedy was a combination of a number of story elements that felt pretty calibrated for us to love it and we loved talking about it almost as much as the movie itself. This episode was recorded about a month ago and our decision to re-read The Hunger Games was made well before we had any notion of being quarantined. We decided to do a big group re-read of The Hunger Games on our Discord server in anticipation of the upcoming release of the prequel novel. We invited our friend Sam (@democracydiva) back on the show to talk to us about all things Hunger Games. We talked about our history with the series, PTSD, whether or not it holds up, the fashion, and so much more. In her first big part after Game of Thrones, our dear Khaleesi gets to unleash her full goofball energy in this Christmas movie where stars as a woman whose life is a bit of a mess. This is one of those movies that got on our radar because our corner of Twitter was buzzing about it as soon as the first trailer came out, and we were trash for it so we knew we'd have to do an episode on it.
