“Comedy and whimsy feel like the foundational principles of Doldrick's.” In Season 6, episode 12, we chat with Mike Dold and Rick George, two of the co-owners of Doldrick's Escape Room in Orlando, Fl. Their games are fan favorites amongst enthusiasts, in particular because of their blend of humor, whimsy, beautiful sets, and fun gameplay. Every single REA review of the Doldrick's escape rooms talks about how funny they were, with Theresa Wagner writing that Spoopy's Ghoulish Graveyard “had [her] laughing so hard [she] was in tears.” In fact, their newest game, Crazy Train: The Ballad Of Skeemin' Plotz inspired Lisa to write what David calls “her finest work” as an escape room reviewer. At this point, you're probably thinking, “these are crazy names for an escape room,” and I'd have to agree. My favorite is “Red Sled Redemption: Hollie Jolly Holiday Hubcap Repair”, which is an escape room title of epically insane proportions, but absolutely fits the Doldrick's brand of madcap comedy. Besides talking to us about their inspirations for their games, my favorite part is when Rick opens up about the difficulties of running an escape room while raising a young family. I really appreciated his willingness to be vulnerable, and I think it's valuable for other escape room owners to know that everyone has the same struggles. And with this non profit, the support for under served children does not stop at summer camp. Project Morry is committed to working to ensure young people from under-resourced communities graduate high school ready for college, careers and life. With the generosity of the bartenders at camp donating the amazing amount of tips collected at summer camp, we are donating $17,225 to Morry's Camp and another $1,525 is headed to the scholarship fund. Saw splices its way back into cinemas with SAW X, and we just couldn't pass up an opportunity to Spoop It Up with our old pal Jigsaw. And we do mean OLD. Did you know Tobin Bell is 81?? Damn! Anywho, helping us play this sadistic cinema game is friend of the show and Guest Host-in-residence, Tommy Nuggetz. We discuss the redemption story happening on-screen and the one happening behind-the-scenes (shout-out to director Kevin Greutert), as well as the film's gory traps, and its connections to the other Saw sequels. Plus, we also follow the clues from the movie and find a real life phone number for Jigsaw... that we call! Wanna know what happens when you dial it? Tune in to find out. Oh! And as a bonus, we get a special Spoopy Appearance from our friends, the Movie City Maniacs! Big thanks to those guys for helping us out this Spoopy Season. Kinda spooky, if you think about it. Spoopy season 2023 begins with a special KILLER KLOWNS BIRTHDAY BLOWOUT That's right, grab your popcorn blaster and settle into a cozy cotton candy cocoon, because the Killer Klowns from Outer Space turn 35... and Matt turns 40. Join us as we celebrate these dualing holidays, discuss the Chiodo Brothers' cult classic, its strange Seinfeld connections, and the disturbing implication behind that funny pie scene at the carnival. We also check out some birthday messages from our buddy Jeff (from Love of Cinema) as well as the Cryptkeeper himself, John Kassir! Kinda spooky, if you think about it.
