What if the anxiety, overthinking, people pleasing, emotional shutdown, hypervigilance, burnout, and relationship struggles you experience today… were never actually "you" to begin with? In this deeply personal and profoundly eye-opening solo episode, Darin Olien dives into the hidden nervous system programming formed between the ages of 0 and 8 that silently shapes our adult lives. Drawing from neuroscience, trauma research, attachment theory, epigenetics, somatic healing, and his own emotional breakthroughs, Darin explores how childhood experiences become subconscious operating systems that influence everything from relationships and stress responses to chronic disease and self-worth. This episode is a powerful roadmap toward healing. Darin breaks down the science behind trauma, the ACE study, nervous system dysregulation, emotional patterning, and neuroplasticity, while also sharing practical tools like somatic experiencing, expressive writing, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems to help listeners begin rewiring their emotional lives from the inside out. What You'll Learn How childhood experiences program the nervous system Why most adult emotional reactions are subconscious survival patterns The connection between trauma, stress hormones, and chronic disease How the nervous system stores emotional experiences in the body Why people pleasing, hypervigilance, burnout, and emotional shutdown develop The science behind neuroplasticity and rewiring the brain What the ACE Study revealed about childhood trauma and adult health How trauma impacts the amygdala, hippocampus, and stress-response systems Why emotional patterns are adaptations, not character flaws How epigenetics can pass trauma responses across generations The role of somatic experiencing in trauma healing Practical tools for emotional regulation and nervous system repair They are not your identity. They are not permanent. And through awareness, somatic healing, emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and conscious repetition, those deeply rooted patterns can be rewritten into something healthier, freer, and more aligned with who you truly are." Send us Fan MailWelcome to the Reel Turf Techs Podcast, Episode 166.Today we're talking with Dan Haxton, Equipment Manager at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Congressional is a private 36-hole facility with a deep history in tournament golf, and Dan leads a three-person shop supporting a fleet that's primarily John Deere equipment.Dan shares how he got his start in the industry at just 14 years old filling divots at Queenstown Harbor before moving from the crew side into the shop. After stepping into an assistant mechanic role, he became a head mechanic only eight months later and spent 12 years at South River before stops at Woodmont and eventually Congressional. They talk about the realities of managing people — the most rewarding and most stressful part of the job — along with favorite tools like calipers, preset torque wrenches, and a milling machine that's become invaluable for rotary blade work and repairs. Dan also discusses how forums, YouTube, and networking with other techs continue to help him learn and problem solve. The conversation gets into designing Congressional's new two-story maintenance facility, standardizing reel data and height-of-cut communication across the operation, and the club's growing use of robotics and automation, including Kress and Husqvarna mowers along with a Relox ball picker. It's a great conversation about growth in the industry, building systems that make life easier, and balancing tradition with new technology at one of the game's iconic clubs.Tweet us @ReelTurfTechs and @MTrentManningEmail us at ReelTurfTechs@gmail.comCheck out our YouTube Channel

In this episode, Mike breaks down ROPED's very first real-world robotic mowing demo and installation — and the reactions were exactly what you'd expect. The customer was excited. The team saw the vision. But one person wasn't buying in at all… the gas mechanic. Why are so many people resistant to battery-powered equipment and robotic mowing? Is it fear of change? Fear of losing relevance? Or are contractors simply not adapting fast enough to where the industry is headed? Mike dives deep into: Why robotic mowing and battery equipment are disrupting the industry The mindset shift contractors NEED to make Why some mechanics and operators push back against new technology ROPED's first Kress install using the KR174 How surprisingly simple the setup and mapping process was What customers are really looking for in 2026 Why robotics aren't replacing landscapers — they're changing the role of landscapers This episode is a raw, honest look at the future of the green industry and what happens when innovation collides with tradition. If you're curious about robotic mowing, battery-powered equipment, or where the landscaping industry is heading next, this one's for you.

If pain is a portal, what's on the other side? We invited functional pharmacist and men's health coach Rob Kress to help us challenge the default settings of modern care...more meds, more noise, less self. Rob shares how he moved from conventional pharmacy to a practice that blends functional medicine, clinical nutrition, and mind‑body work, and why the real turning point for so many men is a regulated nervous system and the courage to tell the truth. We dig into the moments most men avoid. The numbness that follows chronic stress, the swing between agitation and apathy, and the quiet stories they keep buried deep. Rob offers simple, practical resets like two minutes to breathe before a hard talk, a short burst of movement to discharge stress, and five minutes of daily silence to build safety and presence. Thom Francis introduces us to poets Susan Kress and Will Nixon. Both of whom were finalists in the 2025 Stephen A. DiBiase Poetry Prize Contest. ——– The 2025 Stephen A. DiBiase Poetry Prize winners and finalists were recently announced with many poets from the Capital Region and Hudson Valley included in the list. The DiBiase contest was created in 2015 to offer a more inclusive and welcoming alternative to traditional poetry competitions. There are no entry fees, no line or page limits, and no restrictions on subject matter, form, publication history, or age, making it especially appealing to younger poets. Each year, approximately $2,500 in prize money is awarded, with $500 going to the first-place winner and the rest distributed among top finishers. Last week we heard from finalist Howard Kogan, who shared his poem, “Mourning Becomes Her.” This week we will hear from Hudson Valley Writers Guild members Susan Kress and Will Nixon. First up is Susan Kress. Her poem “Fire-Proof Box” was an Honorable Mention in this years contest. Before she reads her poem, she tells me more about the inspiration of the piece. Susan Kress was born and educated in England and now lives in Saratoga Springs, NY, having taught at Skidmore College for many years. Her poems appear in Nimrod International, The Southern Review, New Ohio Review, Salmagundi, New Letters, South Florida Poetry Journal, Valparaiso Poetry Review, Third Wednesday, Gyroscope Review, La Presa, and other journals. The next poet up to the mic is Will Nixon who will read his poem “Orpheum.” Will Nixon is the author of the poetry collections, “My Late Mother as a Ruffed Grouse” and “Love in the City of Grudges.” With Michael Perkins he is the co-author of “Walking Woodstock: Journeys into the Wild Heart of America's Most Famous Small Town.” He has also written “The Pocket Guide to Woodstock.” He now lives in Kingston, NY. For more information on the 2026 Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Prize and to read the poems from previous winners, finalists, and honorable mentions, go to https://dibiasepoetry.com.

Eric's guest today is Larry from the Side Hustle Podcast. The main topic of conversation is Larry's experience attending the EQUIP Exposition, initially for equipment viewing, which unexpectedly led to a complete transformation of his business model—starting with raising prices, moving to better employee treatment, and adopting software like Jobber to streamline operations and payment collection. Both Eric and Larry emphasize the profound value of networking and socializing at these events, often citing specific learning opportunities that occurred outside of formal sessions, like at the bar. Larry also shares his strong positive opinion of battery-powered Kress equipment, despite initial employee resistance, highlighting the benefits of adopting new technology. Key Takeaways: Be courageous and implement steep rate increases for your services, followed by automated annual price adjustments. Adopt intuitive software to charge customers automatically upon job completion and instantly improve cash flow and eliminate outstanding debt. Prioritize socializing and networking at industry events because invaluable business insights often come from casual conversations. Eliminate the bottleneck of slow service by ensuring fast response times and quick quoting to capture new customers immediately. Make attending professional conferences a principled commitment because even a single piece of knowledge gained can radically improve your business.
We're back at Equip Expo, and today's guest is none other than Todd Zimmerman from Kress — and let's just say, he didn't come empty-handed. Todd sat down with us to talk about the next chapter of Kress innovation, what's driving the brand's explosive momentum, and why this year's reveal could change the game for pros everywhere. We can't say much here… you'll have to listen to find out what the buzz is all about.
Eric has a conversation with Todd Zimmerman discussing Kress, a company focused on electrification and robotization in the landscaping industry, particularly through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Kress offers two main product lines: professional-grade 60-volt battery-powered tools for commercial landscapers and a pro-grade homeowner line, both utilizing advanced battery technology for power and cost savings. The core of the discussion centers on their autonomous robotic mowers, including the homeowner-focused iPilot and the commercial-grade Voyager, which use a combination of RTK, stereo camera, and VSLAM technology for precise, pattern-based mowing and obstacle avoidance. Zimmerman highlights how these robotic mowers can transform the least profitable part of a landscaper's business into the most profitable by drastically reducing operating costs associated with labor, gas, and maintenance, while also addressing friction points and labor shortages in the industry. Key Takeaways: Embrace artificial intelligence tools to potentially help save both time and money in personal and professional applications. Landscapers should transition from gas-powered equipment to cordless products to realize significant annual operational savings per employee. Consider utilizing autonomous robotic mowers, which use virtual boundaries and object recognition, to handle lawn care even on steep slopes up to 39 degrees. Commercial operators can leverage autonomous mowing technology to convert the typically least profitable aspect of their business into the most profitable. Utilize management views and productivity reports in commercial apps to track crew efficiency, optimize travel routes, and accurately quote property jobs.
Recorded live from Pod-Row™ at Equip Expo 2025, John sits down with Don Gao to dive into the real-world financial impact of the Kress Voyager, the fully autonomous, all-electric ZTR that's redefining profitability in the green industry. They break down how eliminating fuel costs, labor expenses, and downtime can lead to serious savings and higher margins for lawn care operators ready to embrace the future. If you've been skeptical about electric or autonomous equipment, this episode will show you how the Kress Voyager isn't just innovative, it's a smart business decision that can put real dollars back in your pocket. What happens when our assumptions—about the future, about ourselves, about others, and even about God—keep us from stepping into the adventure He's inviting us to? Too often, the “what ifs” and the fear of change convince us to play it safe, assume the worst, or stay stuck where we are. But when you know the Lord is calling you forward and you choose to trust Him with the outcome, the unknown becomes an adventure filled with His presence and His promise: “I will be with you.”In this episode, Ben Johnson and his son Kress talk honestly about the lies and limits we wrestle with—too young, too old, not ready, not spiritual enough—and how God has a way of proving those assumptions wrong. Through their stories, you'll see how pushing past fear, embracing risk, and letting go of assumptions can lead to deeper growth, meaningful relationships, unexpected joy, and a true adventure with God. If you've ever felt paralyzed by the “what ifs,” this conversation will encourage you to trust God, take the step He's asking of you, and discover that with Him—you can!

When her van broke down in Crete, Anne Kress decided not to book a flight to get back home to Germany. Instead, she grabbed her 20-year-old mountain bike and camping gear, then pedalled 3,300km home through 11 countries.Listen if: You love spontaneous adventures, dream about bikepacking the Balkans, or want proof that bike adventures can start with small, imperfect gear. The story in a nutshell: Anne was midway through a climbing trip in Crete when her camper van broke down in the middle of nowhere.
